From some of Josh’s previous comments, I’d say there’s a decent chance he isn’t vaxxed. We’ll know pretty soon. Because there are so many more restrictions on players who aren’t vaccinated, it should be pretty easy for the media to figure out who is and isn’t. Though I guess it wouldn’t surprise me if the Bills put a media blackout on reporters being allowed to report on that.

Yeah, totally agree. Just hoping he comes to his senses (or already has). This is a major leadership moment. I can deal with Beasley not getting the shots and losing him, but to go through that with Josh might make me cry.

At this point the "Oh, this vaccine was super rushed; it might be dangerous; we don't know; I want to play it safe; how do I know there won't be side effects" argument is all but out of steam. Yeah it was rushed, but that's what happens when an unworldly amount of money backs a scientific movement. I hope he hops on board - and openly.

 
So, are the Bills the only team openly feuding/subtweeting arguments about the Covid vaccine?  That's pretty worrisome....where's the leadership here?

Yeah, if is definitely concerning. Diggs did reply to someone kind of ripping the guy saying that his tweet had nothing to do with Beasley or teammates and was only self-directed, but…

On one hand you have Diggs and Hughes making pretty strong pro-vax statements and Beasley and Feliciano going pretty hard the other way.

Though I’m not sure how even strong leadership solves this issue. People that are on the extreme end of this issue tend not to be very quiet about it in general. For the Bills organization, the one thing they have to be the most angry about is Beasley tweeting out that a vaccinated teammate tested positive and was sent home Monday. The Bills can not be happy that he leaked that info. I think that’s where Beasley may start losing the support of teammates as well. It’s one thing to be ranting about all of this stuff yourself, it’s quite another to start airing the business of teammates even if you’re not naming them.

I agree with this.  I'm not sure how go about handling it.

I just kinda feel like the Bills have teammates kinda half-sniping at each other on Twitter, and we've had little-to-no communication of late from the 3 people I'd consider to be the ultimate "leaders" of the organization, in McDermott, Allen, and Beane.  Just one of those "where there's smoke, there's fire" type things.  You can't see the fire but you can't help but wonder if it's there.  Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I mean, the Bickering Bills slumped and were knocked out in the divisional round of the playoffs.  I'd hate to see a very talented Bills team - the most talented team they've had since the mid-90s - hopelessly divided by something like this.  I hope it's a tight ship inside the organization right now, but I can't help but wonder if it's not.

Beasley is now directly going at Hughes.

I don’t think you’ll ever hear anything from Beane or McDermott directly about this stuff. They want to keep everything in-house. But they have to be losing their minds at this point.

I'm starting to have a hard time believing Beasley will be on this team in 2021. Like I said before, he's been great for this team, but they obviously have Diggs, a vet in Sanders, some nice young prospects at WR, and maybe Knox can learn to catch. I won't be upset at all if they let him go and free up some money to help with the 8 Brinks trucks inevitably headed to Allen's house.

Kinda see the wind blowing that way too. That said, I do think Sanders is every bit as good as Beasley is, and is more versatile. I wouldn't mind seeing Isaiah McKenzie get more slot snaps too.

It’s only two days of training camp, but sounds like Allen is fully in control and lighting it up. Everything I’ve read about how Jordan Palmer trains QBs has be super impressed and Allen sounds like a guy willing to do everything he can to be elite. I really do think he’s primed for another huge season. IMO, he has the ability to be the best player in the league.

I still can't believe nobody took a shot on him sooner than the end of the 3rd round...

For reference DK Metcalf's 3-con was 7.38-seconds. (Yes, I know he slipped, and that time is deceiving, but it was one of the most talked about 3-cones in recent years.)

 
As recently as a couple of weeks ago, I would have given Kumerow approximately a 0% chance to make our 53 man roster.  Now its starting to sound like he's going to be very difficult to cut.  That makes for a cool and awesome camp story, but it does imply Hodgins and Stevenson are probably outside looking in right now.  

Diggs, Sanders, Beasley, and Davis are all locks.  I think McKenzie was always heavily favored to make the team, and he's apparently had a very good camp so far, so I've got him pretty firmly down as our WR5.  Toss in Kumerow, and the question becomes how many WRs are really going to carry.

There’s no way they’re cutting Beasley IMO. I think overall he’s an above average receiver, but his value is that he does some things at an elite level. His ability to get open quickly and underneath is elite and that ability puts stress on a defense that other receivers simply can’t replicate. I think that’s why McKenzie’s spot is safe too (that and it sounds like he will be their returner as well). 

The Kumerow thing is pretty wild. I agree with AK that I never thought he’d make the team, especially with some of the praise Hodgins was getting in the off-season. But it sounds like he’s showing why Rodgers likes him so much.

One concern that still remains is TE. Hollister has been hurt so we don’t know what he brings to the table and Knox seems like he is pretty much exactly what he was last year so far. That’s a position that needed an upgrade and it doesn’t seem like it happened so far.

