douglas has been just ok IMO. if he gets credit for 2022, then he takes the blame for essentially a zero from 2020 and a very meh 2021. this just underscores how important the draft is and not missing entire drafts, idzik style. build with the draft, fill with FAs. but getting 6-7 players and likely the DROY and OROY in the same draft is going to hide some mistakes.

I give him a pass for 2020 as it was his 1st draft and Gase was the one who brought him in so that was a mess. 2021 yielded a possible franchise QB and big time OL in AVT and Elijah who is just going through a small slump plus a heck of a RB in Michael Carter with Carter/Echols contributing big time to the DBs - thats way better than a "meh" draft in these parts! lol

Now we are talking about him possibly drafting the DROY and the OROY and say hes been ok?

I have no idea why. He's a prime candidate for a trade. They're not using him. At all. Seems like you'd want something for him. Maybe they're waiting for the inevitable Corey Davis injury. As it is, I can't see him getting in a game with his propensity to mess up routes and line up wrong. The Jets are developing, but can't afford those sort of growing pains on offense. Ship him to a team that can, really.

Re: the 2021 draft......obviously so much comes down to Zach. If he stinks (starting to look less likely, but he still aint lighting it up), they're rebuilding in 2 years and not much else matters. And right now, its hard to give too much weight to Moore. We've all seen him flash, but right now, he's an absolute non factor. That's tough to take.

But AVT looks like a future perennial pro-bowler and potential all pro
Michael Carter is a really solid 2nd RB (great value for a 4th round pick)
Other Michael Carter appears to be an elite slot corner (incredible value for a 5th round pick)
Echols is a contributor as well as both the 3rd outside corner and apparently a solid teams guy. (great value for a 6th rounder)
Sherwood and Nasrildeen are both still on the roster, but mostly as ST's guys I think.

Even if the draft was just AVT, Echols and the 2 Michael Carters (pretending like those were the only picks), its probably a B grade draft. Moore becoming what we all hope he can be makes it an obvious A and Wilson becoming a top half of the league would make it an all-timer.

2020....that's obviously a whole other story. Can't count on Becton, Mims and Hall (another guy they should probably just try and trade. Gotta think someone would give them a decent pick) in purgatory. Hall a decent punter but Davis still giving them very little and Zuniga and Perine gone.

This is still the one thing we don’t know for sure yet, but I’m more hopeful now at least. He was good against Miami, and it’s not like he was terrible last week. He just wasn’t really asked to do much. He did throw one pass falling out of bounds that was super dangerous but it’s also the type of pass Favre or Rodgers would complete, and Zach almost did. It’s there, but he needs to keep making progress.

Nobody is giving JD enough credit for accumulating the picks that led to impact players in '22. That's a manipulation of previous personnel and previous drafts. That's why his grade isn't just grading a draft, it's grading his whole performance.

Anybody upset or down on it is just a grump and curmudgeon and not seeing exactly how far we had to come in that short of a time period. It's downright remarkable. He should be discussing extensions just for the thought of what he did after McCan't and that regime and Gase.

I think you can throw a dart at any team's draft over the past few years and pick it apart for arguments sake. The moves JD has made outside of draft picks makes me believe that the team is in competent hands so I'll grade him a little better than "ok."

Jd hasnt hit mammoth HRs in FA but hes been efficient - he also has structured almost all of the FA contracts to be cap friendly within 2 yrs. Thats is a big change from previous regimes where carrying over $10M in dead cap was a yearly event. Only thing I didnt agree with was restructuring Mosely....that contract is going to be tough in 2 yrs as he cant be cut really until after 2024 without a big hit.

I thought I read in preseason that they were listening for Mims but were asking for something silly like a 4th. I could have misremembered that, but that also feels like JD having (over?)confidence in his trading ability given the returns he had gotten from some of the other dead ends. At this stage, I think we'd all be happy with a 6th and him getting a chance to move on somewhere else.

