2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

Stoops is going to try and run it up on Oregon so bad. That onside kick game will never be forgotten, you ask any OU fan under 40 about worst losses and that comes up every time.

Alabama 41- Cinci-17

Bama could put up 60 but think Saban will save some plays. This one is a no doubter.

Question?  How was Auburn on the verge of shutting out Alabama??

Georgia 24- Michigan 20

Going to be a hard hitting game but Michigan will have to throw the ball more than they want to. Then again Georgia`s QB looked shakey against Bama.  Still think UG pulls out a close one but would not be shocked if Michigan wins.  Love Michigans helmets though.

The woman who was at the center of the Riley affair speculation has taken a job at USC, and her husband (currently a coach at Tulsa) is going with them.

So the two facts were: Riley left unexpectedly, and she stopped tweeting. From there it turned into this ridiculous story, none of which is true. Feel bad for all involved there, just the internet at its worst.

Now that we've got Venables and maybe Lebby in the can, I truly am very happy for Lincoln Riley and OU. There was an article in the LA Times over the weekend that was great. He's a really private guy, doesn't like the limelight, and oddly enough it's much easier to do that in LA compared to Norman, where you are basically king of the town.

Ultimately this worked out well for everyone. Venables will stabilize the '22 class, hopefully convince Williams to stay, and get cracking on '23. Venables with a great OC is a better fit for the SEC anyhow. This is a win-win for everyone I think.

Is Oregon going to hire Matt Campbell? Surprised he is still at Iowa State. Seems like a really good coach.
You know he'd be absolutely perfect to follow a guy like Cristobal. It's actually not a terrible spot to be in, replacing a guy who could recruit with the best of them but not actually coach. Stoops won a national title with John Blake's players in 2000, I wouldn't be surprised if Oregon is better next year with an Xs and Os guy. If Campbell doesn't recruit well they'd start to fall off quickly, but I think he can do that as well. I don't think they can get him, but if they can that'd be excellent for them.

Miami coach fired. Cristobal meeting with Oregon players this morning. He gone!
So long as he takes his 'brand' of football with him, I'm all for it.  For all this great recruiting, it sure hasn't been sexy to watch on the field.

Have to think the next guy will have Oregon ties....Wilcox or Petersen if they can talk him out of retirement.  He's only 57 and the president of Oregon loves him.

Then Cinci would be #3 and Georgia would be #4 and the matchups would be the same. The chair is full of crap when he says they never considered matchups.
💯 This is fine when March Madness moves a 9 seed to a 10 in order to set up a compelling first (or potential 2nd) round match-up, but most of what the football committee says is insulting to fans with any level of critical thought.

Also, the four team tourney is beyond stupid and should be taken out back and put out if it's misery already.

What's Campbell holding out for? If Harbaugh hadn't made it this year, there'd be a lot of momentum for him to get the MI job, I reckon. But is he just waiting for a midwest or east job?

The main answers for not just AU but also LSU and some earlier games…

1. Playcalling - BOB just wouldn’t put the best player on the field in the best position…we finally saw Tempo and empty backfields on Sat.

2. OL play - did some personnel shuffling on Sat and it paid off.

3. Jameson Williams was ejected for targeting in the first half vs AU.

Yep.  Word is he knew he was going for the last month.  Explains a lot as he didn't have his head straight and got boat raced by Utah twice.  Great recruiter but not a good game coach.

What are you hearing?  Any chance they could pull Kalani Sitaki?  He would lure all the best Polynesians to Eugene with Nike money and no need to commit to Mormonism....

I have seen his name listed.  People just throwing out names like Campbell, Joe Brady, Arranda, Kiffen, Peterson, DC at Georgia.  Wilcox would love to come back to Oregon but honestly he or Chip would not excite me.

Ty Thompson posted something indicating things will be fine so hopefully we have an offense that throws the ball down field.

