2024 Philadelphia Eagles - First one was for the fans. This one was for the team. Next one is for the legacy. (5 Viewers)

Last day here in CR, wore a different Eagles hat every day so far. Met one KC fan, lol he had an all black murderer out Chiefs hat on he had to point it out to me. I was just like “not that confident eh?” And he puttered away.

Two nights ago, some old dude in a walker comes up to our table “Ya know I shouldn’t rooting for the Eagles”

Cowboys fan?

“No, Giants”

HAHA THABK YOU SO KUCH FOR SAQUON WE ARE REALLY SHOWING PEOPLE HOW TO USE HIM CORRECTLY - GO BIRDS!

He just then kinda shimmied away without a word.

First thought that popped into my head when I awoke this morning: If they lose this game with any questionable play or decision making from Hurts and/or Sirianni, I am not looking forward to the next 6 months of Eagles discourse.

Need a win even more now!
Eh, rather deal with it than not have that off-season chatter amongst Eagles fans. I kind of consider it a necessary evil. Eagles discourse every off-season, for whatever reason, here in the SP, can get salty (Eagles fans) and nauseating (Eagles haters, Eagles Fans haters.....) at any time. Anyway, no matter how "bad" it gets there is always someone that brings joy. Other team threads are visited/posted-in very little while the Eagles thread(s) remains active all off-season because of their fans love and devotion and numbers.

Congratulations to Saquon Barkley!!

Call me a nerd if you want, but as much as I want to see the Eagles win the Super Bowl and hear the chant "Thank you, Giants," there's something else I'd love even more. It would be incredible to hear the fans sing "Happy Birthday" to Saquon Barkley.

I would consider this a classy move, regardless who does it. But a lot of football fans at once, in a domed stadium? That would be incredible. And deserved.

Hi nerd :bye:

If we win, one of these 3 things will most likely be why:
  1. Defense handles its business. Makes Mahomes uncomfortable with pressures, keeping him contained, even a couple sacks, finally (Eagles only have 2 sacks in 4 SB appearances!) We already saw what happens when getting into a defense-optional shootout with KC.
  2. Their regression to the mean finally happens. KC has been outrunning their flaws catching up with them the entire season. Every single time they were on the brink of having a weakness or mistake cost them a game, they got the needed bounce, call, mistake by the other team, etc. to bail them out. It's obviously not sustainable forever, but at this point they only need it to sustain just one more game.
  3. Our Death Star is finally fully operational. The NFCCG was the first time all season the entire team and the coaching staff were at their best on the same day. Another game like that, where Saquon and the OLine are imposing their will, Hurts is making the right throws and keeping the ball safe, the defense getting off the field on 3rd down, Jake is nailing kicks, and the game plan is working on both sides of the ball, is likely going to mean a win.

If we lose, one of these 3 things will most likely be why:
  1. Our regression to the mean happens at the worst possible time. Jalen has one turnover since the bye, the team is +18 in turnovers since then and has 0 in the postseason. Saquon is breaking off explosive runs with regularity. Our secondary rookies are playing like all-pro vets. Our young DLinemen are giving us more than we could have expected. If any of those things finally go awry, we're cooked.
  2. Our flaws catch-up with us. Allowing late-drives when the opponent needs to score, a journeyman backup linebacker in the middle of the field, an inconsistent kicker, and a HC that will randomly do something baffling are our biggest weaknesses. Those things have all cost us to varying degrees throughout they season but our strengths were still able to get us here. Any/all of them biting us in the butt in the most important game would not be ideal.
  3. KC is just an inevitability. They are rolling toward a 3-peat for a reason and sometimes, in all eras and in all sports, you have periods where there's just a team that's going to rule the league. You can throw the kitchen sink at them, and even outplay them, but they still come out on top.

Official prediction: Eagles, 31-23

Our previous SB outcomes:
  • No-show blowout loss (in this very stadium)
  • Close, but not really, loss
  • Back and forth shootout win
  • Back and forth shootout loss
So I figure we're due for either a blowout win or a close, but not really, win. I think it's the latter, where we eventually have control of the game even though KC keeps it within one score (finally on the losing side) and we get to uneventfully run out the clock in victory formation.

ETA: I really had to ignore the beaten and battered lifelong Philly sports fan sitting on my other shoulder that tried to get me to go with a repeat no-show blowout in the Superdome that will cause much pain and misery for the following weeks and months.

First, in my block pool I have Eagles 1, Chief 3 so I would love for this to be the final score.

