college football is the greatest
Blows away the NFL badly these days.
No.
Please…..the NFL has been utter trash this season….worst season I think I have ever seen in my 50 years of watching NFL football.

Watered down sterile crap for the most part.

Thank god the post season is here because the regular season was trash.
The PSU QB can barely complete a ten yard pass and his team is arguably one of the best in the NCAA. Meanwhile, the NFL just had one of its best draft classes in history (looks like we may have six viable starters drafted, Bowers, Nabers, and Thomas look like studs for years to come, Verse is incredible, and the OTs all hit) and Lamar, Allen, and Barkley had other-worldly seasons and teams like the Lions, Chiefs, Bills and, to a lesser extent the Ravens, Vikings, and Eagles are all playing great football each week.

Don't get me wrong, this college game is exciting and entertaining, but your subjective opinion that the college game is greater than the NFL is objectively wrong. With the NIL and player movement, the college game in the minor leagues to the NFL's major league.

Objection! Sorry, couldn’t help myself.

I have drifted away from the NFL and their three commercials, long replays, Incredibly poor coaching and time management.

I can’t think of a single the NFL does better.

Redzone channel for NFL is the greatest invention in all of sports. College football needs to invent a Redzone.
I think you have a calling. Will you answer? Will you?!?!

The NFL is turning into a league of running quarterbacks who can’t read a defense.

Passing numbers have been trending down for nearly a decade.

That was a wonderful game.

And at the end of the day these are just kids. The love and hate they get is tough. Especially the Penn State QB. Kids make mistakes and other kids make plays.

That game represented why we love sports. The agony and the ecstasy.
Christian Gray is such a likable kid and emblematic of your comment.

He started the year opposite All American Benjamin Morrison and gets picked on routinely. Morrison gets hurt and he has to step up, but instead freshman Leonard Moore steps in and takes over as alpha and Gray continues to get picked on.

Come USC game we had to win to get in and all day SC is throwing on him and succeeding. Then…pick six. He sealed that win. He played well against Georgia, but tonight he makes that huge pick to get the ball back and eventually end it. So happy for him to finally see his efforts pay off.

They used to have it. Stopped during the pandemic.

Is there anything like RedZone for college?

Yes, ESPN had "Goal Line", which was a quasi-Red Zone type thing. It aired from 2010-2019. It was killed off in 2020 during the pandemic closures.

After that first half, I hopped on the exercise bike hoping it would somehow bring the Irish some luck. Every time it swung back towards Penn State, pumped up the difficulty.

An hour and fifty minute ride later... damn my legs are going to be dead tomorrow!

Whew, what a game. Thumbs up to the Penn State fans, you guys had a great season and this was a very even game that could have gone either way.

Really sad that the SEC Facebook fan page blocked me.

I guess it’s probably better if Texas beats OSU for ND. Both will be very tough for them, but OSU’s passing game works better against the ND pass D.

This must be the funniest thing in the world to northern Illinois fans
As a ND fan and a MAC grad, good for NIU. ND didn’t show up that day. Probably the wake-up call they needed. I don’t think they would have made the playoffs with 2 losses, one being NIU.
And conversely, I don't think ND gets this far without the NIU loss. Something about both the loss itself, and who it was to, galvanized the team. Watching Wake up the Echoes series, you really see how much it played a role in their psyche for the rest of the season and became Freeman's "Remember the Alamo."

Was Penn State playing for the fake here? Why do they have 2 guys 14 yards back on a 4th and 8 game winning kick with 12 seconds left? :lmao:
The replies in that thread are worth the price of the click. Not sure which is better, "there's 11 out there dummy", or "if they rush all 11, it will surely be a fake."

Don't like any of the 4 remaining teams going into last night, that said...

-What a game! Maybe I've seen better college football games with more 1st round sure fire hits involved but this was an old school game that had a lot to offer last night
Big plays at key moments and a lot of heavy hitting defense yet they still managed to combine for 51 points

Definitely the 1st Half was Penn State, they had 2 long drives, got 10 points and that ate up a big chunk of the 1st Half
Notre Dame owned the 3rd Q and frankly the 2nd Half was one of the more exciting halves of college football you'll see all season, fantastic ending, someone had to win the game

Great effort both teams, no reason to hang your head and the fans at home got more than their money's worth.
Booth was solid with Sean McDonough doing the play by play, he got into it as much as we did at home, thought he did an excellent job calling the game

Football fan POV that had no betting interest or cares for either team, very entertaining brand of football last night, felt like a college football game should feel.
I never thought I was watching the "Orange Bowl" but I thought it was well played

Marcus Freeman is a terrible coach
sports should stop letting teams have fans
:goodposting:
What would monday morning talk radio do???
fire the equipment manager
I'll own it. He has proven me wrong. His early seasons in game management was very poor. I wasnt over him only having 10 players on defense for two goalline plays against ohio state.
well, the d-coordinator and d-line coach are responsible for getting the right personnel out there in that situation. HC has a billion things going on, voices in his headset, clock to consider. they have packages of plays/players that fit situations.

