Patriots game was an obvious outlier. Darby has been playing lights out. They will pick up the pace on sacks. They were a consensus top 3 defense in every draft I saw this year. Not sure who disagrees but I'm guessing they will be wrong if they underrate this group.

Darby is leading the NFL in opposing QB rating. 2 ints, 0 TDs, less than 50% completion percentage against.

And he played against Brady at his very best.

According to PFF, Darby has been targeted 29 times and only allowed 13 catches (45%) for 147 yards with 27 YAC. 0 TDs, 2 INTs, 3 PDs, and a QB rating of 31.8 when thrown at.

There's only 2 CBs who have been targeted more, and 1 of them is Stephon Gilmore. He has allowed 17 catches on 33 targets (52%) for 231 yards with 1 TD, 0 INTs, and 4 PDs. Opposing QB rating of 84.3.

Rookie Marcus Peters is the other CB with more targets than Darby. He's allowed 17 catches on 31 targets (55%) for 199 yards with 4 TDs, 2 INTs, and 6 PDs. Opposing QB rating of 87.2.

lots of garbage time numbers against Miami as well. That hurts the bottom line, but they had em shutout for 3 quarters

They're resting Mccoy (assuming that's the case) b/c he's hurt. It has nothing to do with who they're playing.

Watching the Mia game did anyone else feel like the Mia D was keying on McCoy but not to fussed with Williams? I noticed it more in the 2nd half (McCoy was sparingly used) when McCoy touched the ball there were defenders all over him behind the line. When Williams got the ball not so many defenders around.

Any one else notice this or can refute this. Didnt see the whole game

Fans' conservative takes on injuries are always amusing. The implication is usually that the two choices are resting him for a week and getting 100% for the rest of the year, or keep playing getting 70% for the rest of the year with a higher risk of re-injury. Obviously that'd be a slam dunk and it's not that simple.

Pats defense is far from middling this year...dont let garbage time fool you. I believe the pats are tied for league lead in picks...they have shifted from a coverage defense (revis, browner) to a d line defense.. i believe 25% of their roster headcount is front 7...and they keep adding more via trades.

The outlier performance on offense is via quick not fast receivers running option routes. Guys like galloway, wayne, cadet and ocho cinqo looked at the route trees and said ummm, yeah, no. Welker, woodhead, edelman, amendola, etc. Dont be surprised if sproles gets to new england eventually.

Nobody is sorting by yards against. Pittsburgh running up & down the field in the 1st half wasn't garbage time and nobody cares about Jacksonville. What is far from middling - top 10?

I'm mostly worried about coming off 3 emotional games in a row, and Sammy being out.

Just because the Giants could be 3-0 doesn't mean they're good. Lost in the Eli clock debacle in Dallas was that they did nothing in that game and the only reason they were ever in the driver seat was the Cowboys kept killing themselves. Atlanta is never good on the road even when they're good so that's not impressive to me either.

I was there. The worst part is the temp hovered right around freezing. So you had freezing rain in the first half, then almost as a mercy, the temp dropped like 2 degrees and it turned to snow.

I was sick as hell for a week after that game.

The game began with a pelting rain and winds gusting at more than 30 miles per hour, and ended with flurries and wind gusts above 50. The conditions contributed to the teams committing four turnovers each and not mounting much of a passing attack.

Good thing the Giants had a plan to run the ball, something they were criticized for failing to do in a 22-10 loss to the Redskins last week. They rushed for 291 yards, their most since they had 351 on Nov. 29, 1959, against Washington.

Jacobs' two scores, including a powerful 43-yard run, rallied the Giants from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit. And when he left the game with a sprained left ankle in the fourth quarter, New York kept running the ball, with backup Ahmad Bradshaw scoring an 88-yard touchdown that put the Giants up 31-21 with 6:12 left.

New York's defense did the rest as Kawika Mitchell intercepted Trent Edwards and returned it 20 yards for the go-ahead score early in the fourth quarter. Corey Webster then sealed the victory by scoring on a 34-yard interception return 22 seconds after Bradshaw's touchdown.

Being at home should help. This is one of those games against a solid-yet-unspectacular team that a playoff team should beat. Not to say that the season's over if they lose, but it's not a game they should lose.

I like the swagger and confidence around town, Rex has really turned things around, but I'm a lot more comfortable with swagger if this team is like 9-4 and in the wildcard drivers seat than at 2-1.

Meh. They won't be able to run against the Bills. Cruz is hurt. They have no other real receivers the Bills can't cover one-on-one. So double ODB with Gilmore and safety help, let him get his 8 catches for 100 and a score, and Bills win the game.

