Tevin Coleman in at RB. Looks like Carter and Hall are on ice. Couldn't tell too much about them aside from the nice run by Hall because the blocking was poor.

Despite Carter's fumble I thought they both looked decent enough. But yes the O-line needs work.

I care about Elijah Moore. Glad that he's playing and not hurt. He's my #2 WR in a 14 team league, late 6th, chosen over the likes of Bateman, Jeudy, Mooney, Kirk, and Cooper. Last year, Flacco made Moore look like an all-pro in the game vs Miami.

I'm one beer away from watching the second half of a Jets preseason game.

Seriously, seeing some bright spots today. Mike White looks good; Mims sighting; and Cager looks like an interesting project.

This is exactly where I am too. They played well enough for me to hang in there. It's early in the day - I'll have another.

Mims now five receptions on five targets with a PI on another target. 5-5 for 62 yards. C'mon Carolina! He's worth a third!
Miami is deep at WR. I suggest a 4th for Lynn Bowden who looked great for a 3 game stretch in 2020, was unexiclably put on IR for a 4-6 week injury in 2021, and has done great in the 2022 preseason. Plus he returns kicks. In space, he's dangerous. The unicorn will be a free pickup after Tuesday. As our teams improve, more good players won't make the cut.

they need to start or trade that kid

I know you're engaging in maybe a little bit of hyperbole, but who to start him over? He's not consistent enough to start over Corey Davis, Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson, Braxton Berrios.

I will say that the current coaching regime has buried this guy, but he has sort of partially been responsible for that. Bad routes, lining up wrong, not knowing the playbook -- basic stuff that he didn't do well last year. He's cleaned that up, it seems. But who to sit?

Emphasize on “trade”.

He needs a fresh start if anyone has ever needed a fresh start.

I agree with your general sentiment as somebody who, for some reason, held the guy in dynasty. But he might be more valuable to the Jets than the fourth or fifth-round pick he'll fetch. They're not getting a third for him. So that seems like a two-round downgrade from the position we selected him at. And why dump him now when he's on the upswing and dedicated to becoming a good football player? Sell high, not low.

I have him on my 16 team roster. Trade him, I sez!

It's a tough call. This team is always snakebitten by injury, so it's nice to finally have depth. In fact, other teams keep signing the guys we drop. Since when has that ever happened????

I wouldn't take a low round pick for him. He's flawed and maybe not the best fit in this offense, but talented. There are a handful of teams that could use him (da Bears for one).

If we do trade him, maybe we can get someone at a position of need like an offensive lineman or even a run-stuffing d-lineman.

Didnt get a chance to watch the game (was playing my 2nd terrible round of golf in a row...man it goes away quickly when it goes).

Glad to see Mims do some damage. Totally agree that I dont want to trade him for a 5th or 6th rounder. I know he wants out, and I dont blame him, but they're one Corey Davis injury away from him being able to play a role. (if the improvement we've seen is real). And if he keeps ascending, you can cut Davis next year and slide him right in.

Will be interesting to see how the roster shakes out. Obviously the Mims question and then the D-Line are the big talking points. I assume Streveler slips through to the practice squad.

Mimms looks good and is displaying toughness - they need to start or trade that kid.
Honestly I wish they could release Davis and play Mims and Berrios more. They’re far more exciting player to watch.

Next year. For now, let's settle for Ashytn Davis. That guy is horrible. Parks has outplayed him by far.
Yeah, Davis stinks. It was obvious right from the start. Horrible football player who can apparently run really fast. Dreadful draft pick.

The Athletic's Rosenblatt just posted his final 53 projected roster. I guess he agrees with us.

Safety (4)

In: Jordan Whitehead, Lamarcus Joyner, Jason Pinnock, Will Parks
Out: Ashtyn Davis, Tony Adams

Parks is one of the players fighting for the final spots on the 53-man roster. After the Jets cut Elijah Riley, the battle for the fourth safety spot — if the Jets keep four safeties — came into focus. Adams can make it to the practice squad, while Davis — a third-round pick from Douglas’ first draft with the Jets in 2020 — has been invisible. Parks had a few interceptions in training camp and a big hit in the preseason game against the Falcons. He played well after the Jets signed him at the end of last season, too.

Some other interesting positions:

Running back (3)

In: Michael Carter, Breece Hall, Tevin Coleman
Out: Ty Johnson, Zonovan Knight, La’Mical Perine, Nick Bawden (fullback)

Coleman isn’t a lock to make the team. His skills have dwindled, but he’s a veteran the Jets staff seems to trust. I was hesitant to keep four running backs, but Johnson does play a role on special teams and can contribute in the passing game. I think the Jets can cut Johnson initially and then bring him back (assuming he clears waivers) after a move is made with Mims or someone is placed on injured reserve. Knight deserves consideration too, but the Jets should be able to get him through to the practice squad. Perine had a good enough camp to get scooped up somewhere else. Bawden was injured for a chunk of camp and should make it through to the practice squad.

Wide receiver (6)

In: Elijah Moore, Garrett Wilson, Corey Davis, Braxton Berrios, Jeff Smith, Denzel Mims
Out: Calvin Jackson Jr., Irvin Charles, Tarik Black

I think Douglas will find a trade for Mims before Week 1 — I just don’t know that it’ll happen in the next 48 hours. So Mims makes the initial roster. There are enough teams with needs at wide receiver for the Jets to get something in return for him, be it a player and/or Day 3 draft pick. Jackson is seriously pushing for a roster spot, but like with Knight, the Jets should be able to get him through to the practice squad.

