2023 New York Jets (3 Viewers)

jets played them pretty even and buffalo seemed a bit out of sorts offencively. i was thinking, what to me seem to be the glaring differences between the teams. the bills have no rb game, but allen is a horse who makes plays. white seems functional, but is a pocket passer without any mobility. at times, he seems to lose feel of the pocket and surroundings. the jets need o line help, would be nice if they had their numbers 1s, becton and avt. jets need lb help. jets need another receiving playmaker. this is why teams search for franchise guys. if you flip allen and white, i think you’d agree the jets are the better team.

as much as i’d love to make the playoffs, losing in the 1st round is pointless as compared to a mid round 1st at this point in time. i’d rather the pick.

I don’t see all that much difference between pick 15 and pick 21 really - especially with Douglas’ ability to identify talent that translates to the NFL. This franchise needs a playoff appearance to legitimize it after all these years of failing to get there.

can’t believe i am saying this about the playoffs, but i disagree. a 7 seed and quick exit is nice. the goal is to win the SB and assets are needed. next year this team has a chance to get back becton, hall and avt. a 15 can be used as an asset for 2 pieces. as good as the 2022 draft was, 2020 and 2021 and very meh. the more bullets to fire the better. but i won’t argue with playoffs.

I could t disagree more with this. Give me the playoffs all day over a marginally better draft slot.
Totally on board with this. The season has already far surpassed expectations, but a playoff berth would be such a positive jolt for this organization. Especially after losing their best offensive and defensive players and having to deal with the Zach mess.

Yeah, this ain't the nba. There's no lottery to get a franchise changing player. If you end up drafting 22nd and REALLY want to get someone who won't slip past 15, you can move up.

well, with ne and sd joining the jets at 7-6, we all know which way this is going anyway.
New England is not very good.

Jets have what looked like 3 very winnable games before the season coming up. While Detroit, Jacksonville and Seattle surely look better now than back then, they're still winnable games. If the Jets can't go at least 2-1 in those games, they don't deserve to be a playoff game. Ideally they win all 3. Their defense is easily better than any of those team's defenses and should be able to slow down Goff, Lawrence and Smith - I mean they made Josh Allen look human twice, especially before Q went down.

As someone who usually loves draft picks more than Kate Upton and Adriana Lima, I want a playoff berth. I couldn't care less about a pick that late right now. I don't care if we are one and out. The playoff experience would be good for the young team, too.

It'll be must see TV going up against Geno with the playoffs on the line.

It's good for confidence heading into next season and it should help a bit with free agency. Most players follow the money but going to a winning team is also desirable.

they need to get to 10 and win the next 3, no gimmes there though. and 10 may not be enough looking at SD schedule.

if the jets miss by 1 game i don’t know if i’ll be more annoyed at the 2 pats losses, knowing that mike white likely could’ve won 1 of them or the vikings game with berrios dragging them down.

mlf loves berrios, i can’t stand the guy. obviously, i am not alone;

Berrios was a fun story over the last few weeks of 2021. But the honeymoon is long over with.

After signing a two-year, $12 million contract with $7 million guaranteed, Berrios has been a massive disappointment for the Jets this season. He had a couple of nice rushing touchdowns early in the season, but other than that, he has not provided much of anything. His returning production has fallen off a cliff and his offensive contributions are exceedingly minimal.

Berrios deserves to stay in the returner role for the rest of this year. However, the Jets need to start phasing him out of the offense.
On the year, Berrios is one of the least efficient wide receivers in football. With 107 receiving yards on 155 routes run, he is averaging 0.69 yards per route run, which ranks 118th out of 120 qualified wide receivers (min. 20 targets).
Berrios ranks that low despite the luxury of having a relatively large percentage of his plays being screen passes that were dialed up for him (meaning he did not have to earn the opportunity to make a play). Take out Berrios’s screen plays and he is averaging an even more putrid 0.55 yards per route run.
The reasons for Berrios’s extremely low yards-per-route run average are simple: He is not a good separator (cannot win routes to create his own opportunities) and is not a reliable pass-catcher when targeted. These deficiencies are why he could not fetch a large contract in a booming wide receiver market this past offseason. His skills as a pure wide receiver are lackluster.

I was on team "let Berrios walk if he thinks he's getting 3 for 30M" back in the Spring. But I was happy to keep him for what they spent.

But yeah....at the end of the day, it does seem like they'd be better off giving the screens/reverses to other guys. Next spring, MLF's main job (regardless of who the QB is) will be figuring how to get the ball in the hands of Garrett Wilson as much as humanly possible. Job # 2 will be figuring out how to make Moore into the guy we all thought he could be. Despite his salary outpacing his passing game production, they clearly LOVE Davis as a locker room guy and for what he does in the run game. So I think he'll still be around. So yeah...that just makes Berrios a very expensive # 4 WR (at best. We'll see what they do with Mims) on a team that will clearly want to run the football a LOT next year with Hall (hopefully) and Bam. Its nice that he doesn't drop punts, but it does seem like they'll be better off filling that role with a cheap mid-round draft pick.

