2021 Buffalo Bills - Same as it ever was*** (3 Viewers)

Bills drive starts: BUF 20, BUF 11, BUF 20, BUF 13, BUF 20, BUF 14, BUF 14, BUF 20, BUF 20, BUF 4

Bengals drive starts: CIN 49, BUF 49, BUF 45, CIN 45, BUF 36, CIN 35, CIN 10, CIN 22, CIN 34, CIN 27, BUF 46
Our offense had a lot to do with this thanks to all the three-and-outs, but our ST is just atrocious right now. Our inability to flip the field at all yesterday was a disadvantage that will get almost any team beaten by almost anybody.
It's been like this all year.

Schmidt has been out-kicking the coverage and has been solid but Pac Man had so much room. Carpenter was terrible on kickoff's too.

That's me to the left.

I run @pintotailgate for Kenny on twitter.

We tweeted them asking if they want the real reason behind ketchup we'd gladly tell him. We had one of the guys special needs son' squirt him with mustard and the 2,000+ fans that gather were cheering him on. Only bad pub we get.

Deadspin made it seem like Kenny is a drunk who gets ketchup all over him for no reason.
why is there a guy wearing Giants gear in that pic?

We are cool with all opposing fans that come by, Normally every game, that teams "super fans" come by and eat and drink. We get the same treatment when we go to road games. We always tailgate with that teams "Super Fan" their version of Pinto Ron (Kenny) - Detroit is my favorite - the Hot-Tub guy Ron Crackman always the best food and fun tailgate.

but the Bills were playing the Bengals this week. Is this an old photo?

this team can still pull it together. a win in London over Jacksonville and they will be 4-3 headed into the bye.

but there's a lot to worry about right now. I'm most concerned about the penalties they keep taking, and the fact the defensive line is just playing up to the way they are capable of. I'm sure coaching is part of that problem, but they really need to figure things out and make some changes if they want to save the season.

so frustrating that Sammy can't stay healthy either.
Penalties, no pass rush and injuries. That pretty much sums up the season. Oh, and horrible ST play. I mean, I know WR is in a bad position right now due to injuries, but Marcus Thigpen was a decent returner and his replacement has now TWICE fair caught the ball inside the Bills own 5 yard line.

The ST and pass rush seem like they should be fixable. But I don't think the other two are. Tyrod should be back soon and hopefully Lesean can stay healthy, but Sammy will likely be out for a while, Kyle is likely done for the year IMO and Aaron Williams being hurt is killing the secondary. The Bills may have one of the most talented WR groups in the league, unfortunately they're also the most fragile. It's like Sammy, Harvin and Goodwin all have brittle bone disease.

And this team seems to have no self control and a coach that seems to refuse to punish them for a lack of self control. And at this point, it's pretty clear that refs are going to be quick to whistle the Bills for anything and everything. They're not going to get a single benefit of the doubt from here on out. So I expect all the penalties to continue.

reports said PCL sprain and likely to miss 3 or 4 weeks.

If I were Rex and the front office, I would have had serious difficulty not sending Ron Brooks to the locker room and releasing him immediately after the game after that taunting penalty. Send a message that the behavior won't be tolerated. Brooks is the 4th corner at best and McKelvin will hopefully be back soon. Brooks has a long reputation for this ####....I'm pretty sure he's had more big penalties than good plays for the Bills during his career.

Then again, that's probably why I'm not in the front office of an NFL team :oldunsure:

I mean, the Bills can't afford to even go near the line these days, but without the prior history I kind of doubt that would draw any attention. Maybe he said something that made it worse, but it was like a split second taunt at most.

Yeah, that was the Giants game. Deadspin at it's finest. We have that same exact pic with a Bengals fan in the background and that burger pic gets taken every week. 346 straight game's Ken's gone to.

I agree, from the stands even before the flag was thrown, I was calling him an idiot. Congrats you made a special teams tackle, they were still getting good field position out of it. No need to jaw at a guy two inches from his face, when your team is got a bullseye on its back.

I actually felt bad for the D at halftime as they were put in ridiculous spots on 100% of possessions.

But I mean you give up 90 & 78yd TD drives to start the 2nd half...maybe that bad field position was the only reason the Bengals didn't rack up more yards (though Rex still found a way to boast about holding them 'under their average').

I have no issue with that particular call when Brooks stands over & T-bags the guy like Pippen after dunking on Ewing.

Granted it's a little frustrating watching all of Edelman's antics & Brady's whining a few hours later knowing there's a 0.0% chance they will ever get flagged for unsportsmanlike.

Yes, it was weak. Just like the offsides call on Easley last week was week. But it says a lot about how we're viewed that we draw those flags.