Defensive tackle (4)

In: Quinnen Williams, Sheldon Rankins, Solomon Thomas, Jonathan Marshall
Out: Nathan Shepherd, Tanzel Smart

This feels like the position at which the Jets are most likely to add another player via waiver wire. That’s why I don’t have Shepherd making the roster. In theory, the Jets need a veteran backup behind the Williams-Rankins-Thomas trio, but Shepherd didn’t stand out in camp and the Jets should be able to find a player of equal or greater skill on the waiver wire. Since Shepherd is a vested veteran, the Jets can also cut him and simply bring him back after a roster spot opens up when McDermott or someone else is placed on IR. Marshall had a nice camp and was drafted only a year ago. Smart will be a target for the Jets’ practice squad. Also something to consider: Defensive ends John Franklin-Myers and rookie Micheal Clemons both have the ability to shuffle inside as defensive tackles, too.

Defensive end (7)

In: Carl Lawson, John Franklin-Myers, Jermaine Johnson, Micheal Clemons, Jacob Martin, Bryce Huff, Bradlee Anae
Out: Jabari Zuniga, Vinny Curry

This is where the Jets face their most difficult decision. Zuniga, Curry and Anae are all NFL-caliber defensive ends, but there isn’t really a path to playing time for any of them. Perhaps the Jets will keep Curry and then stick him on injured reserve — he has a hamstring injury and is guaranteed $800,000 this season. It seems more likely that they cut him (perhaps with an injury settlement) and then bring him back once the dust settles. So that brings it to Zuniga and Anae. Zuniga was a 2020 third-round pick and had a nice training camp and preseason, but Anae outplayed him late — and he also has more of a history contributing on special teams.

Carolina is an intriguing landing spot. Marshall isn’t exactly lighting the league on fire and Robby Anderson is not an NFL caliber staring WR.

What happened to Marshall? Remember when everyone was saying that he was such a stud last summer? Just another example of be careful of summer hype

He reportedly looks better this year, but there’s no question in my mind that Mimms is better at this point in their young careers.

Watched the starters at least -

Flacco looked like Flacco - avg QB who has limitations. He'll be fine for a week or 2

RBs - I know Carter is the "starter" but Hall looks like the better RB by far - I expect him to take over as the year goes - both are good weapons though

OL - shaky to say the least but expected for 1st time together

TE - Conklin is the real deal - nice to have 1-2 punch after decades of nothing

Def - DL looked pretty good - finally a pass rush

Very vanilla outing so not taking too much from it - they made it out healthy with glimpses tough opener with Balt but Cleveland is a nice #2...gotta get out 1-1

Saleh and Ulbrich have had all summer to game play for Lamar.

Not saying they have to come out and shut him down. That's not likely...he's a unique weapon.

But if he comes out and torches them and it appears they didnt have a plan...that will say something.

What's your confidence factor right now? Mine is pretty low with Ulbrich. That said, he didn't have a pass rush or much to work with last year.

Jets are releasing Calvin Jackson who looked pretty good all summer even if he's tiny. Not sure why the coaching staff loves Smith so much.

Rumor that we may trade Edoga to Dallas. He's worth an 8th rounder at best. Hoping JD gets a mid-rounder with his usual magic.

If we're just talking about the defense, I'm actually fairly confident. Obviously it was a HORRIBLE unit last year, but they've added so much talent. Lawson, Sauce and Reed should all be impact players. By all accounts, Alexander still has gas in the tank and will be an upgrade at the other LB spot (despite Quincy Williams' physical gifts, he's obviously very erratic). Unless the defensive coaching is just flat out incompetent, I have to think they'll improve quite a bit. They have a deep stable of pass rush talent and they've upgraded in a major way in the secondary. I am a little concerned about the run defense. It was obviously bad last year and they let Fatukasi walk.

Offense...who knows. I believe in most of the pieces (wont re-hash my long standing position on Zach...he has a LOT to prove) but they're gonna need to some time to gel. Hopefully Brown has something left in the tank, but the O-line didn't get any time together. And while I'm a huge Hall fan, I dont think he's gonna hit the ground running week 1 and instantly be a stud.

Still thinking 7-10 is the number.(assuming Zach is back within a couple of weeks and takes a reasonably positive step) The front half of the schedule is just so hard.

Hmm. They cut Guidry. That's surprising. Wonder if they're gonna try and make Echols (who I assume is a lock now if he wasn't already) a slot guy behind Carter . He's obviously small and they're mostly set on the outside.

I'm hoping Alexander gets that starting job instead of Williams.

FWIW, Brown had a great grade Sunday from @rockaction 's PFF

Speaking of PFF, can you say, "on his ****"?

Sauce Gardner went his entire college career without allowing a touchdown. He just went his first NFL preseason without allowing a 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡. Hell, he wasn't even 𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒅 across three games.

I'm looking forward to week 3 when Sauce goes up against Chase and Higgins, and week 5 versus Tyreek and Waddle. It should be good smacktalk and good football.

Chase and Tyreek are out of this stratosphere. I wonder how Sauce will respond to those two. The other two WRs aren't exactly chopped liver, either. I wonder if Sauce follows the aforementioned two, or stays on his side. That'll be what's truly interesting to watch. Also, let's hope our other corners are up to snuff. Those are dynamic duos.

yeah....VERY interested to see Sauce next week. Obviously pre-season doesn't count, but the fact that nobody even threw at a big mouthed rookie is pretty fascinating. Is he REALLY that good where there was no window or was the sample size too small to matter?

Even Revis had plenty of year 1 growing pains.