Zach back to qb2. "Just a coincidence" per saleh and not related to flacco looking like a corpse on Sunday. Only because of Zach improving.

Sure, rob

You can never say the Jets at least arent entertaining. Gotta ask how the heck the doctors let him go back on the field during the game but few days later now wont clear him? Feel awful for the kid.
Intrigue level just went way up - its not a bad thing at all. If ZW looks great and leads the team to a win you gotta think Saleh stays with the kid based upon draft pedigree. If he stinks it up and looks the same then there is no doubt on where he stands...at least he gets another shot after having a few weeks to clear his head.

I hope the home crowd supports the ZW - its in the organizations best interest for him to succeed and this may be his last chance. Im hoping for a stellar showing.

I admire the cautious optimism/hope.

I just dont see it. The kid is AWFUL.

Guess we’ll just have to see what he can do. ZW did win some games early on, but that’s when he didn’t need to do much as the DEF was shutting everyone down and Breece was running roughshod. If the D can continue to play lights out, which will be challenging if Q is out/limited, then maybe they can take this one. But if ZW has to put the offense on his shoulders, it could be another disaster. Totally hope I’m wrong, but hard to have a lot of faith in ZW even after his lengthy timeout.

No doubt ZW was awful - but he was also cocky - I dont think he dreamed that he would be pulled for White. He now knows his career is on the line. The kid has talent - he was thinking too much....wouldnt shock me if he takes advantage of the situation and plays well. I could be wrong and we may be subjected to him overthrowing screens and skipping short passes but at least we'll know for sure - its not crazy to think that giving the kid a few weeks to get his head together may help.

I know missing out on the playoffs would be rough - but this season already exceeded all of my expectations. They went from a season of developing ZW and the young players to playing meaningful games in December....with a QB in flux; losing a ton of OL, their best offensive player, etc - I am in no way conceding the season but if they come up short so be it. I kind of like that Zach has one game at redemption - what a story it would be if he plays lights out.....and if he stinks its back to White next week with still an outside shot at playoffs if they run the table.

I'm certainly rooting for it. Just don't see it. I dont think Zach has been humbled. I think he thinks he got a raw deal. The fact that the players were SO all about Mike White speaks volumes about the attitude he has shown. I dont think that changed in the past 3 weeks.

I expect more of the same on Sunday. The first time Hutchinson beats his block, Zach will be running around like a chicken with his head cut off getting ready to bounce one 5 yards short to Conklin.

That's my impression, too. His mechanics still look awful, too, in the videos that I saw. As much as I hope not, I have a feeling we see the same guy out there who can't complete the simplest of passes because his torso is facing one way while his legs face another way.

That said, I'm still not sold on the team disliking him as a person or because of the way they embraced White. I'm pretty sure they would embrace anyone that looks competent, cocky or not. I think a lot of this personality stuff is overblown. People just want to win. WIlson doesn't do that. Plus Wilson's play makes others look bad (e.g. Moore).

Even if the Jets win, they're going to want a guy that helps them win, not a guy that they win in spite of. It's White's job when he's healthy.

If its same ol Zach then its a 1 wk confirmation - if ZW throws 3 TDs, looks solid and leads the team to a win I dont see Saleh putting White back in. ZW literally playing for his career.

Yea he might be. Because if he stinks, they will go to White the rest of the year, and are probably bringing in a vet FA next year. The rest of the team is too good to waste.

ZW has a shot to take this job and make it his for a decade. I mean he always had that shot, but hopefully he now understands it is serious.

Lot of people blasting Zach in the ZW thread, and deservedly so for the most part. I just hope he shuts all of us detractors up.

Can he really shut us all up with one game, though? A game he’s only starting because the 5th round backup quarterback that has looked immensely better than him has a fractured rib?

He better really light things up Sunday if one game is going to silence the naysayers after as bad as he’s looked.

I don’t think he needs to light it up, just move the chains, limit the turnovers, and above all, win. Easier said than done, but if the defense keeps Goff & Co. in check, it’s possible.

Yes, if he can put himself in a game manager mode, Jets can definitely win this game with that defense.

I mean they’re not wrong - but this board does have a ton of loud mouth dummies on it that just love to join the echo chambers (and bashing on the Jets has long been a thing). I do hope Zach shuts them up as well.

It's a pretty fascinating matchup IMO. Both teams have an identity which embodies their HC. Tough, physical football.

