2024-25 NBA Thread: ESPN ready to debate if Warriors blowing 3-1 lead to meager Rockets diminishes LeBron’s legacy (29 Viewers)

The Lakers looked like a different team last night. The acquisition of Bronny is already paying off 🏆
Healthy and rested AD is just a different animal. IST repeat coming?

Barkley was funny last night clowning the Lakers and their fans. "AD gonna have to play like this all season if they want that 9th seed"
hes right the game has shifted to analytics and and three and d and the lakers are a two based team so unless something changes and they start finding a three game or they find a time machine and go back to the 90s i dont see a championship year take that to the bank brochachos

You only have to shoot 33.3% from 3 to match 50% from 2. Getting good looks from 3 is easier than driving the paint or passing it to the post (more TO's) and scoring 55-60% of the time. Also 3's allow for more offensive rebounds which equals more shots which equals more points. It isn't that complex and it shouldn't have taken 40 years for us to figure this out.

Mazzulla seems to be fully committed to this line of thinking and Stevens has built the ideal team for it. 8 guys that can shoot the 3 and defend multiple positions. I know you can't shoot 55% from 3 every game, but over the long haul (and even a 7 game series) it is tough to beat trading 2's for 3's.

Just another reason that I don't like LeBron.

Zero self awareness. You want to use your influence to get your kid a job at your company? Cool. Just don't act like he earned it.
Some of you are just born to be haters. Man doesn’t have one scandal. Not a thing. 4 titles, one in Cleveland which hadn’t had one in 60 years. All time scoring leader. Put team USA on his back at age 39. 22 years in the league. And still hating.

I give him credit as the 2nd GOAT. His title in Cleveland over the Warriors after down 3-1 is one of the greatest feats in sports history and he made that happen. His health and longevity and the scoring title are incredible. He did play well this Summer for team USA (but TBH, Curry carried the team to victory).

I appreciate his game, but don't care much for the man. He appears to think his basketball success means he is good at more than basketball. He's made public statements about things outside of basketball that were uninformed and has caused societal harm due to his outsized influence. His son isn't good enough to make an NBA team, much less play any real minutes. These may not be "scandals" but they aren't endearing traits.

I haven’t played fantasy bball in a million years, but I have a hard time figuring out what sochan brings to the table. I guess maybe some rebounds but his shooting percentage seems like it would be way worse than other guys who can board
Sochan was either my last pick or second-to-last. I was pick 11 out of 12 and I know I got him and Mathurin right at the end.

I read on FantasyPros or some other site that he was a decent sleeper. I know they brought in some players that could eat into his PT, but he was putting up good numbers in every category towards the end of last season.

Definitely on a short leash in terms of my fantasy team.

Seriously. And what the hell kind of Dad, would after his kid's first NBA game, be like "nah, he wouldn't and shouldn't even be in this league if it wasn't for me"

I like the way JJ and the Lakers handled the whole Bronny/LeBron situation last night.

Get it out of the way early in the game/season so it doesn’t keep being the storyline, and done after the normal subs came in so it doesn’t ruffle any feathers. Kept it to just one 3-minute stint at the end of the first half without forcing any more time down our throats so people can’t complain about all the valuable minutes he is taking away from Gabe Vincent or Cam Reddish.

Bronny deserves a ton of credit for the work he put in just to get in the conversation to be at this level, especially after his heart issues that weren’t that long ago. As a rich kid set for life, he didn’t need to do any of that work.

Plus he was their 55th pick, it’s not like that pick normally results in anything other than a euro stash. Hopefully from here on out, he and the Lakers can focus on his development to get him to the level he needs to be at to be more of a contributor.

Societal harm? You mean all those kids he’s sending to college? Pretending to know all the lyrics to a Future song in a instagram video? The horror!

Now that he's had his moment, he should spend the next couple of years in the G League if they are prioritizing what's best for him. But because it's the Lakers, I'm guessing he'll be a distraction on the active roster all year.

Agreed. I’m fine if he gets some garbage time minutes here or there, but they need to treat him like a normal late draft pick rookie on a veteran team going forward. That’s why I was happy they didn’t try to make him part of the regular rotation last night.

I don't regard it as a big deal, but LeBron's "shut up and get in line" appeasement of the Chinese government unfavorably shades my opinion of him more than anything he did on a basketball court. I'm not well-read on the topic; I could become more informed, but I don't have enough interest. I'm surpised I have enough interest to even type out this post.

James said Morey "wasn't educated on the situation at hand" and that his tweet could have harmed people. However, some say James' silence on China's human rights situation is proof that he only cares about some minorities"

I enjoy bagging on Bronny just because I don't think he deserves his NBA position and it's funny but I can't fault Lebron for helping his kid. I'd do the same if I was in Lebron's shoes.

As for hating on Lebron, that's something I'd never do. I can't poke a hole in his game on or off the court (I can do this for Jordan). What an enigma of a player and human.

I've seen some people try to connect him to all of this Diddy stuff lately.

Nothing credible or anything that I've seen.

I kinda took his comments as a (not so subtle) reminder to Bronny that he needs to keep working if he wants to stick. Seems like another team or two might have drafted Bronny, so I don't know if it's completely fair to say Bronny's only in the league because of his dad. Sure doesn't hurt though.

I really hope Bronny spends a lot of time in the G league until he's developed some kind of consistent way to contribute on offense, because he's a big negative there right now. He's ready to play D against small NBA guards right now, but they couldn't afford to give him anything but garbage time minutes if he's on the top roster.

We aren't allowed to discuss such things. I tried to be vague so may not be the best phrasing.

This is being blown out of proportion. This is an all timer with a nepo ham & egger. Not exactly the Ken Griffey/Griffey Jr moment. I hope this can just play out without all the media hype

If we want to make fun of LeBron, the least we can do is recognize the milestone he hit last night - most career missed FG (passing up Kobe).
i dont even care what record it is as long as someone takes it from kobme take that to the bank brohans

also as a bucks fan i feel uniquely situated to comment on relatives who dont belong on an nba roster but but i would like to say that i will proudly eat my hat and the appropriate amount of crow when junior turns out to be a pretty good player take that to the bank brohans

I was thinking about Thanasis reading the last page and it seems to me that's always kind of been more of a funny thing for most fans, not the serious business everyone is making out of Brony getting a roster spot. He's not on the roster now but could likely be back soon according to reports. We generally accept that there are likely good reasons for the Bucks to keep him around and its otherwise not really discussed much at all. We always see a few Thanasty jerseys at games and all hell breaks loose at the Fiserv if he gets a chance to unleash one of those nasty garbage time dunks.

I think everyone is pretty upfront about Thanasis only being on the roster to appease Giannis so it's less controversial.

It kinda is though, just in the opposite direction. Griffey Sr was 40 years old and was released by the Reds because he was awful. The Mariners signed him because Griffey Jr was there and only because of that.

But also - ignore the fact that Griffey Sr actually played pretty well for Seattle :bag:

bucks look ok granted it’s early and half of the philly starters are not playing but hey take what you can get take that to the bank riders of rohans

Love having Sengun back healthy. The kid looks much more confident out there. Nice first half for him (19pts,13 boards and 2/2 from 3)

I expected "The Wall" at the Ballmerdome to be more Clippers-era John Wall but it's more like Wizards-era Wall. It still must be a long trek to get to your seats if they're not near the entrance.

Definitely love the look of that arena and finally look forward to attending a Clippers game for the first time in my life.
it looked really cool and like a fun place to be take that to the bank brochachos

Opening night for Dallas! I'm totally ready to have Wemby make this a flat night and get off to everybody-freaking-out season right away.
