2022 Winter Olympics (1 Viewer)

I just looked up and have the Alpine team skiing on.  Two skiers going at the same time down side-by-side courses.

The gates are not very consistent about opening at the same time. Like Shiffrin's race, her gate was open three frames of the broadcast before the other racer. Same thing on the race before.  Then the race after, the other gate was like 1 frame faster in opening.

Unless it's the athletes pushing them down as opposed to them opening on green?

I imagine it's tough to get things 100% the same, especially as conditions change as they ski on them, etc.  Also the sun/shade can be a factor and the shadows from the trees on the side are different depending on time of day.

A better format though might be the same pair face each other twice, once on each side, combined times to win.

I think the strategy should be having your best skier of each gender on the blue course so they can contribute the time that would go into a tie breaker from the good course.

I noticed that a team with a skier who wiped out won the 2-2 tiebreaker.
The tiebreak is combined times of each team's 1 fastest man and 1 fastest woman.  So if one wipes out, the other one would be the contributing time.

Yea, you might be right.  I'll be honest, I had no idea who Gu was before the Olympics.  I could give two rips about winter sports.  But I do like to watch the Olympics.  So I'm kind of taking all this in.....

The more I think about it, Gu is prolly being a shrewd business woman first.  She is literally going to be set for life as a young adult.  Maybe she's idealistic too, but she's playing with fire hitching up to the Chinese gub.

I just hope this doesn't turn into some rally cry for American leftists who hate America.

Let's tap the brakes.  In two weeks nobody will remember who this person is.  She cashed in on what is surely the lowest exposure olympics in history.

i have never watched less of an olympics than i have this one i think it is because of all the doping by russia and the iocs refusal to just ban them all once and for all and the fact this is in the human rights atrocity that is china it makes me just honestly reluctant to watch take that to the bank brohans

Yeah, I definitely don’t have the Brolympic spirit for these games.

and I watched just enough curling to learn there were rules beyond “fling the rock into the other rock” to be disappointed to learn that apparently you aren’t allowed to blast the blocker stones out of the way for like 4 rounds because that would be “boring”.

So China should probably thank Russia for the figure skating scandal. Because it pretty much diverted all the international attention they were getting over the human rights issues, whether the one tennis player was safe, etc.

Every time I get a quick glimpse of Nathan Chen, I think it's Grant Imahara.

Especially with a mask on. If it wasn't for his voice I'd think it was Grant.

It seems like, you know, everyone actually finishing should be the 1st tiebreaker.

I didn't watch any figure skating, but can't Chen do some jump/spins that no other people can?  What if he is actually a robot created by Grant, and therefore he modeled his face after his own.  Unfortunately Grant passed before he could tweak the voice settings.

To make matters worse, just watched the season of The Guild that he made a cameo on. He was a cool guy. Gone WAY too young.

The topline figure is that the Olympics averaged 11.4 million viewers across all of NBCU’s platforms in primetime. That’s down 42 percent from the 19.8 million average for the 2018 winter games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Joe Rogan's podcast get's 11 million listeners.

I’m about as big of an Olympics fan as you’ll ever find and I just didn’t care much about this one…other than the curling. The time zone thing for the third straight Olympics just made me not care. They can’t have 3 straight in the same time zone again if they want to keep other places interested.

The hockey was absolutely horrible, the Russia cheating thing took all the life out of the place, skiing in front of a nuclear reactor or whatever it was just gave off a “what the F are we doing here” vibe. Everything happening at 3 am…I dunno, the whole thing sucked. Try again in Paris in 2 years I guess.

All of that plus holding an Olympics where it hardly snows. Just an ugly landscape for a Winter Olympics.