When I'm looking at the two teams things I like for the Eagles:
  • The Eagles are better in the trenches: The Chiefs have a good defensive line and Chris Jones is a beast, but the Eagles offensive line is the best in the league and is more than capable of handling Jones. The other guys on the line are undersized (compared to the Eagles guys) and big guys beat up little guys.
  • The Eagles offense can't be game planned for: What I mean is the offensive line is so big and strong, that they can run the ball against anyone. When teams try and stack the box, you get a Saquon Barkley 60 yard run. The way to stop the Eagles is to be more physical. Either you can or you can't, but the coaches can't call a play to do it, it has to be within the players. The Steelers did the best job of being physical, but that only lasted maybe a quarter and a half. I don't follow KC enough, but I don't think they'll be able to out physical Philly.
  • Strength v. Strength: KC likes to play more man than zone. Hurts is great against man defenses because AJ Brown is a man coverage dominator. Either you'll see AJ Brown have an MVP type day if KC goes/stays in man, or you'll see Hurts have like 16 carries for 120 because the Chiefs load the box, go man and Hurts breaks contain and gets 30 yards a pop with KC secondary guys just running with their backs to the QB. If they go zone, Goedert will have a great game (which he might regardless of what defense KC plays since they're not good defending TEs).
  • Communication is the key: Watching how the Chiefs took advantage of the Eagles secondary in 2022, it was due to lack of communication. They would run their receiver in motion in and then when the ball was snapped he would go out and be wide open. Under Fangio, those issues appear to be solved. These guys don't miss assignments like that anymore.
  • Turf: This is a turf field so it's a fast track. I think that favors the Eagles more, especially a guy like Barkley when he gets into open space.
  • Home field advantage?: Stub Hub is reporting a 70% of their secondary ticket sales are from Pennsylvania, I'd expect a Philly heavy crowdI was in that dome (for Nick Foles last playoff game) it can get so loud you can't hear the person next you talk. If this a pro-Eagles crowd, I'd expect a few more pre-snap penalties for KC.
Things I like for KC:
  • Patrick Mahomes/Reid: These guys are a winners. Reid is capable of finding weakness in the Eagles D and exploiting it. Mahomes is capable of pulling off a win if the Chiefs defense can somehow slow the Eagles. If it's close, he'll find a way.
That's it, I don't see any other advantages for KC. They don't have a great run game so they'll be one dimensional. Their passing game is a bunch of dink and dunk. They don't have an efficient RZ offense (Philly D is good in RZ). I can see a bunch of drives like the first WAS drive in the NFCCG where they go 10-12 plays, use up 6-7 minutes and get 3 points. Defensively, they are middle of the pack in points per drive so the Eagles should be able to score points and sustain drives.

My score prediction for the game is 31-17 Eagles.

Did something a little different.

Favorite Eagles from the past 25 years. https://www.footballguys.com/article/2025-top-20-philadelphia-eagles-of-the-2000s

Without looking. Brian Dawkins would be #1 in almost every Eagles book.
They went with an absurd choice for #1
Foles? Nah he's a folk hero.

BDN!
He's like Paul Bunyan

@Joe Bryant I guess.

I checked out both articles.

I don't recognize either author name. Are these guys regular Shark Pool contributors?

More of an "eye of the beholder" type of article(s.) "Favorite" is subjective to each individual. I do not agree with the Eagles list because my "favorite" Eagles players are different.

Still, while these may not be tried & true fantasy articles, i am sure they are appreciated. Fun stuff for this time of year. It is getting kind of stagnant in here.....

Thanks @Ruffrodys05. They are a couple of our newer folks on Staff. It was mainly as you say, some fun stuff for this time of year when there was a little lag. We're working hard on Dynasty content and hope to have something big to announce early next week but for non fantasy articles, I thought these were fun. Just not sure how much interest there was.

Tim McManus and Kapadia were on Shial podcast the other day she talked about this. Essentially it’d be we gave you all these weapons and an OC and you still didn’t come through so what’s the excuse now for Hurts. For Nick it’s more can he win the big game. But didn’t delve into it. Both talked about HC/QB relationship. Tim mentioned some has been mended but he doesn’t want to speculate what Hurts thinks of Nick really do to how well things are going and insinuated one really bad move we’re back to square 1.

Tim mentioned also how the players love Nick and personal notes. Mentions Isiah rodgers first start how Rodgers got a note and meant a lot. Jordan Maliata said shortly after last SB in 22 his dad was going home and has a heart attack on the plane. Didn’t know if he’d make it but did. Jordan said Nick was there for him every moment, told him take as much time needed and if he had to go home for awhile keep him notified and how he and team could help. Players seem to love have personable Nick is with them and how Nick was willing to adapt and allow others to make decisions where Pederson wasn’t. One of the big reasons Eagles kept Nick was these things.

