2022 NBA Roster Draft - This draft goes to 12! (1 Viewer)

So far with trae, Beal, Tobias, Wendell, and ayton—I feel like I have a nice core. With that said—I think having depth at the forward position with guys that are decent defenders and solid offensive players is a nice thing to have.  I’ll probably get clowned for this pick—but I’m going to take Kyle Kuzma here.  He’s an underrated defender and has some nice offensive game.

My pick is Kyle Kuzma.

🙂

Kuzma is interesting, he was such a whipping boy in LA but he does some good things. Probably better off the bench for a contender.

He’s not bad. On his career—15 point average, shoots 45% from the field, is averaging close to 9 rebs a game this season—and he’s an adequate defender. I certainly don’t mind him coming off of the bench.

You have to have played at least 1 minute in the NBA this year, and can't have been ruled out for the season already.

I DECLARE IT SO.
6.10 Brook Lopez (MIL) - C

The Bromingos added "Splash Mountain" four years ago, immediately inserting them into the lineup as their 3 and D starting center.  The Lakers organization didn't see how a player with his ability could anchor the defense inside, space the offense outside, and help maximize LeBron James.  Since then, the Lakers have cleaned that up with great roster moves that make perfect sense around LeBron's skill set.  :oldunsure:

Your squad's mascot has been put on notice.

I thought Robin Lopez was the mascot fighting one

So that comment I made with my last pick about all the defense still out there, well that list just got decimated between my picks. Except this guy.

6.11 - Mitchell Robinson, C - Knicks

Per minute and advanced metric darling, so the minutes I’ll need him for should keep him out of foul trouble and from getting injured (again).  Rim runner and rim protector. Bing bong.

You SOB, that's a great pick...I didn't have him on my list because I set it at a minimum of 10 games.

I think that 2020 Laker team was constructed ok.

Not sure how I feel about Brook Lopez, sometimes he looks great, sometimes ####### terrible. I'm probably biased after his horrific performance in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.  At this point in the draft it's a good pick.

OK, I have no idea what is going on. I am going to continue drafting assuming we are judging at years end when we have complete info on dudes and not just a dozen games (I reserve the right to change this thinking completely though should my guuys either suck more in the future or never play another game).

My pick is a guy who led the league in 3pt % 2 of the past 3 years. And would be leading this year if he had played a few more games.

Joe Harris - SG/SF

I am asking a lot of AD to clean up my terrible perimeter defense and am hoping that Beverley shows these dudes how to play.

PG - Patrick Beverley

SG - Zach Lavine

SF - Joe Harris

PF - John Collins

C - Anthony Davis

6th man of the year - Michael Porter Jr

Taking the no injuries thing to new limits

By the way, my interpretation of the no injuries thing was assuming “no further” injuries, not ignoring current injuries that already exist.

Not that anyone cares.

Yeah, I'm kind of in a similar boat. I expect most of these guys to return by the end of the season but what if they don't? I guess that is the risk of drafting somebody like that. Harris just got some bad news and he's going to be out a while longer. MPJ is progressing and the Nuggets beat reporters are hearing that he may be back by mid March, but who knows. Lopez may be the murkiest of all of them.

If we aren't going to vote on this until the end of the season, should we have a supplemental draft in two months to pick up some scraps? Anybody that was ineligible now would be ineligible then (Murray, Issac, etc.).

I can't figure out why there is such a divide in our country over the impressions and interpretation of statements and decrees released by government and other officials.  I also can't figure out why the NBA thread sucks SO bad.

Oh wait, I can.  We can't even agree on the interpretation of Frosty's vague decrees.  Our nation is doomed.

6.13 - Franz Wagner (#22)

I haven't watched a lot of Magic games but I like what I've seen. There aren't a lot of 6'10" guys with his skill set.

The Magic have given him a lot of run (top ten in total minutes) which will help his development.  He's hit a bit of the rookie wall this month after an outstanding December but he should be able to work through that.

I built my starters around Harden so I'm looking to add some guys now who can create their own shot for my second unit.  Wagner has shown he can do that with good efficiency for a rookie.  He's also a hedge at SF if De'Andre Hunter doesn't break out offensively.

@Long Ball Larry

@long board larry

6.15 Patty Mills

I swear every game I watch him in he never misses a shot.  A FIBA god, he's upped his shooting to 42% from 3 this year, great guard off the bench to lead second unit or can stay in in crunch time and scare the #### out of you when he's on.

