It really is all about next year. They have like $70M in dead money this year. Next year they'll be flush with cap space for years to come. Allen will have a year of development underhis belt. I'm ok with them being bad this year because I actually do think they've done the right thing mostly in tearing it down and loading for the future. 

ETA: Of course the effect of that is that or course I'm not excited about this year. It's absurd for me to be excited about a team that is clearly a band-aid team just getting through a transition year. Do I think that McDermott is a great motivator who will coach up guys and have them as ready as possible? Yes. Do I think there are some talented players and true professionals who will give all they have? Yes. Do I think that they will win some games that they're not supposed to? Yes. Do I think overall they'll be out matched and lose a bunch? Yes. I'll root for them, but it would be silly to be excited and have high expectations for the 2018 Bills.

This is looking like 2-14 material.  Allen is their best QB, but I don't want him starting behind this line.

For some reason, it feels appropriate to bump this. 

I completely agree with GroveDiesel that this is a lost year and we should all just look ahead to 2019.  I watched the whole game today and I'll pull for them throughout, but this isn't going to be a pretty season.

I should thank the Bills for freeing up my fall and winter for other things. No use wasting my time watching this team this year when it's clear it's a waste of a season.

What sucks is knowing next year will still be a building year. Yeah, they'll have a crap load of cap room, but with so many holes to fill, you can't do it all in one offseason.

Only things that matter this season are Allen's development and Edmund's development.

Oh, and I feel awful for Kyle Williams. Wish he had either retired or signed with someone else. He doesn't deserve this.

I feel bad for the players.  I can see a lot of them mailing it in for this season.  Le McCoy & others do not deserve this.

 
I don't want to over-react here, but I see little sense in watching another down of Bills football this year.  I'll see you guys in 2019.

 
Hey, just thought I'd throw this out there: Patrick Mahomes threw 4 TDs yesterday.

And Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 400+ yards, 4 TDs and ran for another one.

Man, I sure wish the Bills had had an opportunity to get a QB like one of those guys!

 
Think I picked a good time to move out to Oregon for a year.  

I was initially very pissed that I couldn’t watch yesterday’s game.

Fact: Josh Allen did not throw an INT in his first NFL pass. We will always have that to hang our hat on. :oldunsure:

 
So does Davis get to keep his guaranteed salary, or does he have to return a pro-rated portion of it?

He got a $1.5 million signing bonus in February, and another $2 million was guaranteed when he made the Week 1 roster.

If he does in fact retire, the Bills can go after any remaining guaranteed portion of his contract. The Bills have not typically done it when guys retired early, but I would expect them to do so in a case like this. 

 
To be fair, I can't blame anybody on this team for wanting to retire as soon as possible.  I'm pretty sure a couple of our offensive linemen are already retired and just haven't bothered to tell anybody yet.

 
Davis looked pretty washed anyway.  Not really much of a loss.  Makes the Bills look a little silly for letting EJ Gaines go, though.

 
Also, I would like it noted for the record that I will be in attendance at next week's game, which has opened with the Bills as 16.5 point dogs.  This is so ####### stupid.  The only saving grace is that Minnesotans are so nice that they'll compliment my son and me on how our lineman almost made that block and maybe next time they'll create a pocket.

This offensive line is terrible.  Absolutely terrible.  They are going to ruin Josh Allen. 

And I’m starting to second guess Beanne’s talent evaluation abilities.  I thought he was a genius with the safety duo last year.  But there’s been some really bad signings this year.  Davis obviously being the worst.  But McCarron, Murphy, Ivory, Star.  All questionable.

In fairness, he at least managed to turn McCarron into a draft pick.  But yeah, this year's signings look very poor collectively.

The only real defense for these signings is that they were mostly cheap, except for Star.  But yeah, I am getting real concerned that these guys can't evaluate talent.

 
I have no words to describe exactly what happened this afternoon.  How does a team that looks as abysmal as they did for the first two weeks come out looking like this today?

Gotta say, Allen looked pretty good out there.  Wasn't really forced to do too much, but he was damn near perfect throwing the ball and made a number of plays on the ground.  Surely he won't play like that every week, but there's a lot to look forward to based on today's performance.  I know the Vikings had an off day, but this was his first road start, in a hostile atmosphere against a genuine NFC contender, and he looked poised as can be.

Really, they only looked abysmal for the first 6 quarters.

The defense looked completely different over the last 6 quarters. Getting pressure on the QB and creating turnovers makes a HUGE difference.

And Allen was out there dropping dimes (while his receivers just were out there dropping passes). The run game still looked a little rough IMO and Groy is a disaster at center compared to Bodine it seems.

We'll see what next week holds. Should be an interesting matchup. GB has no running game to speak of, their O-line isn't very good and Rodgers will likely still be hobbled. Then again, he's Aaron freaking Rodgers. 

 
Lost in some of the discussion in the media is the fact that Tre White is an absolute monster. He's not filling the stat sheet, but that's because he has his receivers on such lockdown that QBs aren't even looking his way. The Bills are putting him on the other team's best receiver and he is shutting them down. Diggs had 4 catches for 17 yards this week. He's a top 5 corner already, and if the season keeps going the way it's going for him, he may have claim to being the top CB in the league.
