Cuba-Netherlands tonight

Holland has historically been the strongest European team and the Cuban team includes some Major Leaguers for the first time. I'm interested to see the return of Yoenis Cespedes who has always been a fun player to watch.

Holy cow enough of the Horn!

That horn was definitely enough to put it on mute and/or go to bed. Gross.

Bought tickets today to both semi-finals. May sell one set depending on the teams that are playing. Had to buy them on the after-market since they were sold out via Ticketmaster.

Should be fun and especially crazy if two Latin teams faceoff in semi's in Miami!

Random thought while watching these pool games ... I wonder why there's such a hard line in the sand on batting style between Asia and North America. You'd think, especially after guys like Ichiro came over and captivated MLB with his approach, that there'd be some "hitting specialists" charging travel ball kids hundreds by the hour to learn the "specialized" hitting approach.

You might see more if there was a better record of success for Asian hitters in MLB. But "guys like Ichiro" is a very small set.

There's been a general decrease in the number of unique individual batting stances and swings. I think a lot of that is due to the emphasis on power on both sides in the modern game. It's harder to get around on a 102mph pitch if you're holding the bat way up like Bobby Tolan once did and if you do manage to make contact, players want to drive the ball rather than slap at it.

I guess that's a fair point re: Asian hitter success in MLB. The overall track record is spotty (at best).

It makes sense that the "Driveline era" would render the Asian approach as ineffective. The measure of success seems to be SLG at all costs.

There are differences in the style of game, obviously, but it does seem like Asian hitting approach does hold a place in the fastpitch game even if it isn't classified as such. "Slap hitters" are doing a lot of the same things Asian baseball hitters do and they enjoy a specialized place in that sport.

I'm curious to see how Masataka Yoshida's bat plays in Boston. His swing looks very pretty with a little leg kick to give it some individuality.

I'm not going to draft him though because there's no speed and questionable power, although I could see him getting a bunch of doubles going opposite field in Fenway.

What app are you using to follow the WBC? I am looking for scores, standings, schedules, and stats and I'd love the MLB app style pitch tracker. Is the ESPN one really the best option?

MLB app. Just have to go to the Classic link at the bottom.

I just looked again (for the 4th time ;) ) and found it... it is hidden in a menu on the upper right on android. It just seems to be presenting a mobile version of the MLB.com gameday, but that is better than nothing. Thanks.

Yeah, not as slick as their usual gamedays, but it works.

Been watching this on and off and man, Japan’s bracket and schedule is ridiculously easy. I get they want to have games over there, amazing atmosphere, but that group with DR, Venezuela and PR was incredibly unfair and Japan gets to kick around freaking Italy in a knockout game.

Pool B was the CONCACAF of the WBC

Venezuela very unlikable. And how can they have that many fans in the stands? Where do they get the money to go to these games.

Got tickets to tomorrow’s game. It’s going to be NUTS!

Also have tickets to JPN v. MEX but may try and sell them.

Bought both semis a couple of weeks ago hoping for tomorrow’s matchup.

I have been living in Miami (North Havana) for 13 years so I know how fanatic these Cubans are going to be.

i’d rather bury $375 in my yard. i don’t get the appeal of this fabricated and truncated tournament.
I mean every sport and season is fabricated, it’s not like Moses came down with tablets full of a 162 game schedules

it’s an exhibition. you ain’t getting paid by your employer.
You’re missing out then. This is the best baseball I’ve ever seen in my life.
Yeah. This has been fun to watch. MLB should take notes and throw away the antiquated “unwritten rules of baseball” and let these guys have some damn fun.

This is great.

I’m so mad I didn’t go. Only 4 hours from me. Had no idea it would be this great though.