6.17 Anfernee Simons Guard, Portland.

Blurb...Simons has flourished, averaging 26.1 points and 8.0 assists per game on pristine 50/43/93 shooting splits since entering the starting lineup.

He was on my short short list. He's playing great this year and has found a little juice that has him getting to the rim more than he has in a half decade. He would be a great fit for a switch everything lineup when Lillard is out.
When healthy, I think he's probably one of the most valuable sub all-star players in the league.  His shooting and strength to guard some wings provides lots of lineup versatility.  When building around Dame, the defensive capabilities of the rest of the team are so key.

Funnily enough, I have OG and Derrick White on this team, who went number 23 and 29 in the 2017 draft.  In that draft, Portland had picks 15 and 20, which they decided to package to trade up to pick 10 in order to draft Zach Collins.  The draft is an inexact science and there were questions about OG's health, but everyone knew the skillset that he possessed and a lot of people could see how he would fit on a high-level team in the NBA.  So Neil could have both of these players and maybe kept his job (well, maybe if he also didn't berate everyone around him 24/7).

####. This was the singular guy I was hoping for since I picked thirty whatever picks ago. Great pick. Here was my writeup for him from last night.

The dude has figured it out this season. He’s shooting over 40% on threes, 47.5% on long twos, and finishes at the rim well for a smaller guard. This month he has really turned it on. In 10 games this month he is averaging 25 ppg and 7.2 apg on .478/.443/.886 shooting splits while taking over 10 threes a game. Of any guard that has run at least 25 pick and rolls this season (Simons has close to 200), he is the most efficient operator just ahead of Donovan Mitchell. I think if we did this draft in two months, he might go a couple rounds higher, especially with Lillard out for the next 6+ weeks.

6.18 Will Barton G/F – A great glue guy that does a lot of things well but very few things poorly. He has played backup PG for the Nuggets a lot over the last 8 seasons and can run a lot of pick and roll with Gobert, he has consistently been a good three point shooter (5 of the last 6 seasons have been between 37.0% and 38.1%), he’s a plus rebounder, still a very good athlete, and he can credibly guard 1-3. Other than staying healthy, there isn’t really any weakness to his game which is a rarity with the players left. Plus, I need a Nugget and the rest of them blow.

PG: CJ McCollum

SG: Will Barton

SF: Harrison Barnes

PF: Draymond Green

😄 Rudy Gobert

6th: Seth Curry

Been debating these picks for about an hour and I'm still not sure....there are couple of guys I considered that I think may actually last until my next pick, so I'm pulling the trigger on some guys I think will help my team the most and likely would be gone by pick 8.20:

6.20 - PF Kevin Love, CLE - his numbers just continue to pop compared to who's left.  I know he's old and never was a good defender, but he will be the primary offensive spark off my bench....which doesn't usually come from a slow big man in his 30's.  He still rebounds very well and is just as solid a ball player off the bench as there is in the league and can slide to the 5 if we want to play small ball for short stretches.

7.01 - SF Dorian Finney-Smith, DAL - he's the glue guy for a very good team and is their top wing defender and a capable scorer (10+ ppg, 35% from 3).  He is a plug and play at either forward position and gives me a lot of versatility and quality play on both ends off of the bench.

Was weighting both of these guys with Montrezl Harrell. Love, especially, seems to have fallen a bit far. Great turn for you.

Guys a lot like Finney-Smith were being taken in the fourth round. Should have pulled the trigger on him at 6.16 and waited to see if Harrell would make it back down to 7.05.

I almost looked past him because I was so set on taking Love and didn't want two PF off the bench, but he is perfectly capable of sliding to the 3 and Love can move to the 5 as well.

Maybe I'm down on DFS from overwatching. But it seems like most of the time we need a shot from him to fall, it doesn't.
Wouldn't doubt it.  Playing with Luka and only getting 10.3 ppg in 32 minutes isn't amazing but he shoots 37% from 3 this year after almost shooting 40% last season on about 5 att/gm.

However, he's coming off my bench and will be primarily used as a defender, which he is HIGHLY capable of.

7.03 Buddy Hield - I have an interesting backcourt going but they'll definitely be able to shoot. Buddy Hield has made the 2nd most threes this year (167 so far), 2nd most threes last year (282), 2nd most two years ago (271), and the 4th most three years ago (278) all at an average of 40.0%. Point being, he can ####### shoot.
