2023 Pittsburgh Steelers. Banged up team loses to Buffalo. Looking ahead to 2024 now (6 Viewers)

Early on, I was hearing they did not like Porter. There are other CBs that they like and having no 4, 5, or 6 now, I suspect they may trade back to get more picks.

I think the trade back is the most likely scenario.

A few months ago I opined that I wouldn't be shocked if once we got to day two, there were more than a few players available that a lot of team assumed would not be. that's going to get the Steelers almost 24 hours to really shop around and leverage that pick.

It's a deep cornerback class, and the Steelers could feel like they can find a starter in round 3. Some other team could overpay for 32 because they love Porter or Cam Smith. Some team could be in love with Will Levis, too. LB is very shallow this year, and some team could want to overpay to grab Sanders or Simpson.

Who knows? Fully expecting the unexpected though. We're not dealing with Colbert anymore, so Omar could surprise. Watch them take Mingo. 😁😅

At least 3 teams with top 10 second round picks have spoken with the Steelers.

That's about what I'd have expected...and would probably be fine with the tactic. Trading down, but not TOO far, to pick back up a pick or two? I'd feel decent about it if they stayed inside the top ten of the second. Should still be able to get a really good player at a few positions they need help.

Rams or Raiders trade is my guess. Otherwise, it is Porter.

Chart works for Rams to give us #36 and their first two 6th rounders. Or one (both?) 6th and a 2024 5th. Rams don't have a 4th or 5th this year.

Chart works for Raiders to give us #38 and #109

Porter is a home run pick here. I know it would be nice to trade the 2.01 with those qbs on the board, but damnnnnn porter would be a good fit and was already mocked to them many many times in round 1.

Maybe someone does something dumb and over shoots the chart though because the trade is basically for an alleged franchise qb.
Heavy on the "alleged." Levis' issues are real/legion.

But plenty of teams have more money than sense, and like to draft with their **** instead of their head. So, your scenario isn't impossible.

Broderick Jones analysis
Steelers got their guy. Excellent breakdown of Broderick here dropped yesterday. Athletic and moves great. Serious technique issues to develop before week 1.

Would be great to see Pittsburgh continue focus on building the trenches. We need more cowbell.

I like Broderick, but he's got some big time growing to do. Another year in College at LT would have been much better for him in my opinion.

Joey Porter Jr. a gift in round 2. Smart decision to not get cute here.

Odds John Michael Schmitz falls to 49?
I know they won't take Dawand Jones, but delusional me keeping the dream alive. He has tremendous skill for a big man.

Him, Simpson, or Drew Sanders. Or a trade down if a few guys there I think.

Pretty much a "can't go wrong" pick there. JPJ gets grabby, but he really is waaaay too good to ignore with their current needs at that position.

At 49, they have to believe there looking LB(inside or Edge), and perhaps DL, right? (Watch them take Mingo.)

I don't want any part of Schmitz (Malt Liquor Bull) there. Dude's 50. Guess maybe if they wanna get Najee a pickleball partner.

Honestly, for the right guy, I wouldn't fault them for double dipping at CB either.

Tennessee traded #41, #72 and a 2024 3rd to move up for Levis. Steelers should have made that trade. Porter is good, but by no means a slam dunk and MAY have even been there at 41.

That’s a good haul. I would have been happy with that or JPJ. It was a can’t lose scenario.

If the Titans were offering it to the Steelers, sure.

Arizona is in the opposite conference though, they may have not wanted to give an AFC team those picks.

Maybe, but they're not division rivals. My guess is that was the deal Tennessee offered for 32, but the Steelers didn't think Porter would still be there at 41. I think there's a chance he would have been, but I'd have made that trade even if he wasn't.