It seems selfish and prima donna-ish, but that's the nature of the game from the player's standpoint these days. They want to get paid. AJ Brown, Elijah Moore's friend, was chirping about getting paid in Tennessee his very first year and he'd had like two good games for them. That's just the way it is now.

It's sad, and nobody wants to hear the laments of a guy while his team is winning (that's a really bad look), but I get it.

Great points and examples - this is a new low. Even Keyshawn pulled his get me the damn ball crap when they were losing double digit games and left out the trade request.

If he left it at his 1st ominous post then it would have been fine...even may have led to more usage. This though needs to be dealt with harshly - I'd bench him Sunday and then reassess. They won the last 3 with minimal input by Moore - they can beat Denver without him. Let him get the feel of how sitting on the bench ala Mims for 2 yrs would help his stats. He better come back to the fold with an apology and team first attitude.

A win.....but at what cost?

Assuming the MRI confirms that Hall did indeed tear his ACL, its just an absolute back breaker for both the team and the fans. Kid was an absolute star in the making. He was on his way to being a slam dunk top 5-8 fantasy pick for next year and his talent appears to be in the same range as Jonathan Taylor. And just like that, on a fairly innocuous looking hit (other than the helmet to helmet aspect), he's gone. Just an absolute punch in the walnuts.

Just gotta hope that the Corey Davis and AVT injuries dont keep them out as well. Because if that's the case, that's arguably your top 3 offensive players so far this season (Davis hasn't been insanely productive, but he's been the go-to reciever in big moments other than G. Wilson in the Cleveland game)

And lets be real, other than his ability to get away from trouble (which almost cost him on that near fumble) Zach was pretty awful yesterday. Yes...he was playing a very good defense. Yes, his main weapon went down (resulting in having to throw away the game plan). Yes....he was under a lot of pressure. But again.....he just couldn't move the ball. He missed some easy-ish throws. (throwing behind Mims, Berrios and at least one other one)

If Hall is indeed done and Zach has to carry the offense (I like Michael Carter, but he isn't gonna carry this team)....I think we're in trouble.

The only bright side is that they have a lot of winnable games left. If they can somehow beat the Pats (I now worry about Z against Bill without Hall to carry the load)....they'd be 6 and 2. And at that point, they could probably lose every other division game and still make the playoffs (beat Chicago, Detroit, Jacksonville and Seattle...10 wins)

Obviously nothing is a sure thing and the fact that we're even talking about playoffs is a blessing. But if they were to collapse down the stretch at this point and finish 8-9, it would be a pretty big indictment of Zach and the rest of the offense. Hall is great, but he's just one man. This cant become a 15 PPG team just because he's out.

Just gotta hope that the Corey Davis and AVT injuries dont keep them out as well. Because if that's the case, that's arguably your top 3 offensive players so far this season (Davis hasn't been insanely productive, but he's been the go-to reciever in big moments other than G. Wilson in the Cleveland game)

Breece's injury is obviously the big story - as it should be - but beyond fantasy implications the AVT injury could be nearly as devastating due to him anchoring the line. And Davis hasn't put up big time stats, but he's a big time run blocker that often gets overlooked for a very run heavy team.

As you indicated, never has such a big victory felt so sour. But obviously better to be 5-2 than 2-5 with this dilemma.

Definitely agree. The only positive to come out of this is that they will now need to rely on Zach to win games - so we'll get to see if he can be successful with the training wheels off.

I can't believe such a positive start to the season gets instantly derailed and we lose the one star player we've seen in green in a long long time. Hopefully it's a clean tear and doesn't acrry into next season.

This is Zach's team now. MC is solid, but Breece was next level. By the end of the season the Staff should know if Zach is the guy moving forward.

