2024 Philadelphia Eagles - First one was for the fans. This one was for the team. Next one is for the legacy. (3 Viewers)

Jalen Hurts vs a top 5 defense tonight:

- 25/32 (78%)
- 290 passing yards
- 2 passing TDs
- 125.6 passer rating
- 46 rushing yards
- 1 rushing TD
- 0.35 EPA/play
- 17.1 total EPA
Steelers thought is was going to be the Barkley show, could tell early when Roberts was in on 3rd down(or 2nd and long). He cant cover, he is an against the run LB. And their corners are soft, Porter is scared to tackle anyone. Not having their SS was a loss too. And no Pickens means no WRs to worry about. I kinda knew Hurts was going to have a day, with all that made up BS about him and Brown(that was some nice media fake news). And the refs were certainly adding a few assists. But philly is good, maybe the best team in the NFC. I wouldnt mind a philly v buffalo super bowl(just no more KC Chiefs).
I'm a Steelers fan and can admit you guys outclassed the Steelers football-wise. Slay shoulda been ejected, and the head slap was before the punt, but I dont think it would have made a difference.
Eagles are miles ahead of the Steelers talent-wise, but we are least gaining. One more good draft and free agency, and Steelers might be in the top tier.
I get that, but I mean, lol, why was the guy blocking him thru the back of the end zone AFTER the whistle AND into the wall. I felt the officials did a good job of flagging folks and admit, Slay would have deserved a flag there. But I mean, refs can only help teams out so much when the yardage and TOP numbers are THIS skewed. 400+ - 170 or something and basically 40 to 20 minutes. This was a good test for the Eagles, the perfect game leading up to all the "Wow what will the Eagles do if a team decides to commit to stopping the run?" And we see the results.

The Eagles are the closest to as weakness free of a football team you can hope for. They can pass if they have to, or they will run it if they have to. Which defense currently in the NFL or at least the NFC can do both well enough to stop this team? They are also the best defense in football - in pass defense, in ppg and yards.

This team is on a mission.
Nobody is saying the refs dictated the game. That was one team exerting complete dominance on another team. But if you were in the game thread yesterday, you would have thought the Eagles were hosed by the refs (which was not at all the case).

They might be weakness free (especially if their kicker is back lol).
Didn't see a ton of that talk TBH. And it wouldn't have been true. I know a lot of folks yelled for offsetting penalties after the scrum (I didn't, see above), but overall it was a decent job for the refs.

I've always been of the mindset that the instigator should get the flag and the rest ignored unless it's significantly over the top. I realize it rarely happens that way, but I think it should....and the Pitt blocker definitely instigated that one. Conveniently ignored by some folks in the game thread is that the blocking into the wall action was in itself a personal foul (continuing action well OOB)
Looked like your boy threw a punch. Didn’t affect the outcome of the game but he should have been flagged

Love this! Shut the media up, good.

Winning is a helluva cologne. And Jalen had his best game of the year.
It seemed like the Steelers were selling out to stop the run and daring Hurts to beat them. Which he did.

A lot of teams have been doing that, and its sorta wild that the team they actually decide to let Hurts do it, was the one with the best defense. Why didn't this happen against Carolina, instead of being a dropped pass away from losing a gimme.

TBH, didnt see a punch. If he did, then yes that would qualify as something significant

Q threw a punch during the scrum at the wall. It should have been offsetting penalties. Does not matter now. Any other repercussions will come from the home office, same as the hip-drop tackle to take AJ Brown down near the end of the game. Fines will be forthcoming.

Ref's are human. Humans are fallible. Mistakes will be made. It is and always has been a part of the game. The only change I would like to see from the NFL would be to require all referees and their crew members to be full-time employees.

Full time might help a bit but they are getting paid a decent amount either way. They seem to not want to be full time.

I think the biggest change they need is a full time ref in the booth watching the replays. Then they can buzz the lead ref when a call is obvious like facemask, PI, etc. They do it now for ball spots and catches but I think they need it for certain penalties as well.

Then you get a penalty every play. I like the system the way it is.

I don't think it would be every play but when you have a guy get his whole head turned by his mask, I think that's worthy of a call down.

So here we are 2 days after the game and all the rivals got are "The Refs missed this one flag"

K.

I'll take it, what a season we are having.

First time winning IN Cincinnati, shutting down Jamarr Chase in the process, who is having an historic season.
First time winning IN Baltimore, shutting down both Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry who are both having great seasons.
First time beating Russel Wilson? Sure, why not. The Steelers are one of the best teams in the AFC and we dog walked em.
First time winning 10 games in a row in franchise history.
Cowboys season is over, but they keep on winning and further screwing up their draft position! And they might trade Micah Parsons lol. And the brass is already saying "no free agents '25"
Niners season is over, and it looks like there will be a ton of change over there.
Our biggest competition is either a team lead by Sam Darnold (who is having a great year, but has really no playoff experience) or a team that has like 400 defensive guys on IR.

3 games left!!

Micah Parson would look great in kelly green . . . just saying.

Also, there were plenty of Steelers fans who acknowledged the Eagles were a class better than them on Sunday. But that personal foul penalty that wasn't offsetting was a big momentum changer.

Eagles folk, is Elliott a solid K option this week? He nailed those 40 something yarders(after the roughing the snapper). I recall him missing some earlier this year, has he settled down?