Really hoping Q plays, want to see the Jets D at 100% versus Detroit's offensive line. Ben Johnson is in his first year as OC, Mike LeFleur and Jets legend Aaron Glenn are in their second year as coordinators, Greg Williams has been a DC since the Titans lost to the Greatest Show on Turf.

Two maligned quarterbacks, one playing at a high level, the other seeking a redemptive arc. They won't necessarily matchup but Sauce Gardner and ARSB are already at the top of the food chain at their respective positions.

Strength on strength - Lions offense v Jets defense.

Both teams want to own the LOS.

Both franchises have a long history of futility, led by impressive young head coaches trying to write a new narrative. Both teams have tremendous fan bases who have waited a long time to see meaningful games in December, they both desperately need a win to keep slim playoff hopes alive.

The Jets have a 41% probability to make the playoffs, but it drops to 27% with a loss to the Lions. Detroit is still a very long shot (24% to 27% depending on source) to extend it's season but that goes up to 40% with an improbable third straight road win.

Hoping for a good game. Should be a good ole fashioned slobberknocker.

I've got nothing against Wilson and often root for players (young men) to succeed, despite the jersey. That being said, I'm not optimistic given what I've seen so far from Zach. From a fantasy perspective, I have a team (my highest money league) that has been injury riddled (almost to the point of a lost season), squeaked into the play-offs and is heavily invested in the Jets (defense, Garrett Wilson, Bam). I'm not as confident as I was with White under center. Agree with your take on people's perception.... In fact, part of my strategy was targeting Jets players as guys that could exceed their draft slot, in part because team perception lowered their ADP.

I'm a fan of the Jets for 50 years, but I have followed the Lions closely this year. At one point early around 2 weeks in, I actually posted that I was impressed with their rebuild. They played tough against the Eagles in week 1. Beat Washington and lost a close game the Vikings and then another to Seattle I think. Then the wheels came off before their recent streak.

The Lions seem to have had a very good draft. The Jets probably had the best draft in the league. Both teams play tough and like you said in the identity of their head coaches.

I've always thought Goff was better than his reputation which formed I guess from getting dumped for Stafford after LA's failures (I always thought their coach was overrated).

St. Brown is one of the best WRs in the league. He gets open so easily. The Lions will attack the Jets with him in the slot obviously and probably attack our LBs with Swift. Unless our defense comes out flat (which happens once in a while, I'm not too worried about your offense. Our CBs have shut down the best WRs in the league, so I'm not concerned about your outside guys. They will score some points (17-20?) , but outdoor in the cold with this defense, it won't be enough of a problem for our offense. Well, offense with Mike White.

With this dope Wilson, anything is possible. If you get any pressure on him, he will run around like a headless chicken. Us Jets fans can only hope that he doesn't compound it with hero ball and turn it over like a blind man playing QB. If the Jets can control the ball and run the ball well, they will win. Forced to pass and well, it might be scary.

Good luck, but not too much.

Obviously Wilson shouldn’t inspire confidence in anyone at this point. As you see the Jets fans in here are not optimistic and are at best hopeful.
That thread is now a cesspool lead by one of the dumbest trolls on this board - who is obviously just in there to troll another poster that’s in there expressing some hope - and a few “one line” posters who add nothing as well. Maybe some people would actually like to discuss football instead of just reading “duhhhhh….he stink”.

Some thoughts:

1) Zach Wilson inspires no confidence long term. We haven't seen anything really from him yet where it looks like patience will be rewarded. I can count on two hands the impressive throws.

2) The short turnaround from being benched leaves me with less than no confidence for today, so short term is out the door.

But,

3) The team doesn't necessarily hate Zach's attitude, they hate his performance. Just four weeks ago Uzomah was wearing a Zach Wilson shirt and singing his praises. Things changed because he stinks, not because of his attitude. Saleh specifically said his attitude was good and what he wanted in a quarterback. He didn't soft-pedal it, either. Not sure where people are wildly speculating this poor attitude from. Debating it -- positing it -- is stupid. Do we really have a bunch of Soap Opera Johnnies that actually read the back pages of salacious rags like the Post, Daily News, and Twitter musings? It's absurd.

4) All we can really say is that the kid really hasn't shown us he can play. All the positive or great mental attitude in the world won't make the difference when you're folding like a cheap umbrella under dribs and drabs of pressure.

5) That's about it. Hope I didn't ruin anyone's morning by assessing his performance fairly but totally disagreeing with the attitude thing. If anything, the dog peeing guy that demanded a trade and the rookie talking about football like war have their heads on wrong. Just like when Zach looked uncomfortable standing next to Waddle during the draft while he flashed finger gang signs, it might be a case of the people around the person acting stupidly, not the person himself. Enjoy your Sundays!
