2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (3 Viewers)

Does anybody know why Army moved from an opening line of -2 1/2 to -6 1/2 vs Missouri?  We all know the service academies do quite well in Bowls ATS, but that would've been in the opening line already, for the most part.

Does Mizzou have a bunch of guys in the protocol or something?  Did some declare or whatever?  What gives?

Thanks!

Just watching the bowl on now, I believe they said Mizzou’s top-2 quarterbacks are out and some true freshman is playing.

I’ve had a lot of rum and egg nog though so you should verify. 🥴

They announced today that the program made the decision not to play their best player, RB Tyler Sadie. Supposedly he wanted to play but Mizzou/Drinkwitz pushed him to sit. He has 268 carries this year so it makes sense. They are also starting a redshirt freshman at QB who has essentially no experience.

I love Army even at that inflated line, Mizzou cannot stop the run at all. Now that I’ve said that - you should all bet Mizzou.

I bet Army -3 and -3.5 quite heavily.  Mizzou ML is definitely the play.

God I love egg nog for some reason, going to get some now.

And a Mizzou friend just sent this after I texted him:

"Yes, they are not playing six starters including our stud RB"

Thanks.  Yeah, so this line looks like it will go to 7 as the public/squares line up to bet the only thing on the slate tomorrow night.

That's why I am asking tonight, while 6 1/2 can still be had.

Wow, great line, nice work.  Yeah, Missouri seemed like a decent "pick" as a school for protocols to hit.  And against a service academy???

I started a thread about this exact type of scenario, yet I missed this matchup.  Should've seen this one coming a mile away.

Military schools are 37-14 ATS in bowls since 1980, per my close personal friend Marc Lawrence.

I bet it at the open, and then again right after it moved to 3.5.  But I am having VERY mixed results in the bowls so not confident.

If you like the military schools trend, I believe you can still get Air Force +2.  Much prefer the Academies as dogs, and not vs SEC teams.  :bag:

Funny you bring it up, I went straight to Air Force after talking about this stuff.  AF opened at -1, Louisville is now -1 1/2.  I'll be betting Air Force in the morning.

The biggest move of all Bowl games is Nevada, who opened as a 6 1/2 point favorite.  They are now 7 point DOGS.  Carson Strong must be sitting out for draft purposes.  Their HC, some staff, along with players as well, have jettisoned to Colorado State.  Man how times have changed.

I don't know that I've ever seen a 14 point swing like that.  I may actually take Nevada over Western Michigan at this point.

Total dropped almost 10 points as well (65 to 56ish).  There are middles everywhere if you got in early on many of these.

Yeah Strong is sitting, and apparently their VERY good wr 1 as well as te 1.  Coach gone.  You do you, but I can't bet a depleted Nevada team that SEEMS to have no interest in this game, going to Detroit to play what will essentially be a WMU home game. It's WMU -7 or nothing for me.

wow

@RossDellenger: Because of a COVID outbreak, Texas A&M is unable to play in the Gator Bowl, sources tell @SINow. Aggies don’t have enough available players.

Gator is searching for a replacement bowl team, sources say, but the only way that's possible is if another bowl is impacted.

I am sure the Texas AM fans will be handling this calmly and rationally.

All sorts of whacky rumors out there now including using a team that's already played.
A Bowl Gauntlet would be pretty cool. Go through Wake Forest, then whoever won the Pac-12, the SEC runner-up (miniboss) and then the SEC Champ (big boss). If you win all those, you get the Legend Sword, save the princess, and get a top 10 preseason ranking next year.

I mean, there’s a team right there in Jacksonville that could give Wake a good game.
:bye:  Trevor Lawrence, you wanna play against college kids one more time?

Waiting for them to offer it to SCState for beating Jackson State. You know they'd want to play.
That would be cool, too.

The reason I said Navy - even thought they didn't earn it by record - was because:

1. There are several thousand active duty personnel within driving distance.

2. Their are probably several million Retired living within driving distance.

3. The Middies will go anywhere their Command tells them to

I mean, if you want to put fannies in the seats.

Putting a lower division team in would be outside of the box, though, and I kinda like that.

Yes, they would have a home field advantage. Between NAS JAX and Maryport this is definitely a Navy town.

I know it's not going to happen, but would be hilarious if they had to give up their spot to Texas.  Texas was 5-7 with the possibility of going to a bowl if there wasn't enough eligible teams due to their APR.

A&M fans would have a stroke.

Rutgers was offered the spot in the Gator Bowl but had to decline as all the players have been home for a week and no one has practiced for almost a month.

Pete Thamel says now Rutgers has interest. Meanwhile, Brett McMurphy is reporting that Shad Khan is angling to get his alma mater of Illinois in the game.

Only if we can insist on Urban Meyer needing to coach the team one last time. I like my bowl games with drama.

And we're back baby! Gator Bowl here we come.

Well deserved after the bull#### of getting passed over for this bowl initially.

What about  the legend of the 12th Man? They’ve been here before right?

Seattle Seahawks on the phone, “now about those 12th man trade mark rights”.

For those wondering the Frisco Football Classic (not the Frisco Bowl) being played today has a history that spans weeks. Created first week in December 2021. Why do we need this game? (hint: it should be called the Participation Trophy Bowl)

from Brett McMurphy-

The NCAA has added another bowl game in Texas to allow all current bowl-eligible teams a chance to play in the postseason, sources told The Action Network.

With the bowl game added, it guarantees a bowl for all 84 teams that won at least six games. Without the additional game, two of the following six-win teams would not have played in a bowl game: Ball State, Hawaii, Miami (Ohio), North Texas, ODU or Wyoming.

Awesome night, you could see it coming going into half.  That first, grinding drive when they got the ball in the third, was a thing of beauty.

Speaking of which, AIR FORCE is on deck (vs Louisville, who took early money).

Give me the Falcons.

I was being tongue in cheek there....since I called my shot that my -3 was going to end up being a bad number.  Grrr....

Tom, what can you tell me about Penn States Jahan Dotson, WR? I saw a mock where he goes late first round to my team. TIA.
CBS Sports had this to say about him:

“Dotson has been electric this season for the Nittany Lions, and he threatens the defense at all three levels. He's not going to break a lot of tackles, but that assumes defenders are able to get their hands on him; he's as fast as he is elusive, and a legit home run threat every time he touches the ball.”

He balled out for us all year long. He will definitely upgrade the Lions WR corp. To me, he’s a straight stud.

Didn't someone on here advocate taking Central Florida tonight vs Flo-rida?  I seem the remember that.  Would like to get in at 7, if so, seems like it could drop by the end of the day.  Muy gracias!