What’s been great is hearing some good things about Edmunds so far and lots of good things about Epenesa and the two rookie DL guys. Actually, add that Efe Obada dude to that list too. All those guys sound like they’re showing some pop and playmaking abilities. That would be huge.

Of course, some of that could be attributed to a lack of improvement on the OL. That could partially be due to Dawkins being out with Covid, but the depth at OT looks really weak and it’s a bad sign IMO that they’re still screwing around with where Ford slots in. If they haven’t locked down a spot for him at this point, it’s because he hasn’t shown that he’s clearly the best option at any particular spot. That’s bad because they definitely need to be better up the middle than they were last year. 

Haven’t heard a lot about the RB position either. That’s concerning too. May be another year of trying to ride the hot hand and getting mostly mediocre results. Hopefully both of the OL and RB failure to stand out is more from the nature of training camp, lack of pads, and trying to keep guys healthy than a sign of more of the same of last year.

 
6 year extension for #17.

Edit: Per Mortensen.  No details yet, but I'll bet he got more than the league minimum.

Edit 2: Per Schefter, it's 6 years, $258M, $150M guaranteed.  So yeah a little better than the league minimum.

Sounds like most of the new money starts in 2 years (when the new tv deal should be bringing in $$$$) but the signing bonus/guaranteed money may be starting at least some of it now. They had $10M left on the cap this year. Would be smart to work some of that money into this year and next year’s cap.

Kind of weird that the dude signed a $258M extension with the most guaranteed money ever and outside of this Bills thread there’s not a single post about it…

Yeah, I was starting to hear that a lot of it might be deferred until after next year, which would be absolutely awesome. It would give a lot more spending money next year.

Friday afternoon/evening toward the end of summer... Not a record overall contract by any stretch... More or less expected that a deal like this would get done soon, or next off-season... I kind of get that it's not getting a ton of hype amongst the fan community.

(NFLN was certainly all over it all afternoon, though.)

 
Bills putting out just about no starters tonight. Will be interesting to see if they hold a bunch of starters out for most of the preseason to avoid injuries.

 
So far Buffalo in this preseason game: Run run run run run run run run run run run.

Also, why doesn’t the NFLN show down and distance on the feed? So weird.

I think 2, and the Bills really want to work on the run game in the preseason. And may also want to see if Singletary’s work in the off-season has made any difference.

Definitely not #1. Moss is hurt, and I'm sure the Bills want to focus on the run in the preseason, since that is their weakness on O. That said, Motor looked pretty good overall.

 
Rousseau definitely looked good, and I'm getting optimistic about the D-line.  Between him, Basham, and Epenesa, that's a lot of potential upside coming on board all at once.  Last night gets a grain of salt because the preseason, but you can see the potential there.

Read some buzz on Dawson Knox, but was curious as to the homer’s perspective. Basically the buzz was that he’s worked with a hand-eye specialist this offseason. Also, supposedly every high powered offense had a viable TE even if said TE was only fantasy worthy from TDs (meager yardage totals). I know Knox was supposed to be a really high upside guy, but feels like make or break time with him.

I'm still holding out hope for that upside. He's definitely a very good athlete, and a well rounded player. Aside from minor gains in other areas, all he really needs is for his hands to improve. Between practice and that specialist it's definitely possible.

Basham started strong in the spring and first practice or two but has reportedly really struggled since, including last night. May be a guy like Epenesa that has to sit a lot year 1.

Guys who fans don’t talk as much about but who I think could be nice contributors are: Efe Obada, Justin Zimmer, and Andre Smith.

Zimmer has been nothing but solid since making the active roster last year. Great role player. Obada has been mentioned by beat writers quite a bit since signing and sounds like he’s becoming close to a lock to make the team. Smith was all over the place last night. The Bills have needed some LBer depth that can cover huge parts of the field and it seems like they may have that guy in Smith.

Obada’s story is incredible. Former Panther, which that pipeline to Buffalo and Beane/McDermott is well-established. I was a little surprised Carolina let Obada leave. 

 
As far as I understand, the US should announce this week whether to open the border for Canadians or extend the shutdown. Hard to see the logic in leaving it closed when Americans can now visit Canada. 
If it remains closed I am going to have to get a medical reason to drive over or fly from Toronto to Buffalo.

Has McDermott said anything about how the next couple preseason games will go, in terms of the starters. Just curious if we'll get a little taste, or have to wait until week 1 like some other teams have announced.

They’ve said nothing. Allen mentioned today he wasn’t sure if he was playing this week or not.

 
Whoa. Dion Dawkins was in the hospital for 4 days with Covid. At some points he wasn’t sure he was going to make it. He was just a few days away from the 2 week period after his 2nd shot to be considered fully vaccinated when he was diagnosed.

So between Sweeney and Dawkins, the Bills have had 2 guys get hit really hard with Covid. Wonder if that has impacted any of the guys on the team who were previously hesitant to get the vaccine?

Hope so. Pretty sure Dawkins is one of the most respected guys in the locker room, too.
