white claw enema bong hit, by Surfbort (from Live in the Van- fun live series) is my new favorite tune of 2022.

The pandemic caused a bunch of bands to step up their use of synths.  I'm presuming this is because they weren't able to rehearse/record in the same space so their recording process involved schlepping around a bunch of digital files.  Artists with a lot of downtime to be able to noodle around with keyboards and computers probably had something to do with it as well.

Earl Sweatshirt has a new album out called SICK! It's a very good listen if you're into that sort of abstract rap.

Here's Lye from it.

I am totally super excited about Wet Leg's album, and I am REALLY hoping that Charly Bliss drops a new one (as rumored... by them - the link in the OP makes it look official).  Laura Jane Grace is allegedly in the studio for... something?  Mondo Cosmo has a new album coming out - he is due to blow up at some point. New Beach House is out, I am looking forward to giving that one a spin. Knuckle Puck has an EP that I am anxious to hear. I have not loved the new PUP I've heard so far, but I love PUP, and I am sure I will dig the album.

That said, I already have an AoTY candidate with Forever Unclean's album Best I've got about 15 or so songs on my playlist for the year: PM me if you want it, I am not posting it here.

I found the production off on the first couple PUP songs. On this latest one it sounds like they want to play hockey arenas instead of mid-sized clubs but I'm fine with that.

I was coming to the conclusion that guitars were for old people.

3 LISTEN OVERREACTION ALERT:

This might be my favorite thing to come out in a few years
I liked it, but it was not vibing with my current mood and I only made it though about 3 tracks - I will revisit. I switched to something much more poppy to cheer me up (Telethon's Hard Pop from 2019)

I dove in as well... liked it, didn't completely turn my crank though. the talky style delivery, I think.

It also popped up on my RR today, along with:

Bodega

Coolzey

PUP

Operator Music Band

Dead Can Dance (jfc... how many weeks in a row is RR going to give me this live album- and still no Districts... wtf, algorithms)

Sonic Youth (??... I assume some unreleased thing from innaday...don't think thye've rebanded)

Animal Collective

Nilufer Yanya

Dream Syndicate (re-release?)

2x King Gizzard remixes

Simple Minds (not sure if this new or old, but sounding a bit like Foals, tbh,, but unsurprisingly not in a good way).

Silverbacks come from Ireland but sound more like a hodgepodge of North American Post-Punk bands of the past 40 years. In spite or because of their limited instrumental skills, they've put out a pretty cool LP that doesn't repeat itself in 37 minutes.

A Job Worth Something

Fun album. Do they have any connection to the Seaford Mods?

Blood Red Shoes released "Ghosts on Tape." I like this band a lot. They are a British 2 piece, but their sound expands to include some synth on this album.

Blood Red Shoes

For fans of Royal Blood

spotify wtf.

this week's RR:

Bela Bartok violin concerto

Taylor Swift Collaboration

Turkish electro dance music with vocals

6x hip hop tunes that aren't british grime.

Dead Can Dance Live.. for at least the 10th straight week

Pixies Live (same as DCD)

The Beatles

and finally something actually new I'm interested in...

Bodega

Eels

Beirut

Lewsberg (Dutch kraut-rocky minimal hook on a groove and let it ride band... love them- and they've added a female vocalist)

Broken Social Scene

Sly & Robbie, Wailers, John Holt

and some remixes

King Gizzard

Viagra Boys

A Place to Bury Strangers' first new album in a long time, See Through You, might be their best. I am loving Love Reaches Out- sounds like New Order when they were still figuring out who they were after Curtis' death. Other songs pick up on J&MC, others keep their own thing going. definite 80s vibe, but in no way sounds like a throwback or retro... aoty for me so far.

The Slow Slow - Still Life is a beautiful album for those that like that kind of thing. Released last Friday.

Stumbled across this song while shuffling through new releases recently.  Unfortunately, I'm at a loss to explain what it is about this song that I enjoy so much.  It's not my preferred genre.  It's got a real theatrical feel to it.  I dunno.  I don't know jack about making music, I just know what I like.

Black Country, New Road - 'The Place Where He Inserted the Blade'

they had a tune, Concorde,  that popped up recently on one of my spotify lists that I immediately playlisted. not my usual wheelhouse, but it grabbed me.... kinda lack that one did for you.

I liked Good Will Hunting from their new album.
