2023 Pittsburgh Steelers. Banged up team loses to Buffalo. Looking ahead to 2024 now (2 Viewers)

Charlie Jones to the Bengals… could have replaced Gunner
Super overrated, in my mind. Glad someone else drafted him.

Edge definitely a big need, to me, and Herbig is as good as any remaining. I'll take it. Outside the TE (philosophically, anyway) ive been pretty satisfied.

Really good draft. My only real gripe was moving down too far in the 3rd. Would have rather drafted Simpson and not moved down 13 spots. Buy minor complaint unless he turns all-pro.

Dawand scooped up by Cleveland makes me physically ill. Will be a constant reminder if the kid wants to make millions playing football.

Defense side was a very good draft. Going to be fun watching them play.

Offense I’ll put some steeler colored glasses on and say there is hope with Weidl influence building up a power smash mouth line. If I don’t like the picks, guess I can go buy my own football franchise Haha

All of our picks expect the last one, Spencer Anderson, were in Dane Bruglers top 100.

Jones 15th, Porter 16th, Washington 30th, Benton- 56th, Herbig 79th and Trice- 88th

The first 4 above were in Daniel Jeremiah's top 100 with Trice in the top 150. The first 4 were in his top 40 overall.

Glad they double dipped on corner, and as a seventh rounder Trice actually has a shot. more than you can ask fore most of those.

I don't know that I've ever even heard that guard's name prior to today. From Maryland so I'm assuming that is a Straw Hat pick. Would have much rather seen them take a chance on a Grant Dubose/some WR. Or the big moo-cow from Coastal Carolina.

Wide Receiver/Return Specialist Jordan Byrd – San Diego State
Center Trevor Downing - Iowa State
Quarterback Tanner Morgan – Minnesota
Defensive End James Nyamwaya - Merrimack
Linebacker David Perales – Fresno State
Fullback Monte Pottebaum – Iowa
Kicker B.T. Potter - Clemson

Tackle with the first and last pick and a MASSIVE TE.
The offense will be run-heavy to take pressure off of Pickett.
Expect a big year from the RB.
Back to ole Steeler smash mouth offense and tough-D.
AFCN gonna be a bloodbath this year as every team can challenge.

This draft couldn't really have gone much better. We move up for the last of the good OTs right in front of the Jets who were 100% going to take him. Then we get the guy at 32 that many people would have been happy with at 17.

Lots of us were high on Benton and I'm glad we got him at 49. Some think he doesn't have enough pass rush potential, but I think he showed at the senior bowl that with the right coaching that pass rushing is definitely a possibility for him. He is going to learn from one of the best right next to him and I think he has the upside to be Hargrave-esque.

The Washington pick is the most divisive, but he was mocked to us at 49, or even 32, so I'm much happier taking him at 93 (obviously). For me, he's a player who has a lot of upside but also a high floor. His floor is basically a swing tackle who can take off and run routes. For better or worse the AFC North is still about smash mouth football and Washington should help improve our running game. Also, he played on the same offense as the best TE in the NCAA, I think he has the chance to improve his pass catching in the NFL from where he was in college.

After the Jones and Porter Jr picks, the rest of the draft feels like playing with house money. If you told me pre-draft we're going to use our 1st and 4th to move up for Jones and both of our 2nd round picks to move up for Porter Jr, I would have been happy with that. They both should be high quality starters. Getting JPJ at 32 still feels unreal.

This draft is full of players that graded out as special teamers or players who might pan out as backups. I think we can solidly say that we probably got at least 3 players so far that will be starters by the end of this season at the latest. Benton might be behind Fehoko to start the season but I have confidence he'll bypass him.

Love the first two picks by the Steelers. I think Jones is going to be the best OT in the draft.

What free agent qb3 and LBs are left out there?
Vet FA qbs? You aren't going to like that list very much.

"Best" guy for the money is probably Rudolph. 😂

According to Sporttrac youre looking at 13 vets still available(12 minus Brady), and of those likely half won't consider themseleves "a #3"...

Wentz, Ryan. Bridgewater. Siemian, Flacco, Daniel, Rudolph, Josh Johnson, Brandon Allen, Rypien, Wolford, Perkins are who they show as UFAs at the moment.

Closer you get to camp, some of the "I wont be a three" types may get off that horse if they want a gig.

They show almost 40 LBs still as UFAs. Would depend what theyre after...strictly depth, or "guy who may be able to be a middling starter"? A bit thin either way, really.

If Rudolph wants to continue to collect an NFL paycheck, he should come back to the steelers as the #3. Otherwise, he can go sell insurance.

I loved every pick until the last one. That seems like a throw away
He's an OL who has played literally all 5 OL positions. We needed a backup center, we only had Green behind Cole and I'd honestly rather give a 7th round pick a try than have Green try again. He could definitely make the team given his flexibility and a 7th rounder making the team is a crapshoot.

Trice was my favorite sleeper CB in the draft. Outstanding pick this late. He could be a future starter.
He a CB or a S?
I think he can stay at CB, but he's very press based. He'd have gone way higher when more teams ran cover 2.
I hope he stays at CB based on his work in press man. Last year he allowed 1 completion on 88 press man snaps. Idk about y'all but I like Brett Kollmann as a talent evaluator, and he had Trice as his #5 CB in the class.

In the 7th round if he can make the team that's a win. With his size and skill at press man I think he'll be able to start as a backup CB/special teamer.

If every pick makes the team, that's better than most years. See Oladokun, Chris; Roche, Quincy; Brooks Jr, Antoine; etc.

The Khan Artist killed this draft (along with Weidl, Tomlin, and Rooney II). The upside:
  • 1st - Potential Pro-Bowl LT
  • 2nd - Shut down press man corner
  • 2nd 2nd - D-Line who could be Hargrave 2.0. Similar athletic profile with slightly worse 40 but better 3-cone.
  • 3rd - Excellent run blocking TE who has untapped pass catching potential. Pairs incredible with Muth.
  • 4th - OLB who is excellent at tackles for loss, aggressive as hell with lots of upside if he learns from TJ.
  • 7th - CB who dominates in press man. Possible starter next year in the 7th round.
  • 2nd 7th - OL who can backup all 5 positions. Crazy versatility and getting a solid backup in the 7th is great value.
Darnell probably won't start over Muth but if Muth misses time he'll definitely be next man up. It looks like we have 2-3 players who will start week 1, and Benton will probably start by end of season assuming he beats out Fehoko by then. Then we have 2-3 players who are the 1st backups with starter upside. There's a lot to be excited about.

Seen this movie already. Id prefer he go sell insurance even if he wanted to play football for free.

From what I've seen I'd rather have him for $3 mil than Trubisky for $10 mil...

Steelers UDFAs so far:
  • QB - Tanner Morgan, Minnesota
  • FB - Monte Pottebaum, Iowa
  • RB/KR - Jordan Byrd, San Diego St.
  • DE - David Perales, Fresno St.
  • K - B.T. Potter, Clemson
  • C - Trevor Downing, Iowa St.
  • DE - James Nyamwaya, Merrimack College

The only 2 that really stand out to me are Byrd as a possible Gunner replacement if Calvin Austin doesn't take over returns, and Monte Pottebaum at FB. I'm hopeful that Connor Heyward takes over the HB role and is used much more this year, but Monte could help take over Derek's special teams work.

I think it would take a ton for Tanner to make the team over Trubisky so I'd assume he's just a camp body for now.
