2021 College football thread - Auburn’s gotta Auburn. (1 Viewer)

How about everyone else?  Entire michigan stadium aside from husky portion looked like they were wearing maize.   Thats got to be easily 50k non-student fans.
They promote the ‘maize out’ leading up and fans commit to wear any apparel/headwear in that color. Some schools direct you to wear team or secondary color based on your seat...striping the stadium.

This was Texas' most lopsided loss since 2016 (TCU, 31-9)

Steve Sarkisian has more 17+ point losses as the Texas head coach than Tom Herman did.

Arkansas has now won five of their last seven games against Texas.

For the first time since 2015, Arkansas has won consecutive games by 17+ points.

Last year, Arkansas had two wins by double-digits. They've equaled that mark so far in 2021.

Arkansas rushed for 300+ yards for the first time since 2016 (vs. Ole Miss).

Likewise, this was the first time since 2016 that Texas allowed 300+ rushing yards in a game (vs. TCU)

First time Arkansas scored 40+ points vs. a ranked team (in regulation) since 2011.

First 2-0 start for Arkansas in the last five years.

Despite being ranked in the top 15 for some unknown reason, Texas continues to not be back.

Stetson Bennett IV completed three passes today that were each at least as many yards as Texas' starting quarterback threw for.

@MattBrownCFB: That’s Florida State’s first loss to a team that’s not currently in the FBS since 1959 against William & Mary

@KegsnEggs: Every fan base who watched their team look like #### today - and man, there were a few - just watched that FSU ending and thought about how much worse it could be. On a day filled with bad losses, that is a Picasso.

Norvell is 2-8 now. Willie was on his way to being fired when he started 4-6 or something. I guess he might get a pass with covid coming into the year but not after tonight. Everything about that game screamed horrible coaching.

What was that defense FSU was in? I know they were worried about them getting into position for a 60+ yard game tying field goal but maybe an extra guy or two deep with 6 seconds left and the ball on their own 40...

Horrible coaching. Only 6 seconds left in the game so the field goal wasn’t a worry. How are you not 4 or 6 deep there? Just crazy bad.

With 6 seconds they could have maybe run a 10 yard out and gotten out of bounds with time to attempt a 62 yard game tying FG.  But you give that up.  Not single coverage on WRs running deep with 1 safety over the top.  That was bizarre.

Matt Campbell would be a great get...it's who I wanted at Michigan when they hired Jim :kicksrock:

Oops, my bad. For whatever reason, PSU’s White Out next Saturday came to my mind in my response.

Penn State -6 v Auburn (College Gameday)

Alabama -15.5 @ Florida

Oklahoma -22.5 v Nebraska

Colorado -2 v Minn

Cincy -3.5 @ Indiana

Notre Dame -7 v Purdue

Miami -6.5 v Mich State

Local papers are murdering him. But he’s got a huge buyout. I would guess he survives the season and then out. Not sure though.
He'll reel off a few wins in a row, get the school believing in them again, lose another game he shouldn't, limp to a bowl game, lose horribly there and get a contract extension.

They cannot afford to fire him (they have like 1 billion in lawsuits to pay out) but they really can't keep him around anymore.  Helton is the epitome of milquetoast.

@BrodyAMiller - News: Ed Orgeron announces John Emery is academically ineligible for the season. #LSU

How is that possible?

I know this is the NCAA thread, but I'm kinda wondering about the honeymoon in Jacksonville with Meyer.  I watched that game this week and I have this feeling he'll be lucky to be there a year.  Is he going to be added to the list of great college coaches who fall completely on their face when they go to the NFL because they can't (or don't want to) make the social changes necessary?

From Reddit:

Early season OOC games in the Shoe against premier opponents:

2005 Texas - LOSS

2009 USC - LOSS

2014 Virginia Tech - LOSS

2017 Oklahoma - LOSS

2021 Oregon - LOSS

There has been a LOT written about this before the game was kicked off.  He has tried to run his team like a college team and his horrific treatment of coaches and berating of staff and players isn't going over very well.  His team was completely manhandled by another team picked to be dead last this season.  Yikes.

Plus, you tell people that your #1 overall pick is in a competition for the starting job and you see a stud RB like Etienne as a "third down back", I have to question your football IQ.

Guess I'm not in the loop.  The thought occurred to me as I was watching the game.  What motivates a grown ### man isn't the same as what motivates a 18 year old kid and there have been many who struggled with it in the past.  And from what I observed yesterday, things aren't going well in JAX, so I thought I'd ask the question.

Peter King has addressed it and there were 'reports' coming out from 'sources' before the game that Meyer's style is not suited for the pros.

Here's a good story - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/nfl/titans/.amp/news/tennessee-titans-nfl-ohio-state-football-mike-vrabel-tom-herman-fight

And that's that.  USC has fired Clay Helton.

Luke Fickell watch begins now.

Kind of surprised at the timing, figured he'd at least get until towards the end of the season.  Former Oregon assistant (and top-ranked recruiter in the conference a couple of recent years) Donte Williams named interim head coach.  But you know they're going after a big name.  Maybe Urban will pull a Petrino?

How about Joe Moorhead?

Shhhh!  Don't even put that out into the universe.

Fickell appears to have zero West Coast ties and his son is now at Cincy. Obviously better job and more money....but it seems like an odd match.

You guys miss Moorhead's previous HC'ing?  It was....bad.
True Story.

He'll figure it out one day and I'm certain he'll be a great HC.  His 2 year stint at MSU was awful.
