2022 NBA Roster Draft - This draft goes to 12! (1 Viewer)

Guys a lot like Finney-Smith were being taken in the fourth round. Should have pulled the trigger on him at 6.16 and waited to see if Harrell would make it back down to 7.05.
like who?

The problem is that DFS is great in theory but he's had several years now and still has never been able to have the full impact you'd like and is an inconsistent shooter.  No issues with the pick here, but I think it is justified for him to be after anyone who was picked in the 4th.  Royce ONeale is close, though has been a bit more consistent.  Then again, he has had an easier ecosystem.

7.03 Buddy Hield - I have an interesting backcourt going but they'll definitely be able to shoot. Buddy Hield has made the 2nd most threes this year (167 so far), 2nd most threes last year (282), 2nd most two years ago (271), and the 4th most three years ago (278) all at an average of 40.0%. Point being, he can ####### shoot.
Your team is interesting to say the least.  I've never seen anything like it....incredible interior defense and 3-pt shooting, but some definite holes.

7.04 Cole Anthony - guard Orlando

He has been banged up with ankle problems the last few weeks after this was written, but he is still right around 18-6-6 despite the injuries.  He is a borderline All Star, and is not just a starter, but THE closer for his squad.   7th round value, why not.

The Great

"Cole “Cool in the Clutch” Anthony? Or perhaps Cole “The Closer” Anthony? Those are not official nicknames or anything, but they sure match the 6-foot-3 guard. He has made 13 of his 24 shot attempts (54.2 percent) in the final five minutes of games this season when the Orlando Magic are tied with their opponent, ahead by five points or less, or behind by five points or less. Let’s not forget either that he drilled two last-second game-winning 3-pointers during his rookie campaign.

Staying on that subject, Anthony is averaging 7.0 fourth-quarter points, tied with Kevin Durant for third most in the league. Only DeMar DeRozan and Giannis Antetokounmpo are averaging more fourth-quarter points. Another piece of evidence his confidence doesn’t waver in pressure-packed moments is that he’s shooting 92 percent from the free throw line in the final frame."

$$ We will now have the nice option of subbing Cole Anthony for Nurkic late, and sliding Julius to the five depending on the sitch.  This is shaping up nicely with us having such a late first rounder.

I definitely wouldn't have been happy if he was my starting PF.  But as an off the bench guy, he'll be a better option than most teams have.

He was the other guy I was considering.

best pix of rd six: Kuzma (underrated then overrated now underrated again - better for this team @ PF than 5th rd pick), Mitch Robinson, FWag and 7th rounder Hield is one of the best pix of the 6th rd (esp since Sac has GOT to trade him).

worst pix of rd six: Danny Green (posterboy for regression to the mean) and Montrizzle Harrell (who MUST lose minutes to young center tandem if Wiz is to get back above .500)

rd six comments:

- Billups is not getting enough credit for transforming Penny Simons cuz he's so bad @ everything else, but he's doing with him just what he did to himself, easing into PG tasks after a coupla yrs in. overdrafted him the yr he came out after tips from wise friends, only to see Blazers try to turn him into a standaround 3pt guy. watched him last wkend, tho, and he still aint really a PG. fingers xed

-KLove looked like he was finally regressing/running out of gas until the Markkadarkkaparkkaschmarkkanen injury. dunno if that was a one-game step-up or not

- i'm afraid that 6' and under PGs like Cole Anthony are not going to be able to work prominently for teams with playoff aspirations anymore. a half-dozen of the best will be piloting also-rans til the end of time and that's about it

7.05: Gary Payton II, guard, Golden State

@scoobus
Thought seriously about him a bit but he plays the fewest minutes of anyone drafted so far, and its not close.  He's highly effective in his role as a defensive sub for the Warriors, but is only getting 16.8 mpg so far in his 6th season.  Out of guys drafted, the next lowest guys are Klay Thompson and Kevin Love at around 21 mpg.

7.06 Nic Batum

Still a very capable and switchable defender, incredibly intelligent on both the offensive and defensive ends, and boasting a career best in efficiency this year, including over 40% from 3 point land.

As it happens, Fred VanVleet leads the league in minutes per game. I can get away with Payton not being, say, a 24-minute per night guy.

Simons has been crushing it shooting 3's this year.

Cole Anthony will be running our second unit mostly.  Him ans Cade Cunningham are gonna be fun out there against second teamers.

Yes that combined 32% turnover rate and sub-40% shooting will certainly be fun for one of the teams out there.

Great player.  Great nickname - The Mitten.  Love his intensity on defense, his ability to rise and dunk at his size, and he's working on his shot.

He's also not to be confused with Gary Payton Jr. because The Glove has two boys named "Gary" with different mothers...so the first born was "Gary Jr" and the second was named "Gary II". 😄 He's no George Foreman, but that's fairly epic kid naming there by ol' GP.

Great pick @scoobus.  Batum was next on my list to select.  He's still an efficient player and helps make a switchable defense work.

Nerds.

Yeah, just pull whatever stats whenever.  This is why this place is empty.  It's not the political forum, it's you nerds.

Considering both are main starters on their REAL teams I think they will be ok against your second units.

7.08 - Onyeka Okongwu

Another switchable big man to back up Adebayo without having to rework our defensive schemes.  Okongwu is undersized but is still a decent rim protector. His strength, athleticism and relentlessness make him a defensive standout who can slow down the league's big men either on the perimeter or in the post.

Offensively, he's very much a work in progress without Bam's skills with the ball.  He's not a shooter at all so we'll limit him to finishing pick and rolls and hanging around the dunker's spot.

@dawgtrails

Oh well.

7.10 Ricky Rubio

Team needs a PG who can truly control an offense and run it. He's actually been pretty good on catch and shoot threes. He can run an offense and defend and unlike his Minny days you have to guard him. That's a great fit alongside gravity drawing Allen, KEVIN DURANT, Bane's shooting, O'Neal's shooting, etc.

Also, he slipped 2-3 rounds too far and I keep thinking he's off everyone's radar.

Just going to add: I punted guard because I had some pretty big tiers after the top guys and there's a diminishing value to good guards with a wing like KD. I saw a couple I liked (gosh darn I wanted Eric Gordon so badly he was a perfect fit) and my current stance is that now that Rubio is gone...there's basically no other guard I see as worth picking over the next 30 or 40. They're all the same.