After that game I immediately thought of that Thanos meme where they won.....but at what cost? Absolutely bittersweet. Few thoughts

QB: As many have stated already - ZW was bad. Like worse than Darnold and Sanchez bad. The good news is he doesnt seem to make the big killer mistake (though he was saved by a hair on 2 huge turnovers) but not only could he not make a big play to win the game but he couldnt make routine throws. It was scary bad. That being said - also as said above - this is now ZWs team. Some QBs play tight with these kind of restrictions. Hes very elusive and mobile - maybe now they cant rely on Hall so they have to get more creative with ZW and he plays better. Dont get me wrong - Im not calling him a bust - the kid is still less than a full season of games in and is winning - plus Id like to see him with a real OL. But this team is ready to win now - even a decent vet QB with serious warts like Jimmy G would get this team to playoffs....this is the kids chance - they have been winning despite him except for one quarter. If he turns it around its his team - if they flame out without Hall and hes exposed everything is on the table for next year - should be a fascinating watch

RB - As Joe B says Oh the pain - I try not to dive into Jet curses and such but man this hurts. I watched hours of this kid at Iowa St making cut after cut no issues...he makes a simple cut for the jets that looked like nothing and out for year. Just brutal and takes away a huge part of the team. Carter is a nice fall back but just doesnt have that home run ability that Hall did. With this injury happening in mid Oct they are looking at mid season at the earliest for him...and usually it takes at least another season to get it back (ala Barkley) - Prime talent like Dobbins never recovered - hopefully he can do it butI am so bummed.

WR - Time to break bread and get on the same page with Moore - with no Davis and Hall they need all the playmakers they can get. Wilson is just not involved lately and Braxton has been their best WR so far. Mims had yet another chance and is remembered for a bonehead penalty and no plays. At least they have depth

TE - mostly invisible

DL - great pressure - nice to see JFM

LB - flying around - thought that was an int for Mosely -

DB - Sauce proving every bit of being a star - what a pick. Other DBs played great as well

ST - big ST vicotry - may have finally found a PK in Z and Mann punted pretty good aside the one a game shank.

Coach - give the staff credit - they won back to back in two tough places.....losing valuable players along the way. They were ugly but who cares. This team is morphing into Rex's ground and pound without the clown factor. Saleh is a players coach without going extreme - his D is excellent and aggressive yet you could see he is still involved in the O. Very good job since the Flacco disaster - how they manage the loss of Hall and ZW having to win games will be a true test - and oh wait Belichick awaits next week to completely expose ZW so looking forward to how they adjust.

Great win tho so trying to enjoy the moment - despite the cost.

Yes - hard to see this remaining a run-heavy team with Breece out of the picture. Carter can't carry the load himself and Ty is also just a complementary piece.

Many are feeling the pain of Breece Hall this morning, I know it hurts worse when you are a fan of the Jets but we were all enjoying watching him play and he was a big reason the Jets were and are turning the corner. I hope people realize he was not the whole team and that maybe this will kick start the passing game a little more.

I hope the Jets decide to make a move before the trade deadline and double down on their 5-2 start. There are RBs to be had out there, Hall might not be cleared to start 2023 and he likely will be healing vs practicing much of the off season. I don't think it would be a bad move if the Jets went out and tried to acquire another RB but not anything like CMC or that type of deal.

Hunt is still sitting around and Cleveland is slowly reading the tea leaves on what will be left when they get Watson back, might be out of the Playoff race. There are many names out there, I hope the Jets become aggressive.

Would 100% be on board with trading a mid-round pick for someone like Kareem Hunt. Suck to have to blow it on a rental.....but this group absolutely can not win 2-3 games the rest of the year and be like "well, we lost Breece Hall". Not after 12 years no playoffs.

Alexander Mattison...he's set to be a free agent but they might need him for the Playoff stretch they look to be moving towards.
The SF 49'ers have got to be interested in moving a RB with CMC arriving, Jef Wilson is not sexy but Saleh knows him well and he is very expendable now for the Niners. He is on the end of his rookie deal I believe.
