2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

Thankfully, I have the University of Kentucky Wildcats to cheer on in the face of the Vanderbilt football vacuum.

So is Clemson out of the NC picture or is this one of those "close loss to a semi-good team so we have to include them in the conversation"  situations?  I don't see another good win on their schedule...
If they win out they would likely be in but they don’t look good…at all. Most of the ACC super sucks, but I wonder if this is the year somebody like NC State could get them.

I’ve completely digested the day and specially the OU/Tulane game.

In the second quarter Sooners played like the #2 team, typical first, gross 3rd and 4th.

I get being up 37-14 at half is tempting to skate, but this is a trend with Lincoln Riley teams. There are quarters and halves this program looks among the best in the country, then they get blown out at Houston, go to OT with Army, and lose to Kansas State way too often.

Poor halftime adjustments is my only problem with Riley, pretty sure he knows more about football than me.

I just looked at their schedule and they don't play another ranked team the rest of the season. I mean, obviously that can change and they will have the ACC Championship game. But this was their one big game.

So much can happen but if Bama/UGA dont lose before the SECG...OU, Ohio St, Oregon/USC and ND will all be fighting Clemson for 2 spots.

It’s definitely a cake schedule but this doesn’t appear to be a similar Clemson team to the last 5 years on offense. Their D looks awesome, but they can be tripped up.

I started this on another thread, but I'm going to go ahead & give out my Top 20 for this year.  Remember, championship and bowl games not included in regular-season record.

3. Georgia (12-0)

4. Clemson (11-1; only loss is to Georgia)

5. Oklahoma (12-0)

6. Cincinnati (12-0)

7. Iowa State (11-1; only loss is to Oklahoma)

8. Wisconsin (12-0)

9. USC (12-0)

10. Texas A&M (11-1; only loss is to Alabama)

11. Notre Dame (10-2; losses to Wisconsin & Cincinnati)

12. Washington (12-0)

Update

Add in a potentially undefeated Cincinnati with their OOC schedule (although Indiana looking bad would hurt that). They won't get in - because $$$ - but they'll be another they'd have to be argued over.

UCLA could easily beat USC and the Pac12 North looks weak.

UCLA has a shot here.  Would help UCLA's cause if LSU can turn some things around.

They will beat up on the weaker teams of the ACC and OOC soft teams, but that offensive line is a glaring weakness that will be exploited by any playoff team they might face if they made the playoffs.

I don't think they'll reach the playoff even if they finish undefeated in the conference, unless they blow out everyone including the ACC title game.  But I don't see that, not this year.  Not with that Oline.

OU didn't exactly set the world on fire yesterday.  Maybe this year the pac12 gets to be the Bama warm up game.

Which team? Oregon is going to get body slammed next week. Washington is already out. USC or UCLA? I doubt it but I guess anything can happen.

I’m not going to hold yesterday against anyone major as it’s always a struggle for big program coaches to get teams ready for the opener (outside of Saban)...but who’s really likely to turn it on over the next weeks?

OSU and Oklahoma are likely...Agree Clemson looks iffy, Oregon unlikely goes to OSU and has a tough road schedule this year...who knows with the rest of the P12...

you were also wrong about your Bruins...perhaps you are wrong again?
I’d love to be wrong. I’d love it if UCLA runs the table (which is the only way they’d be in contention for the playoffs.) But since that hasn’t happened since 1954, it seems awfully unlikely.

@MBakerTBTimes: Here's one for you: Jammie Robinson was ejected from the second half of his last game at South Carolina...so he must sit out the first half tonight at his new school, #FSU

They need to stop saying Kelly is getting close to Rockne. They vacated all wins in 2012 and 2013. Not one Notre Dame person considers Kelly's wins coming close to Rockne. They'd force his ### out if he were really that close. They did it to Holtz years ago.

Stupid homer call on the punter penalty. That was roughing and now ND’s defense is gonna make this too close again.

Tesetore said catastrophic knee injury 4 times in 30 seconds

Eta: don't get me wrong it's an awesome story

Pretty darn crafty to put in a throwing QB after the one just had a big run down the field. Has to really mess with the defense.
