2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (1 Viewer)

LMAO Coach Prime wastes 16 seconds before calling a TO. Not sure why they added 4 seconds back. He called it with 11 left. (Yeah, I'm watching a little delayed right now)

So I know the answer is ‘ there is no plan’ but what is the plan for Deion when his son and Hunter leaves after this year? Stay at Colorado and continue to not recruit and go 2-10 without his top-5 picks? Try to go somewhere else? Who would even have him, the word is out. When will Colorado be tired of paying him to not have success? I guess the crowds are still there. Pretty fascinating situation.

Northern Illinois >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Western Illinois, apparently
NIU>ND>A&M
NIU>ND>A&M>McNeeseSt

C'mon. We've learned by now that the transitive property doesn't work in college football.

McNeese would have a good chance against the Irish.
My original post was because Western lost to Indiana by 74 points, and may be the worst team in FBS/FCS combined. Maybe even D-II.

I guess it depends on how much they value the publicity he brings (good and bad). I'm seeing something like a $13.7 buyout after this year. He could go the Urban Meyer Special route also.

I can see see him bailing. Can't you?

I’d be shocked if he doesn’t. But to where?

Small school if he wants to coach. Otherwise, out.

He's already said Shadeur is going to pull an Eli Manning in the draft.

The most entertaining would be Dallas lets Dak walk, hires Sanders, and drafts Shadeur.

Lagway looks like a difference maker for UF.
He looked really good. I wonder where he will be playing next year. Georgia?Alababama?

I'm pretty certain Florida only gave Napier a 3rd year for Lagway. Will be interesting to see if he bolts once they ditch Napier. And by interesting I mean probably tearful and heartbreaking.

Lagway + Etienne would've been fun to watch even with 8 losses.

Might should have sold my Ducks/Bucks' tickets a few weeks ago for absurd dollars....this game might be a very good one after all. Jesus Oregon looks languid.

USC shut out perennial powerhouse Utah State last night. I couldn't remember the last time they had a shut out, so I had to look it up. 2011. That's a long damn time.

It is still too early in my opinion to draw any conclusions with confidence, but it appears that the new defensive coaching staff and scheme is paying off. The Trojans looked much improved against an LSU offense with quite a few weapons, and looked downright fantastic last night against Utah State. And while Utah State may be a cupcake, their quarterback started for Utah last year and beat the Trojans.

We’ll see if the defensive success can continue as they take on tougher opponents. But it’s worth noting that D’Anton Lynn took a UCLA defense that was ranked 89th in total defense in 2022, and improved them to no. 11 in just a single season. If he can do anything close to that with USC’s mess of a defense (just getting them to average would be a win) he’ll easily be one of the best coaching hires of the offseason.

Tulane just got absolutely jobbed. Scored what would have been the TD that sends us to overtime, but taken away by a pure BS OPI.
Near text book OPI. Yes the defense initiated contact, but the WR was not running a route and was only there to block the DB.

The non-called DPI was not enough. I don't expect either call to be on the officiating review tape this week.

i hope wisconsin looks better against south dakota than it did against western michigan take that to the bucky bank bromigos
Thin D line, spotty QB play (at Wisconsin? No way), no real offensive identity or "playmaker" threat (jury is still out on Trech though)...whatever happens vs SD will pale in comparison to the vile crimes that Alabama, Oregon and the like will perform on them.

Not the Oregon team that showed up last week....egad.

Before this past weekend, Oregon was favored at home against OSU. Now they are a 1 point dog.

I can see why....

I'm going to try and be reasonable about what I saw against Idaho and remember that Oregon put up a bunch of yards, first downs and defensively, played very well for most of that game. A trick play and failure to tackle in the open field a few times got 'em, but by and large the defense did their job. Clean up the penalties on the OL, execute a little better in the run game, change James' cleats, make your field goals and I think things would have looked a lot better for them. I think if they play a clean game, they beat Boise St. by 20 tomorrow night and the Idaho game becomes a distant memory.

And, I'm also telling myself that Alabama almost lost to South Florida or some such before making it to the playoffs, so.....these are kids. Funky outcomes in games will happen.

If @MAC_32 is interested in some more action, I’d lay the points against Boise State.
Thanks, but I'm good with $50. Gathering quotes for some significant house work, so the wife asked me to reset the gambling budget for football season. Per week budget is now $250, so 5U cap dropped to $50. Nice not having a vig with this one though.

Please thank your wife for me! I missed big time on this one.

What the hell is going on up there?!?

The Offensive Line - which was supposed to be a bright spot - has been lousy. And this QB, who might be shorter than the water fountain at your elementary school, just sucks. He isn't a pro level QB and he knows it, which is why he is on college number 3. This team got drunk on its own press clippings but is now sobering up to the reality that they just aren't as good as they thought they were.

I haven't wagered on a college football game since January but I'm thinking about taking a road trip up north to the casino and putting several hundred on Oregon State this weekend. On the line and on the money line.

I thought this SEC Shorts was well done. They get these out pretty quick. I cracked up a little at the end.

Nervous about Texas' trip to the Big House. Obviously UMich is a completely different team this year with no Harbaugh, no JJ, no Corum... but their defense will still fly around and Quinn Ewers just makes me nervous sometimes. UT's D should be able to stifle whatever offense UMich has, but I sense a small letdown after a solid Week 1 performance. Maybe I'm overthinking it. And, hate the 9am PT start. Wish it were an afternoon affair here on the Left Coast so I could go to a sports bar or something to kick back a couple cold ones. Drinking at 9am for me is just... :oldunsure:
This is the same MI defense as years past. They're good, but not elite. I think Ewers and team will have no problem moving the ball on them. Might see Johnson with an interception, but overall I think Texas wins this by double digits. MI offense looks too one dimensional with the running game. Until they can find a QB that can throw the ball, they'll keep trying to pound it on the ground. Too bad their OL isn't the same as previous years. It's pretty suspect too.

They had one of, if not the best defense in the country last year. The starters this year are equal, just don't have the crazy depth they had last year.
Last year, yes that defense was elite. No doubt about it. But this isn't last year's defense. I'm not saying they're not good - I'm saying they're not elite like last year. I think that Texas offense is more than that defense can handle. I don't see a 51-6 blowout by the Longhorns, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a 31-13 score with Texas walking out of there with the W.
I think you're over-selling last year's group. There were only three picks inside the top 100 - #'s 49, 50, and 69 (hey-o!). Not 100% but I believe all of the defenders lost to the portal were FR. There should not be a big dropoff on D, but this unit is more vulnerable if health breaks unfavorably.
I think @swabs did the overselling, I just went along with his wording/labelling. However, if there wasn't too much of a dropoff from last year to this year, how did Saturday happen? I get the offense is not good - like at all - but Texas walked all over that defense. If there are still good players on that defense, and they were healthy, then MI is in for a very long season. I see more losses vs USC, Washington, Oregon, and Ohio State. Maybe a couple more depending on how health shakes out.

I can't make it through 30 seconds of these. Am I the only one who finds these insipid?

LOL. Now Deion to doesn't want the CU band to play the fight song when Shedeur throws a touchdown. Instead, he wants Shedeur's rap song played. Maybe they should have played Shedeur's song after the Pick 6.

Feel like every opposing band should learn that song to play when he has a turnover.
I like Nebraska's decision regarding Sanders' song better.

They played it in the locker room after the game

:lmao:

I have to admit I’m a little impressed at the amount of effort that must go in to turning these around so quickly.

I know some of the guys behind these, they are great. Intentionally cheesy, but yes I can see how they could be grating (pun wasn't intended until I saw it coming, then yes sadly intended and left).
