2024 Philadelphia Eagles - First one was for the fans. This one was for the team. Next one is for the legacy. (9 Viewers)

I believe Hurts is really bringing us down. With our running game and even Trent Dilfer, I think we would be crushing teams. Though I want to make sure Im not being too bent out of shape on Hurts.

I've seen enough analysis and All-22 film from analysts that consistently question the routes being run in the passing game to think there's more to it than just Hurts. AJ, Devonta, and Dallas didn't forget how to run routes correctly. They are running what's drawn up, and the schemes just aren't working to get them open or (quickly) in position to make something happen.

It seems like when the passing game stalls there are some "easy" plays being called that do those things, then we go right back to receivers running routes right into the same space and Hurts has nowhere to go with the ball, and things spiral from there.
The after the catch weapons that the Eagles possess should make the play-calling easier. Seems some quick slants to either WR should be effective in the middle of the field. Barkley himself doesn't need an abundance of blocking to exploit the screen game. And all three of Goedert, Brown and Smith seem to be able to break free on deep routes. Not sure where the problem is unless Hurts just can't get them the ball so they can run with it.

We have been calling for more slants for like 3 years it seems. You are correct, we just don't call them for various reasons, mainly bc it really seems Jalen will not/hates/is scared to throw over the middle often.

It’s the sum of many parts. Hurts is a single read QB who struggles with zone defenses. So when you see guys breaking down tape and looking for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th option most times it’s irrelevant. He’s reading the defense pre snap and most times going to who he thinks will have the coverage he desires.

Many, many times he has underneath guys but he doesn’t seem to process quick enough to get to them timely. There was a LOT of them open this past weekend.

Any OC would be limited with him which is why you see a lot of the same complaints under 3 NFL OC’s and various college ones as well. With all that said he’s obviously good enough to win big games but this is the ideal offense for him.

But I know for a fact Shane Steichen had him into 2nd/3rd reads in 2022. I don't know how why where what or when, but I know he had it happening.

How/if we can get back to there seems like hoping more than anything at this point, but there is something that he was doing that Jalen loved and we have BETTER weapons now.

As far as I remember he’s been primarily a single read type of QB. I think the biggest thing that helped Hurts was having Shane for 2 years

**ETA**

Saying he’s single read isn’t necessarily a knock either. If you have a good call and read the defense correctly it can work and has for him in the past. Hurts’ biggest issues to me are processing time.

He held the ball way too long last game. Weather im sure played a part but he cant take that many sacks. I still cant believe they even called a pass in our own endzone after he got hurt which turned into a safety.

Honest question - are we winning games because of Hurt's play or in spite of Hurt's play?

... yes I know he ran for a TD, yay!
I think in spite. Without the defenses play or Barkley we lose wildcard weekend. If we are to win a SB this year he needs to step up. Even if we have the great D I think without Barkley at all this year we aren’t winning as many games as we did and having an entirely different discussion right now.

We're winning despite some poor decision making from Hurts, a struggling passing offense in general (where the fault is spread out amongst Hurts, Sirianni, and Moore), and a shaky kicker. However, all the teams left have their own things wrong that they have been able to win in spite of, too.

Maybe we can outrun the consequences of some/all of those things for one (or two) more games. But it's a good bet that the next loss we take will be involve those flaws.
Our defense has been carrying us. Im not too worried about Elliot, he has been more mortal than usual. I toss out any missed kicks from this past weekend, but yea he hasnt been perfect.

I had a discussion with someone on McNabb and then someone in eagles Reddit made a post asking if Hurts was as good as McNabb. On his best day Hurts isn’t as good as McNabb. McNabb had his flaws but better passer and more athletic and won games with a trash group of WRs. Put McNabb on this team and even 22 SB year I think we are dominating teams.

Hurts overall consistency or lack there of as a passer holds this offense back from being elite.

I will politely wish you Eagles fans good luck while every bone in my body violently disagrees with the sentiment.
Good luck to you guys as well. Heck of a season for you all. Amazing what a cancer Snyder was and how quickly you guys put it together.
Yeah. I am already thrilled with the season. All this post season stuff is just gravy. I still want to keep eating though.

I think, so we can all end the season happy, we should be pulling for an Eagles win then. 😉

Re-watching the Rams game. On the safety, Goedert was wide open over the middle and Hurts hesitated on the throw and got sacked.
iirc that was right after Hurts came out of the blue tent after he got rolled up in the previous series. don't think Hurts was all there, mentally and physically. at the time I blamed the play call, should have just handed it off because of the injury and not risk further contact.

Wtaching it again too. When they got to the one after the fumble, why no bro shove with barkley? They should be able to run that with multiple guys

I don't want to watch this last 4:36. LOL!

Yeah but we no how it ends

I thought jalen was moving ok after the injury. I think hes gonna be fine for the game

Yeah, he did that roll out pass to DeVonta and landed on the left leg and looked fine. Plus he did a tush push so I think they were just being cautious with it last Sunday. He's probably really sore today, by Sunday he should feel tons better.

The last drive we had was bad playcalling by us and our oline really had probs with that undersized rams line. They beat them alot.

Hurts and Q both were limited participants in today’s walkthrough and are expected to play Sunday.

Goedert (Ankle) and Jurgens (Back) were DNPs which is concerning. We’ll see what they do in tomorrow’s full practice.

all the sports shows are just gushing all over washington.
hope we just crush them. ala the vikings/ 49ers the past couple nfc championships
Yeah but they should be. Its a great story, 2nd over all pick to 2nd game from the Super Bowl. At least Half of America roots for underdogs.
Agree on both accounts. They’ve had a great season but the level media and everyone are worshipping them has the hype at an extreme level. Would love to come out with the chip on our shoulder and see the passing game click.

Agree here. My biggest X factor concern honestly is Ekeler. He is a pro route runner and we got Burks probably on it, assuming Baun is going to get some spy work.

im sure he will have some moments but we all know we should have won that last game with them. i think we win by 2 scores. hopefully more comfortable than the last 2 playoff games

Ekeler didn't play the last game, its kind of what I'm getting at. We handled him OK round 1 with Nakobe in there, but we don't know how/who will defend him. He had 8 catches last game vs Detroit.

I have a few concerns with our IOL too. They haven’t looked great the first two games. We need them to control the LOS completely this week.

I believe we have better and healthier backups than we did in '17 & '22. While these injuries to various starters are a bit worrisome, they are not yet terribly concerning to me. Not yet. We are aware of their ailments and that the players are doing what is needed to overcome them. They will. The Eagles will. One way or another. I view missed practices as body wellness days at this point in the season.

Agree here and we have to sort of remember that while Jason Kelce was great/maybe the greatest of All Time and Jurgens has filled in well, C is the least important position along the line, for the most part. I think if Jurgens has to miss a game, plugging in Gates for a game who has...40 career starts and also played FOR the Commanders in 2023, I think we should be OK.

No practice for jurgens

Add the fact that they signed a vet to PS yesterday that can play all 5 OL positions, and this doesn't bode well for him playing Sunday.

Not cool but dickerson can play center
I posted in another thread but the eagles typically don’t shuffle Olinemen around. If Jurgens can’t play then they’ll start Nick Gates and keep everyone else where they belong. No reason to take a hit at two spots.
