2024-25 NBA Thread: for the second time, somebody in Dallas hits low percentage shot that leads to a generation of conspiracy theories (23 Viewers)

Curry turning back the clock tonight.

56 points on 12 for 19 from 3.
He's been great this season and Butler seems to have rejuvenated him.

Too bad he plays with the NBA's biggest tool and for a d-bag head coach.
What’s the beef with Kerr?

Butt hurt over Taytum's playing time at the Olympics and I'm sure other stuff that has nothing to do with his hall of fame career.
I'm sure he'll get in as a coach and deserves it. His offensive innovation around Curry was brilliant.

As a player, he was a footnote. His career 3-pt% is #1 all-time, but he shot less than 2 per game. There are about 25 guys in the league today that would threaten that mark if they only shot wide open spot up 3's. His 5 rings are less deserved than even Horry's 7 as he only started a total of 33 games in his entire career, including playoffs. He was a niche role player that got lucky to play on some great teams with a couple of all-time greats.

My main issues with him as a coach are:
  • He has enabled and excused Draymond's violent behavior for about a decade because it helps his career. He has shown no integrity on this issue.
  • He typically goes on an anti-ref rant a couple of times a year. Since he's never attempted to do the job of officiating and they arent allowed to publicly respond, I thinks that's some gutless BS.
  • Yes, the Tatum Olympics thing. There was zero basketball justification for him to get DNP's. I believe it was an intentional slight and I think Kerr was dishonest when asked about it.
And no, I don't like his politics and he has chosen to use his platform to make political statements on multiple occasions. But that stuff doesn't matter that much. I'd still call him a d-bag based on the 3 points above even if he was aligned with me politically 100%.
I don’t think GM was calling his playing career Hall of Fame worthy?
I know. Just pointing out how his entire pro basketball life has been more about being in the right place at the right time than any level of greatness.

No, I'm not an idiot. I may not immerse myself in the NBA like some of you folks but I know a Hall of Fame coach when I see one.

I like his politics. He's almost always right. The guy wants sensible gun laws so innocents stop getting shot. The horror!!!!

No politics.
Yes that's the ONLY political point he's EVER made.

You can be such an *** sometimes. You are the Draymond Green of the FFA. Lots of talent but every now and then you kick someone in the nuts.

You're the petty little man holding a silly grudge over a man because he didn't play your favorite player enough. Then you just find all sorts of other things to trash the man for. What a sad existence. I don't care what you think about me....I don't want people as thin-skinned and triggered liking me.

Bron with 33/17/12 last night. Him transforming into a 1990s power forward and banging in the paint is awesome.
That was always the biggest drawback to me of the whole “add a starting center and move AD to the 4” conversation. That move shifts LeBron to the 3, which he’s less suited for. His current iteration as a super-skilled power 4 who doesn’t have to drive the whole offense is the best spot for him at this stage of his career.

This feels weird to say, but I expect the Pistons to win tomorrow against the Nuggets. Nuggets will be on a back to back and the third game of a four game road trip with a match up against the Celtics after.
I don't know. I see your line of thinking but I don't think they will have an answer for the Joker. Seems like this is the kind of game where he'll go berserk and have like a 30/12/10 type of line and manage to beat the Pistons by 4-5 points.
So like exactly an average game for him (he's averaging 29.2/12.6/10.4)
Good lord I didn't realize his stats were that good. He's amazing.

Man, I thought watching Orlando was tough, but this thread...

Well, I'm sorry, but I'm just over the constant trashing of a great coach and a damn good human being because he didn't play a certain player enough minutes in the Olympics. The guy can't mention his name without bashing him and it's tiresome. Steve Kerr is a philanthropic man who donates his speaking fees to charity and does so much to provide money for under-privileged kids who wouldn't be able to attend college absent funding.

And then I get dog cussed for defending him? I get called the Draymond Green of the FBG because I defend a coach who shouldn't be getting crapped on in the first place? Yeah, okay....

Carry on.

Just like Draymond to want kids to be more pillaged.

I could live another 3 lifetimes and never spell the word privileged right on the first try. And auto correct is useless here.

Ok. You've put me in a nice spot.

I can:
  1. Report you for coming at me personally. Seems petty, stupid and unnecessary.
  2. Defend myself and provide counter points to your arguments, and thus drag this thread into a further crap fest. I don't want to do that anymore.
  3. Say nothing and thus make you feel justified in everything you've said and let everyone think I've cowered in defeat. Don't really like this option because I'm not usually one to back down when I feel attacked or bullied.
  4. Apologize and know that we have more in common than not.
I'm going to take option 4.

Sorry I started this tangent. Shouldn't have called Kerr a D-bag. I don't like him for the reasons I've stated, but that is probably too harsh of a word. He is by all accounts a good man.

