2022 NBA Roster Draft - This draft goes to 12! (2 Viewers)

Other guy I was looking at. Can't believe his brother went before him.
They're really close in my book. Mikal has better defense, but he's like the 3rd or 4th option on the Suns offense. Miles is producing a lot more this year in a featured role and has a great connection with Lamelo

No injuries, huh?  We'll, then sign me up for the original unicorn...

3.11 - Kristaps Porziņģis PF/C

Unsure if he'll play the 4 or 5 for the squad, but he's good for 20 points a night, can pick and pop with the guards already aboard, and can protect the rim on defense.  When healthy Zinger is one hell of a player.

They're both great in different ways. Miles has turned into a waaaaaaaaay better player than I would've imagined when he was drafted, really impressive jump by him this year.

night & day from last yr

@Instinctive I know you're a big Mavs fan, what's your thoughts on Porzingis as a player? Can he fit with Luka long term as part of a championship contender?
I think they can. Especially with Kidd letting them actually play and develop something together. I think KP is a good enough shooter to play off Luka, and defends the rim extremely well (I think advanced stats have him way up there usually).

Plus I think he is good enough to carry the offense alongside a guy like Brunson for 15 minutes a night, which is great.

The real thing is I wish he was a more reliable dive man. The Mavs need to be able to run a true rim-pressure PnR with a lineup like KP, Brunson, DFS, Maxi, and Luka - not having to play Powell all the time.

With Trae and Beal—I need someone that can provide me with some interior defense, can be a nice offensive threat and finish when Trae gets him the ball.  I was hoping he’d be here for me—and I’m thrilled.  The dude has done a nice job with the cp3/booker dynamic—and I think he’d fit in perfectly with a trae/Beal dynamic.  I’ll take Deandre Ayton.

My pick is Deandre Ayton.

Thanks. I was not confident that he’d still be there.   Not only do I think he was great value—but I also like him a lot in regards to the roster dynamic that I’m aiming for.   I’m really enjoying participating in this because its not so much about just drafting a team for stats—but it’s about drafting a team that could actually function together and thrive.    We should definitely make this an annual thing.

yeah, part of the fun of this is that there are some players who are already good  but havent done what they'll yet do (John Collins is one of those - semi-ruined by the Hawks asking him to play out of position and then not appreciating him for doing so) and "give" them a spot to blossom

Him, Collins, and another guy still out there were in my next five after Julius Ran.

Mikal is more of a true 3 and D wing with better 3PT% and defense than Miles. Miles' scoring is way up but his shooting percentages are down across the board. Mikal seems like a more adaptable player who'd be a plug and play fit on almost every team in the league. Miles' breakout ensures he'll get paid this offseason but I think he'll need to choose his landing spot more carefully.

In our league, Mikal should be productive as third option alongside Butler and Kyrie.

If I knew Ayton would last until the late 3rd, I might have played my Adebayo 2.08 pick differently.

3.13 CJ McCollum G - I need somebody that can run some semblance of a pick and roll and McCollum has been both one of the better PnR operators in the NBA for the last half decade in terms of efficiency and relatively active in the PnR. His biggest weakness (defense) should be covered up by Gobert and Green. He can bring a lot of what Steph brings to Green and the Warriors as well as a lot of what Mitchell brings to Gobert and the Jazz.

I have to say, this board has gotten a lot more consistently intelligent in these drafts. I traded down with Frosty because I expected one of Conley, OG, or Bridges to be available. You guys showed me...
Everyone I considered with my last pick of Siakam has been taken within 15 picks.

Guys I want just aren't falling at all and each pick has seen my top 2-3 targets sniped within 5 picks of mine.

3.14 Lonzo Ball

I think he fits perfectly with Morant and Jaylen Brown.  Not a high usage player but can handle and pass the ball when he has it.  Excellent defender on both point guards and wings.  The improvement on his shot since he was a rookie has been outstanding.  He's now a 40% 3-point shooter on good volume.

Thought he'd slide because injury has kept hi out of news for a bit.

Yeah, I hadn't realized that until doing research for this draft.

I thought seriously about picking him to play the point instead of Conley.  The size of a Lonzo-Harden backcourt would cause matchup problems and Lonzo provides similar shooting and spacing as Conley.

I thought about him but it would make my team to weird. Your team is gonna run.

i watched him help beat the Celts (tho not as much as they helped themselves) last nite. he's fat. that's how out of control its gotten up in Antifatown. still woulda took him if he'd dropped to me.

We're approaching the part of the draft where people have to prioritize positional needs more.  Hopefully this will cut the sniping down a little.

Lonzo was under heavy consideration for my pick here, so that makes my choice a little easier. Going to go a slightly different route with him gone. Protecting Curry with long athletes around him who can take the tougher defensive assignments has seemed to always unlock the best version of him. Finding one who is also an elite finisher, average shooter and adequate playmaker makes the fit even better. This guy has proven to be able to play off an elite player and seems to relish the dirty work that comes with being the glue guy.

3.15 Aaron Gordon, PF, DEN

@Desert_Power is on the clock

He has been coming on very strong of late.  I watch every minute of Denver I can, and was hoping he would slide for a while.  He is really versatile as most know, but he's also playing very intelligent right now.  Joker and him have great chemistry.  The rest of those idiots, not so much.  Except that old timer they got, he's been hot too.

I've been thinking a lot along the same lines as the last two picks. A player that is averaging over 40% from the 3 spot as well as can be trusted to defend threats on the wings so the PG doesn't have to. To me, Andrew Wiggins fits best with Lamelo and Embiid in that role. Probably playing his best ball yet with the Warriors doing similar and I'm very glad he was available here.

Wiggins is a flexible complimentary piece who won't have to live up to his contract in this format.

Alright 3.17, after much trade deliberation, is Desmond Bane.

Fantastic shooter, solid defender with versatility across the whole perimeter. Looking not to bad off the bounce this year.

We should have kept him and traded Tatum.

Tratum.

3.18 Tyrese Haliburton

Versatility.  Like SGA can play on or off ball allowing them to be stars in their roles with Lebron dictating the offensive plan of action.

He’s been awesome this year even with his odd pairing with Fox.  Hopefully a trade is in the works so he can have full control of the team.  Another guy I love to watch.