But yeah both said if Nick and Hurts don’t perform well the questioning if they are the guys will be warranted

Watching Brian Baldinger breakdown the KC defense against the RPO. Let's just say, Saquon is going over 100 yards. Their LBs aren't fast enough to get to the edges and the DEs just get eaten up by blocks. Also, Hurts is going to have a day because the coverage guys are all running with their backs to the QB.

Mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Becton, and Johnson will feast. I'm sorry if I have a starter wrong or if one is out.

I honestly expect the Eagles defense to give the Chiefs fits much like Tampa did years ago.

The two slight concerns I have about the OLine:

- Becton is very beatable in pass protection. I think on obvious passing downs, Chris Jones will go at him every time.

- Fingers crossed Jurgens and Dickerson are full healthy, and not just “it’s the Super Bowl, I’m playing no matter what” healthy.

Great points! It's fascinating that you brought up Mekhi Becton. I'm still grappling with how underwhelming his performance was in the Jets' offense. Standing at 6'7" and weighing 365 lbs, he used to play tackle and is now a guard. It's truly impressive how he has transformed this past season. I believe he has a lot of pride and could be facing the biggest challenge of his career against Chris Jones.

I love Baldy. I learn something every time I watch his breakdowns.

He called Philly as the best team in the playoffs and said they would go 4-0. He’s sticking with his pick in the SuperbOwl.

As a Birds fan, I have an eerie, unusual sense of calm about this game. I feel really confident the Eagles are gonna win. It wouldn’t surprise me if they controlled the game from the beggining and put it on the Chiefs.

I know it’s the Chiefs and all they do is pull out wins. I know they’re a solid team that plays fundamentally sound football, protects the ball well, tackles extremely well and are extremely well-coached.

I think Jalen balls out again. Nick and Kellen designed a super conservative gameplan that took advantage of a historic run game after the bye. The straight jacket is off. And Saquon is just an unbelievable talent, running behind arguably the best Oline in football.

Did the ‘22 Eagles Super Bowl season not have many memorable highlights or moments, or did the SB loss make them forgettable? The butt-kicking we gave to SF in the NFCCG jumps out and then…?

Feels like ‘24 has just as many, if not more, than ‘17 and it would be tragic if a loss relegates them to faint memories.

A win cements all those special moments in Philly lore.

Kellen Moore expected to become the Saints head coach after the Super Bowl.

I guess the money was good enough to tank your first head coaching job.

I’d probably do it, too. The money is such a huge difference. Even though the Saints’ HC gig seems like purgatory.

Not crazy about Patillo (sp?) but that’s for next year’s thread

Per Scheftar

Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is expected to become the New Orleans Saints' head coach, barring any unexpected developments, league sources told ESPN. Moore has been the top candidate for the vacant Saints job since completing a pair of interviews with New Orleans last month. The Saints are making sure they do everything by the book so as not to break any rules and risk any potential penalties. New Orleans learned from the lesson of the Arizona Cardinals, who were penalized for tampering with then-Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who they eventually hired as their head coach.

Stoutland University is a real thing.

All this except you can’t bet against the chiefs.

Anyone have any suggestions for fun longshot bets / parlays for the game today? One that I found and put a couple bucks on was Saquon first carry for a TD boosted to +6650. May throw a few bucks on some longshot anytime or first TD scorers. Haven’t found a bet for a missed XP yet. :bag:

I just feel like Dotson is going to have one of those unsung moments from guys coming out of no where. In 22 Quez dropped an easy TD. Dotson isn't dropping that same pass if they throw it.

Not sure what is available, but I like Eagles team rushing at 40+ attempts and 200+ yards. Something like;
Saquon 24 rushes 139 yards
Jalen 10 rushes 54 yards
Kenneth 7 rushes 28 yards
Will 2 rushes 5 yards

I like reading this:

History hasn’t been kind to the losers. Since 2000, only the Denver Broncos (2014-16), New England Patriots (2018-2019) and Los Angeles Rams (2019-2022) have made it back to the Super Bowl within three years of losing one. All three teams went on to exorcise their demons by winning the Lombardi Trophy in their next appearance and becoming a rare part of history.

I felt like Slim Reaper 70+ rec yards was a good one to combo with Eagles ML and the over. He’s never caught less than 90 yards against KC.

Jalen Carter MVP at +7000

I had a decent chunk of winnings from last week so I made a ton of $5-10 parlays. Drunkenly made this one to use up my last $65 in winnings a few nights ago.

Eagles ML
Over 48.5
Saquon 40 rec yards
Jalen 250 passing yards
Davonta 70 rec yards
AJ, Hurts, Barkley & Worthy anytime TD

Pays $100k. Pray for mojo.

One of Dotsons weaknesses is making that easy catch consistently. Was known for making a lot of difficult catches but having the dropsys on should be made daily catches