Word is McCoy is out "indefinitely" now with the hamstring. Apparently he did something Thursday to tweak it.

I hope he just sits for a few weeks and lets it totally heal. That's what he's saying he's going to do, so let's hope he sticks to it and Karlos handles the load.

Penalties are a big part of a defense's success. You can't expect to shut another team down when you keep giving them free first downs.

Also, Buffalo's run defense has been suspect far too often as well. That severely impedes the team's pass rush.

I hear ya. Don't wanna hear "offense didn't help" when most of the $ is tied up in the D. That's the same nyg offense that couldn't do much of anything vs the Cowboys pedestrian D. So frustrating losing home game to a mediocre team. Gotta run the table thru the bye week now.

Bills gave up way too much yardage on the ground and the lack of discipline is a joke at this point. You simply have to bench guys who manage to rack up multiple personal fouls. The lack of urgency at the end of the game was headacratching as well.

At the same time, I'm tired of the crappy officiating. Two TDs were wiped out on some very questionable calls. And 2 roughing the passer penalties against the Giants were picked up that absolutely were personal fouls. And that certainly looked like a late hit out of bounds on that last drive. The picked up roughing the passer calls and totally bogus chopblock call were especially egregious though

Not many positive takeaways from the game today, but I will say that Ronald Darby looked very solid again today. He was matched up against OBJ repeatedly and OBJ was invisible for virtually the entire game. Still too early to make the call, but he looks like a player.

Four times on third down the Bills completed a pass shorter than what they needed. Once on 4th at the goalline.

I just do not get these play calls. I am sure those were not the preferred option on moat, but how can you be running routes short of the marker?

Run up the middle on first down in the first half had me checking of Marrone was back on the sidelines.....surprise...passing on first in the second half and they can move the ball!

I'm seeing a lot of "woe is me" about the defense and I'm not sure it's justified. Penalties are an issue, for sure. The Giants had 303 yards of offense and converted 3/15 on third down. Eli got rid of the ball quickly and efficiently, negating the Bills pass rush, but it's not like he absolutely lit them up all day. The Giants put together one very nice drive (10 plays, 76 yards to go up 16-3 in the 2nd quarter), got the benefit of some abysmal Bills tackling on the Rashad Jennings 51-yard TD, and their other TD drive was a drive start at the Bills 32 after an INT.

Frankly, the offense let the team down yesterday. Bills first half drives:

3-and-out - punt

5 plays, 15 yards - FG (1 first down)

6 plays, 21 yards - punt (1 first down)

That's just an incredibly poor half of offensive football.

Exactly, conservative play calling in the first half, slamming Karlos into right guard over and over. Tyrod was doing well throwing those intermediate balls in the second half and wasn't called in the first half.

Seeing Cyris at LT was scary when Glenn was out most of the first half. Was surprised they didn't flop Henderson to LT.

Back to the drawing board. Rex's comments were more aimed at his players having their backs in the media but I would have chosen some different words.

The AFC is a down conference. Go beat the Titans on the road and hopefully the front four actually gets some pressure and go 3-1 in the AFC conference record.

Bills are going to have to make some adjustments on defense. Eli averaged 1.7 seconds to throw. That's insanely quick. Brady was an absurd 1.9. Good QBs will neutralize the pass rush by just getting rid of the ball incredibly fast. Rex is going to have to have his guys play much much more bump and run against QBs like that.

I still think the penalties were by far the biggest problem. They pretty well neutralized the Giants on offense, but all the penalties made a huge difference field position-wise. Not to mention wiped 2 TDs off the board.

PFF has Cordy Glenn ranked as the #1 LT this week; he didn't allow a single pressure on Tyrod. PFF also highly complimentary of Darby and Gilmore:

– One of the most surprising performers of the season is undoubtedly rookie second-rounder Ronald Darby. The former Florida State product is now second in coverage grade amongst corners, allowing a QB rating of just 31.2. Against the Giants Darby (+3.3) allowed just two of seven targets to be complete for six yards with a pair of pass deflections. Against Odell Beckham specifically he allowed just one catch on four targets for eight yards and a pass deflection.

While Darby was outstanding, Stephon Gilmore (+2.3) also played an excellent game. He allowed four of ten targets to be complete for 49 yards, one touchdown, an interception and a pass defense. He also won his matchup against OBJ, allowing just two of six targets to be complete for eight yards. Gilmore has all the talent but he’s never been able to put it together consistently — could this be the year?

I seriously don't understand how he went from awful in the preseason to total stud for the first four weeks of this season. I know he was on an island and everything, but he's been absolutely blanketing guys -- not sure how he got lit up so badly earlier. Regardless, I'm happy.
