2024-25 NBA Thread: for the second time, somebody in Dallas hits low percentage shot that leads to a generation of conspiracy theories (23 Viewers)

Top 10:

Dominique Wilkins, Doc Rivers, Jordan, Bird, Duncan, Jokic, Magic, LeBron and Curry

Looks like Top 9
Number 10 is Jon koncak

If I did go with another Hawk I don’t know who it would be - I guess Trae but I also hate him and will never look at him without thinking we could have Luka.

Maybe Dikembe just for the finger wag.

Spud Webb was pretty cool
Tree Rollins.
Jon Koncak.

If we are talking pure enjoyment to watch play basketball, then in no particular order these guys jump to mind as guys just doing amazing things in fun ways. Sometimes because it's like an actual athlete playing a style I play to an obviously way better degree and some because I could never imagine doing the thing they did:

LeBron
Jokic
Luka
Steph
Giannis
Shaun Livingston
Chandler Parsons
Chuck Hayes
Brunson
Steve Nash
Matrix
Vince Carter

I'm sure there's more but hey jumped to mind

Long Ball Larry beat you to it. We discussed him a few posts back.

Lonnie Walker signs a 1 year deal with the Celtics, presumably for the minimum. Nice guy for them to have on their bench if ever needed. Surprised he couldn’t get any more money anywhere

Sam Vecenie has a great podcast called Game Theory. Anyone who likes nerdy basketball content should listen. A recent pod was the top 24 prospects, under the age of 24. Was a great listen.

Top 10 was
Wemby
Ant
Zion
Chet
Paolo
Miller
Haliburton
Maxey
J Williams
Barnes

Just outside that top10 were Cade, Mobley, Sengun, Amen, LaMelo

Glad you posted that. I was about to permanently delete this podcast from memory

I think they had 7 Rockets in their top 40. That is nuts.

That's good to hear. Most are sleeping on the future of the franchise. I'm seeing OKC type improvements in the next three years. Note: I'm a little biased

It’s possible, but who will be their “Shai”-level player? Do you think that player is currently on the team?

I don't think they have that player yet. Whether Sengun or Amen or whoever becomes that is the question. I bet they make a move in the next ~2 years to get that player via trade though. They are set up really really well. Have some picks and have a ton of young talent that many teams would be interested in

I don't think the Thunder knew they had a "Shai-level player" when they got him...my guess is they hope someone develops into one and if not, they make a huge deal (they have the assets) when a star inevitable becomes available.

Jalen is the obvious choice but I still have my doubts that he can do it consistently. Last year he was looking like McGrady out there after Sengun went down. I'd love to see him improve his game but I'm doubtful. I'm generally not a fan of pure scorers who aren't efficient so I hope he figures it out.

I do love the looks of a Green - Sheppard - Jabari - Amen - Sengun starting 5 on paper. Trading Green + picks for a stud is a possibility and would only ramp up their chances.

Note: being in the West sucks

Sometimes it's about being patient (which many fans are not good at)...there were plenty of doubters on Jaylen Brown and I think he may hold the record for most times being traded involved in hypothetical/potential deals...thankfully the C's stuck with him and are now reaping the benefits.

Yeah, I remember the Rockets were mentioned many times in the Brown trade. Would've loved to see him link up with Udoka again and render the Celtics title less with Tatum :kicksrock:

They probably didn’t, but his ascendancy is the biggest reason for their improvement. In order to say that you one see okc type improvement in the next couple years for the rockets, then you should probably have some level of confidence in who that shai-like player will be for the rockets. (Not you specifically, the Royal you)

I know that money isn’t what it used to be in the nba , but tj McConnell getting 4/45 still seems nuts when he can’t really play in the playoffs. I guess it will work out to like 6-8% of the cap over its life, so kind of makes sense, but I still get sticker shock on these lower level players way more than the max-level guys.

Say what now?

Dude was killing the Celtics. At times seemed like the Pacers best player.

Jalen Green, Amen Thompson, Reed Sheppard, Alperen Sengun, and Tari Eason for Jaylen Brown works in the trade machine

Sounds about right lol. The rumors were swirling before he signed that contract after the 2023 playoff failure. I think it was Jalen and the #4 pick (Amen) for Brown.

And how did that work out? They only played him that much because Carlisle was throwing **** against the wall with Hali out. Can he physically walk on to the court and not embarrass himself? Sure. He still can’t shoot threes or play meaningful defense, aside from being a pest. Sure he can bring energy, but his lack of shooting, size and defense will result in him never being a good player in a serious playoff team.

Whatever happened to that trade generator guy? He had the Abe Simpson avatar.
Scola and Brooks for Durant

Other than that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

Sengun is the closest thing to Jokic in the league so there's that
That is true but Jokic to Sengun is about the same as Sengun to Plumleee (take your pick)

I'd take the Jokic side of that bet but I'm bullish on Alpe's future. Don't see him regressing to Plumlee levels.
Well of course not

You're the one who said it lol. We were talking future prospects of the Rockets in the next three years.

That makes sense but seems like you're assessing Sengun from 2022/23 levels and not in the future. I'd agree today but in three years not so much. I know you love cranking out stats and looking at past data but a little intuition and game tape really could help with future projections my guy.

It seems like you are looking for a nonsensical argument just for funsies.

So saw this promo on my FB feed today.

The promo video is stupid but I'm going to watch the show. Just hope it doesn't make me start to dislike Tatum. Right now I'm at the "I appreciate your game more than most but think you are a lame person" stage with him.

You're not wrong other than the nonsensical part. Pretty brutal time for sport after getting spoiled by the summer of soccer and Olympics. Sept 8 needs to get here. Texans v. Lions Super Bowl imo.

TJ McConnell deal is only $5 mill guaranteed in the third year and ng in the 4th so I have submitted the appropriate paperwork to officially rescind my faux outrage
Yeah, it's still not a great deal, but when you are a team like Indy, it's in your best interest to slightly overpay current talent to both show the appearance of taking care of your own, and because you'll probably have to overpay to get a replacement anyway.

This thing was all the way down to page 3!

Woj retiring from ESPN and reporting and going to St Bonny's to be their basketball GM