I think we have moved on. To be clear (one last time), we were not winning that game under any circumstance (even if fully healthy). No excuses - Eagles are the better team. Refs didn’t dictate it. Maybe we meet again and things are different next time. If that happens, I’m going back to Pittsburgh to watch the game with allies lol.

I'm no kicker expert but he seems to have settled down since his rocky stretch earlier this year. Washington generally gives Philly a really tough game. Elliott is a solid option to get a few opportunities to kick FG's this week.

Oh all good. I don't consider any of the AFC teams to be true rivals though. See you guys again in maybe 4 years!

Mainly talking about those that come in to tell us how not good the Eagles are/how easy the schedule apparently always is, how bad a passer Jalen Hurts is, Jalen Carter eats children, how the tush push is cheating - a cacophony of sour grapes usually.

You guys are stand up folks all good! Good luck in the playoffs!

i actually think tampa, GB, or the rams could win some playoff games. none of those games would be easy

I don't think they would be easy games either. I do think Rams or Tampa traveling the distance and dealing with the harsher weather would have an impact though.

I don't want to see Green Bay if I'm being honest.

Current NFC Seeding chances, via ESPN Analytics:

1 seed: DET 54%, PHI 30%, MIN 16%
2 seed: PHI 70%, DET 23%, MIN 6%

Also interesting is the 5 seed: MIN 49%, GB 28%, DET 22%. SF and DAL are 0.1% to make the playoffs. :thatsashame.gif:

We're pretty much locked into the 1 or 2 at this point, with <1% chance of falling to a WC spot since the only way that could happen is if we go 0-3 and WSH 3-0 the rest of the way.

Eagles now the betting favorites to win the NFC.
Seems weird considering they need Det and Minn to lose.
Those guys still have super tough schedules and we have a really easy comparative one. I'm sure the fact we are huge favorites in ours and some of their games are toss ups is the factor.

Then again, I don't bet so what do I know.

You can see the sentiment switch even here on these boards. For the past month, fans were making the "Who's the best team after week [X]?" I said, it almost feels like Detroit fans looking for affirmation of how good their team is. Now that they've been ravaged by injury and it doesn't look like they're going to be able to overcome them, you don't see those threads this week. Even those fans know, it's all over but the crying for them.

I think it's favorite to win the NFC (and make the SB), not to get the #1 seed. And since they aren't favored to get the 1 seed right now, it means the odds makers still think the Eagles win even if they are on the road in the NFCCG.

I think they are correct. Of Detroit, Minnesota and Philly, Philly needs the #1 seed the least. But I still want it.

As a football fan, I am bitterly disappointed in the Lions’ injuries this year. We deserve to see the Lions and the Eagles play each other in the NFCCG, at full strength. That game would have been epic.

That said, you can’t count the Lions out. They’re scrappy and resilient. All of the Defensive losses are stacking, though. Hopefully, the secondary gets some ponies back for the playoffs. Losing McNeill hurts particularly badly.

And nobody is giving MIN any love. That is a strong team. And GBP are playing some of the best December football of any team in the league.

The 1 seed, the Bye and HFA are so crucial this year.

"So Hurts got to the Super Bowl twice by beating Christian McCaffrey at QB and one year wonder Sam Darnold. FRAUD!"

Here's another one from NFL Films about Larry Kehres and his impact on the Eagles. Nick Sirianni played WR for him and was pivotal in Nick's coaching.

Don’t look too far into this. Remember in 17 Wentz went down and people didn’t give us a snowballs chance in hell and we managed to win a SB. Det to me looks and feels like a similar team/situation as us then besides the fact their QB is still playing.

Minny has a strong Def tops in Rush defense. It comes down to San Darnold’s play overall though.

They've been hit way harder by injury than we were in 2017.

Yeah half our key players were out too and needed a career back up to play absolutely out of his mind to win. We did it though.

Peters, Wentz and then maybe Sproles, Maragos and Hicks. That's it.

i'm already sad it's not likely we'll have this defense together for too long since they will all demand very high salaries soon. looking at some of their contracts, we have a two year window with next year probably getting very noisy in the offseason. class of '22 Davis, Dean and potentially even Blankenship who was a UDFA all have one year left, '23 Carter and Smith, '24 Q and DeJean. That's 6 starters. Slay will be physically done soon, CJGJ is always a wild card though I think he's already signed through '26, and then Sweat & Baun don't have contracts after this season. What a year they are having together, let's get one before this band breaks up for the dough!

Your timeline should be a bit different since teams have a 5th year club option on 1st rounders.

It will look like this:

2025 - Zach Baun, Josh Sweat
2026 - Nakobe Dean, Reed Blankenship
2027 - Jordan Davis, Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
2028 - Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Cooper DeJean
2029 - Quinyon Mitchell

I Think sweat and davis wont be resigned. I hope we can keep the rest

As long as we don't lose Davis/Milton/Sweat all in the same off season, I have faith in them to replenish these guys. Really would LOVE to sign Milton long term but I think he is too expensive at this point, but I also don't have an idea on what the plan for the future is, but we definitely need a bit of more youth on the DL to be safe.

Yeah i think oline, dline, and another corner would be high off season priorities. Also hope we draft or bring in a young wr and te to go behind brown, devonta, and goedart. Seems like usually when 1 of those guys is out it really hurts the offense.