If you can't beat him, hire him?  Would love to try to woo Whittingham from Utah.  Not sexy, just a hell of a coach.

great coach, just too old and will retire soon

Is he?  Good point about Iowa, that's true.

Guy can recruit, but he makes Cristobal look like Bear Bryant in game.  Comes up small so many times.

ETA: I think USC should go to Matt Rhule and FORCE him to say no to a huge offer.  I think Rhule's bound to be back in college before too long.  Hell, maybe THAT is what good ol' UPS should do.

Yeah, I get that.  I'm an idiot anyway.  Do what I said SC should do: go make Rhule an offer he can't refuse.  Don't get back on the plane without him.

Notre Dame released its 2022 schedule today and it won’t be easy on Freeman.

Marquee games at Ohio State (Day), vs Clemson (Dabo), and at USC (Riley) is definitely not an easy way to begin a head coaching career.

Why would Oregon be publishing anything?  Word is their is a ton of interest in the job including Kiffin.
Not saying they'd publish it. But this stuff usually leaks if there's something to leak. The fact that there isn't seems to suggest they're not close to getting anyone yet. Which, again, seems like probably not the best news.

Insider just stated he expects Oregon to interview several candidates the next few days and hire someone by the end of the week.

Lane County?

Thanks for the link. I'd be surprised if Oregon hires another guy that will likely bail on them relatively soon. But who knows? The longer they wait, though, the more they risk losing current players and recruits.

Agree that Kiffin would likely bolt after 3-5 years but Oregon sees the loaded young roster as a team that could win a title in the next three years so they would love a guy like Lane who could jolt the offense.

Oklahoma losing Riley was hard,  but after getting upgraded by the hiring of Venables and possibly Lebby...Sooners Fans are pretty happy atm. Need a DC.  Guess OU hired Jerry Schmidt again for strength and conditioning or "Director of Sports Performance"

Big crootin news late last night. Gators 4* QB Chris Evers reopened his recruiting after meeting with Napier. Rumors are: a) Napier backed off a Mullen promise that UF wouldn't sign any other QB this class. b) Gators are eyeing 5* LSU QB Walker Howard. ULL gave Howard his first offer back in May.

Twitter seems to be implying other players recommitted but haven’t seen anything official. You?

Napier lost a couple kids but this is the biggest name.

But, yes, most of them have stayed. Mullen left them with a small class that Napier and his assistants quickly contacted.  Biggest name staying might be Chris McLlellan, a 4* DT from Oklahoma.

He also has been prioritizing the OL trying to make a couple late offers including 4* Oregon Commit Cam Williams.

Oh...there's this too from last week

@delatorre: Was told upwards of 29 new staff will be added. An army indeed. https://twitter.com/cjransonet/status/1467929907871297537

40th ranked right now. Will be interesting how far he can get them up.

It's about time ND played a real schedule.  :pokey:    :stirspot: ;)

Hiring Lane Kiffin would be a bad decision for Oregon.  I understand why some schools need that jolt of recruits, quick strike offensive scheme, etc but Oregon doesn't need to take a risk like him to be successful.

After Mario Christobal I do understand the desire to go with an aggressive HC though.  Watching that dude be so conservative with Oregon's talent was painful at times.

Reading the names provided here by some FBG...Rhule would be ideal, but I'm not sure he's really available.  Fickle would be a good hire, but he's not leaving Cincinnati before the game with Bama.  He'd be a great hire if the program is willing to wait / he's interested.  Would Joe Brady have enough appeal?

Agreed.  The Domer's schedule is a gauntlet next season.  If Freeman can get through with under 3 losses, that would be a really, really good sign for him as a head coach.  It would also help him with that first true ND recruiting class of his at this time next year...which may be the biggest indicator of his long-term prospects in South Bend.

No

NSD (early) should be interesting finally with the coaching moves.

SoCal especially. Domani Jackson the big one that USC is at the top for, but plenty of others like Bosco’s Earnest Greene, down to USC vs mostly SEC. Saban was in SoCal early this week.