HC is the lightning rod for everything but the coordinator and position coach are responsible for those mistakes.

Going to call it now, especially if things play out tonight as many expect with a tOSU win. Should that happen and we get Notre Dame vs. Ohio State for the title, some writer will quickly work to make the comparison between that game and the 2003 National Championship game between Ohio State and Miami, ironically with Ohio State this time playing the Miami role.

It's too apt of a comparison with one NFL laden group coming in with a likely fair heavy favored lens and another a midwest school anchored on power football with a gutsy but non NFL caliber QB and a solid RB. Couple that with Freeman being a Tressel player and mentee and it's just a matter of time before someone realizes that and that article is written.

I get it, and one play sure... But knowingly not having 11 players on field for two plays in a row is hard to excuse. I believe it was technically 3 plays in a row because one was a hurry up spike.

The game swung when the backup qb led ND to a FG right before half.

So Beck is in the transfer portal...he can still go back to UGA if he wants right? Is there a reason they wouldn't pay him to stay?
He could, but the rumor is Miami. Makes more sense to beat up on ACC teams to improve draft stock.
Miami opens up with ND next season.
That would be a fun one. I think Beck is still decent. His WRs at Georgia were real bad this year.
His replacement I think has a better arm, I'm sure Georgia was concerned about him leaving, so they let Beck go.

Not saying it would be the wisest use of the players, but maybe they are playing for the chance to pick up the ball if it's blocked and return it for a touchdown to end the game?

I've got OSU winning it all but might back that bet -6 tomorrow if I can find an avenue. IMO, Ohio State is in a different solar system than these teams.
DK has 8.5

FanDuel has -140
Bet365 -130

Bovada still has OSU -6 tonight.
My parents are in Vegas and I just asked them to place a very significant bet for me on Ohio State to cover. Texas is going to get murdered.

I think that's wise. I just don't think Texas played anybody this year and when they did, they lost or got taken to OT. If the team we watched pulverize Oregon shows up, Texas is in trouble. And spare me the 'it's a home game for Texas' angle.....Ohio State travels better than any team in the country, in my experience. Plus, there's a metric crap ton of Ohio State grads who live in DFW. If you went to the Oregon/OSU game in Arlington back in '15, it was 4-1 red to green/yellow easily.

I read and posted pretty early this morning lol. The odds I posted are for the championship

Yeah, I'm sitting on -130 to win it all.

When I was in Michigan and could bet on college sports legally (screw you, Oregon politicians) I was about to place a chunk on OSU +EV but chickened out and backed my Ducks. Whomp whomp.

I have the largest bet I've ever made, by far, on Ohio State to cover. But how one sided everyone feels on the line is the first thing that has made me worried as these obvious lines with all the regular schmucks like us on the same side often end in disaster. Thankfully I'm playing with a lot of house money since the CFP started.

Herbstreit really called it last night before the game.

"The difference in this game will be a critical turnover late in the game. Notre Dame will get it. And like they've done all year, that will be the difference, they will turn into points. I'm going with Notre Dame."

Freeman has really figured this out. Much, much respect regardless of the outcome of the next one.

When we lost to NIU, people died laughing that he called NIU’s coach to learn what he was doing wrong. ND fans to non-fans laughed at the person in his role behaving that way. Humbling himself to learn and then fix things is a mighty fine lesson for all of us.
Fun fact - my wife went to HS with NIU's coach. She was a year older and was FB manager while he was playing.

100% AGREE!!!
Unsung hero, we were discussing it this morning after tennis and a cup of coffee

I still can't get over this play. The balance initially and then the determination. All while being clearly hobbled with one leg and still fighting through it.

Watch Greathouse (#1) on it too. He gives an, "Aww shucks, we'll get them on 2nd down" reaction and then turns like, "Wait, he scored?!?"

The Greathouse TD will rank very highly in ND lore also.