Sorry I called you an ***, @General Malaise. TBH, the Draymond comparison was a poor attempt at humor. I like you much better than him.

I'll do my best to contain my distaste for Kerr and the non-Draymond Warriors going forward.

Love and appreciate this thread, this board and all that I've learned around here through the years. It is a fun place and I'll try to keep the mucking it up to a minimum from now on.

You two. My god :lmao:

They are the Draymond Green and Jordan Poole of this thread!

This is just a joke please don't get mad at me.
Can I at least be KD?

Correct me if I am misremembering, but didn't you get sucker punched during a basketball game?
I got punched coming toward a kid to take his ball away who may or may not have been a minor because he started threatening me and threw my ball to the other end of the court because I told him I wasn't going to let him and his friend play 1 on 1 on one of three open goals in a gym with like 30 people shooting around.

Likewise, I have no interest in reporting you nor anybody, certainly not in here. You're not the first person to curse at me here, there or anywhere and I know I provoked it out of you. All good, let's just agree to apologize to one another and walk away knowing you have hard feeling for Kerr and I'm a Kerr fan.

Happy Friday!

Yeah him not winning the MVP this year is going to look bad in retrospect imo. Happy for Shai assuming the current odds hold but Jokic is the best player alive by a decent margin

Will look better than the Embiid one.

Maybe we can work out a deal where Embiid gives SGA his award and Jokic wins this one.

Meh. It'll look like Barkley winning in 93 over Jordan (with Hakeem in the middle) but better than Rose winning in 11 over Lebron (with Howard in the middle). He is playing the second best ball in the NBA this year for the best team in the NBA. I agree that Jokic deserves it as he is unequivocally the best player, similar to Jordan and Lebron, and he is probably having his best season of his career, but I do think it is fair to give significant credit to the best player on the best team when he is better than the rest of the field other than the best player in the NBA.

The MVP that people will remember Jokic getting hosed for is the Embiid MVP.

Not that this is a surprise to anyone, but Sixers make it official and shut down Embiid for the rest of the season.

The only bad thing about Steve Kerr is he named his son Nick. Sounds kinda racist imo
Well, he does play Podz more than Kuminga... Obviously I'm joking but that is a reason that some people in the Bay cite as why Kuminga doesn't play more (when he's healthy).

The Warriors are my second team and this has bugged me for the last few seasons.

The Warriors act like they love Kuminga, but don't play him enough. A lot of the teams in league seem to have interest in trading for Kuminga, but the Warriors won't deal him either. It seems really dumb.

lol if Jokic had won in 23 then that would have been a hosing.

A few dummies voting can change things, but not that year.

Embiid- 73 votes
Jokic- 15 votes

Wasn't even remotely close.

Can't believe that Miami couldn't get Kuminga thrown into the Butler deal instead of Slo-Mo.

Also Miami royally screwed up the Butler thing. They could have gotten a decent haul in the offseason but no, they get 3 negative value salary guys in Wiggins, Slo-Mo, and Mitchell, and will get like the 20th pick in this year's draft. So terrible

It wasn't close. Jokic had 14.9 WS to Embiid's 12.3

He won vecause a few members of the media used their platforms to campaign for him

Looks like Orlando is shutting Jalen Suggs down. So by my count, Paolo/Franz/Suggs played 4 games together.

In the wise words of one Jon Taffer:

Shut it down!

How awesome does the West look for playoff match ups. I expect it to go like this.

OKC vs Dal/Sac/LAC kind of snooze

Den/Mem vs GS/Minn both these series in whatever combo could be awesome. The higher seed should be the favorites, but I wouldn't be shocked if GS or Minn advanced.

LAL vs Hou this should be a good series and maybe the start of a rivalry between. Luka's Lakers and this young Houston team. Edge to the Lakers because of playoff experience.

OKC vs LAL/Hou would be fun either way, but I kind of want a Luka vs OKC rematch.

It doesn't matter which two teams out of the bottom four would make it. It would be a lot of fun. Steph vs Jokic, sweet. Den vs MIN rematch, yes please. JA vs Edwards great. Etc.

East just looks like the Pistons and everyone else! Lol

Really need the Clippers to fall out of the 6th seed, don't wanna waste a first round series on them.

I expect the Warriors or Twolves or maybe both to pass them.
Don't think progress in that direction will be made tonight. The Lakers are pretty banged up, I don't know that they'll pose much of a challenge for the Clippers - particularly given Luka's current shooting difficulties, if he even plays.

The first half went as I expected with the Nuggets coming out strong and the Pistons battling back. I didn't expect the Nuggets to be able to do it again to start the 3rd and the Pistons weren't ready. Good lesson for the young Pistons.

Derrick Rose got 113 out of 121 first place votes in 10-11.

A weak 23/17/15 tonight.

Let me give KA some advice next time we face Boston start Hunter. Don't wait to be down huge to bring him in.