Deadspin made it seem like Kenny is a drunk who gets ketchup all over him for no reason.
When in reality he is a drunk who only gets ketchup all over himself on special occasions?
He rarely drinks pre-game - He'll have a few in the game. He get's the ketchup and mustard every home game. He really only gets drunk on away games, He has too much to set up and do during home games with the food and alcohol he basically gives out to anyone.

The fact that this guy is sober for this isn't exactly a point in his favor.

I already told him, I'm right there with him for the day we have a home playoff game. (Insert multiple jokes here regarding playoff games) However I sure as hell will make sure I'm not sober.

What are we guessing early for this week?

Taylor 40% chance of playing?

Watkins 1%

Harvin 0.5%

Karlos Williams 10% flying in on Pegula-Jet?

Ketchup guy is amazing! Buffalo is by far my favorite place to tailgate!!!

Crazy. Tyrod and Watkins both ruled out for Sunday. Sounds like Tyrod had a setback.

And Harvin is reportedly considering retirement due to his hip injury.

Awesome.

The one fun thing is EJ going up against Marrone this week.

I'm debating starting him over Russell Wilson. Probably won't, because Wilson is vs. SF and SF's pass D is atrocious, but still...

Wouldn't surprise me if they lose this week. I thought the team was a touch overrated as is, but what a shame it'd be to see this team go down in flames with all of these injuries.

This is absolutely insane. When was the last time a team had to play without its starting QB and both starting WRs?

DAL is missing Romo and Dez, and I think are winless in their last three games.

I've been saying this for a few years now. The Bills seems to get a LOT of soft tissue injuries.

Although, it's not exactly a shock that Goodwin and Harvin are dealing with injuries. That's on Whaley and the front office.

What's most concerning to me is that injuries seem to drag on and on in Buffalo. Guys are either being rushed back too soon on a routine basis, or the training staff isn't doing what needs to be done to get them healthy in an appropriate amount of time

Bills should be a top 3 fantasy defense at worst this year.
Appreciate the insight from you and others. Your colleagues disagree. And while the NE game slants the metrics a little, they are 1st in rush yards allowed and 14th in points allowed, but nearly dead last in overall yards and passing yards. Do you see Darby, Williams, Graham, Gilmore, and the rest of the secondary stepping up as the guys up front have so far?
Patriots game was an obvious outlier. Darby has been playing lights out. They will pick up the pace on sacks. They were a consensus top 3 defense in every draft I saw this year. Not sure who disagrees but I'm guessing they will be wrong if they underrate this group.
Revisiting this -- Bills D is obviously nowhere near the solid fantasy D we hoped, and they are underwhelming in general, but they still have one of the (if not the) best corner-tandem in the league right now in Darby and Gilmore.

I do suspect a win this week -- even if this is more of a "home" game for the Jags, and with Kyle and Karlos Williams, Watkins, and potentially Tyrod out, Bills can let the front 4 loose on Bortles, and their secondary can still contain the Jags' WRs.

I suspect this, especially in the case of Shady, Sammy, and Tyrod.

Gut belief is it isn't the training staff as much as the coaches and GM so desperate to fulfill all their promises of FINALLY turning things around, that they panic and don't exercise the patience to let their players truly heal.

yeah, I don't know what to say anymore.

the players are frustrated with how they are being used. I assume things will improve, but we are 6 games in and they haven't really shown any signs of improving the pass rush yet.

shame that the pass rush is so lethargic given how awesome both corners are playing.

If at the end of the season everyone is praising the Jets for how they landed Bowles and laughing at the disaster Rex made of the Bills, I might cry. Physically cry. Tears. Unmanly, but real.

Greetings Bills fans - I have a question, just football really, the Saints just acquired TJ Graham, signed him. What was his deal in Buffalo and why did he never really emerge? He seems destined to replace Joe Morgan in NO and I always thought Graham had talent so I'm happy about the signing but obviously he has flaws.

Thanks, and good luck this season.

Well, he can't run any route other than the go route, he can't catch, and he's small. Other than that, he's fantastic!

He has value as a returner but he'll never make a NFL WR.

ETA: I think the Bills let him go because we had other players who were good returners but could also play their positions, like McKelvin (CB), etc.

Weak pass rush aside, I don't really have much of a problem with the D's performance. Turnovers are always hit-and-miss, so whenever I see a fantasy player lamenting the defense I roll my eyes a little. The defense was not good against New England and looked pretty average against Cincinnati, two top offenses. They beat the Colts and Dolphins soundly, basically single-handedly won the game against Tennessee, and had one terrible play against the Giants (the Jennings TD) after keeping the team in the game all day. I'm not sure what more people expect.

WNY people -

Do we have to watch the game on yahoo, or is there a local broadcast? I don't see it listed anywhere on my DirectTV guide.

Nevermind. Everything east of Rochester has to watch it on the web.

Honestly? EFFE YOU NFL. This picture quality sucks and I have to watch it on my monitor?

Effe you and effe your stupid push into Europe.
