*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: limping towards the playoffs (8 Viewers)

Probably some Pickens owners in here. In my short league he's pretty much a WR'3/Flex with upside. If your options are limited - do you start him?

If youre thin, you could do worse.

Pickens is a guy who can get you a decent week of production on three touches. He can also get you nothing on 9 targets with these QBs 😆

Fields was connecting with Pickens during the off season. As long as he is starting, will look to Pickens often especially when singled up. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when Pickens gets Patrick Surtain one on one deep.

Arthur Smith said they avoided passing in the middle of the field to avoid Atlantas best defender. Will they do the same with Surtain?

Is Surtain known to follow #1 WRs or does he stay on one side? If they have him shadow Pickens then that would influence my decision on who to start. Especially after Smith‘s comments that you rightfully mentioned.

Is Russ actually hurt or are the Steelers trying to see what they have in Fields? I may be in the minority but I think Russ gives them a better change to win.

Broncos guy, here. Surtain plays both sides equally well and historically has alternated based on defensive playcall. 1-2 times/yr he would shadow (e.g. D. Adams).

However, last week Surtain was on Metcalf for 24/25 routes and basically shut him down. Logic would say do it again this week w/ Pickett and a big dropoff. But maybe the DC feints this and plays a chess game. Hard to say.

Reported that Fautanu is starting at RT and will be rotating with Jones there. Seems like a bad idea. While this is probably Tomlin, I think our O-line coach kind of sucks.
What do you want? Moore was their best player on O last week

Pick a guy you intend to stick with the whole game unless he sucks rather than alternating series or quarters or whatever they are going to do.

Cincy also goes 0-2. Steelers defense takes us to 2-0. Chargers are staying on the E coast all week for the next game. Hope that is a mistake.

2-0... Probably have a 35% chance next week.. Playing the best D they have played to date and probably best offense.

I can see Charges front destroying our OL and Dobbins having a big game.. Hope I am wrong

Really tough to get that excited about this 2-0 start for me. This offense is even worse than I anticipated. Only 13 points against that Denver defense? 1 TD in 2 games? *Blooooeeeeertch*

I thought the offense showed improvement from last week in the first half. Scored TD, had a good drive stopped by B. Jones penalties, and ran out of time in the first half and had to settle for a FG. But the second half sucked.

1 TD in 8 quarters is not good.. It's not looking good at all.

What did anyone expect when they essentially punted the WR position in the offseason? The O line is young and will experience growing pains this year. As long as the D stays healthy, they’ll win games. That’s how dominant they are. Unfortunately we know that we can never count on that.

New offensive coordinator
New QB room
New pieces on the offensive line

Same old offense that is hard to watch.

We’ll take 2-0 for sure but the Steelers current recipe for success just isn’t going to be one that can advance far in the playoffs. But none of us are expecting a Super Bowl winner this year.

Zero turnovers. Won that battle 2-0

Fields looked poised. He threw two touchdowns (bogus penalty not holding it against fields) and handled pressure very well. I was impressed considering all the penalties and lack of WR play outside Pickens. Surtain struggled to slow him down. Shame two penalties took away his best plays.

Broderick Jones looks worse somehow. Was expecting development in year 2 despite a new OC and playbook. Hopefully he’s slow picking up concepts but slays after he gets there. Cmon big guy! Need you to step it up or ride the pine.

As good as the defense was yesterday, and they were very good, they were helped by some dropped balls by Denver receivers and so-so play by Nix.

The offense was able to move the ball but they desperately need a legitimate #2 receiver. Hopefully Roman Wilson can fill that role but it feels like a long shot at this point.

That said, with the schedule ahead it was critical to get off to a good start, and so far, so good

Jones just is missing something mentally.
I've seen some breakdowns of his form that show his hand placement being really poor. Feels like something that he should be able to be coached on. Also, his arm might still be hurting. But I think it's 50/50 him having issues and coaching screwing up the whole situation. From now on, please put him at LT 100% of the time, let him get fully healthy (unless Dan gets hurt), and improve coaching of his form.

Fields throws a nice ball. That long pass to Pickens that got called back was an amazing play.

They desperately need a WR2 though. Jefferson hasn't been terrible, but we need to somehow take pressure off of Pickens, because he is electric every time the ball is near him.
I know a WR that might fit the bill, and could be had for cheap from a terribly run team. Diontae Johnson.

Rumors that he's already on the trade block and he probably has been humbled by the whole situation. Maybe not worth the $$ left on his contract and might not be worth the headache if he hasn't got his head out of his arse.

I am a big believer the Steelers if and when Wilson is ready to go, should throw one of the QB names out there to move.. I thought Wilson, but Fields can get you more in return IMO. Especially maybe to a team like Miami..

And I just don't see how the Steelers are going to be able to afford Fields long term.

As long as the giy he picks isn't Jones

IDK how people want Wilson to start. What did he show last year? He’s got a calf injury and he’s already lost almost all of his mobility that made him special in the first place.

Not a Steelers fan but if you’re winning, go with the higher ceiling guy, always. Good coaching can turn a volatile, high ceiling player into someone who can be moderate and also win games.

Bears do not have good coaching, or management. Steelers are the inverse.

Russell Wilson was basically free and a hedge. I’m not sure what he offers anymore as a 36 year old journeyman?

I don’t think anyone in here is advocating for Wilson over Fields at this point. The offense is very limited but Fields at around the # 5-6 reason to blame for that.

I think some Steelers fans expect Wilson to start when he comes back because Tomlin once stated that no one loses their job to injury.

Not disputing you but I don’t recall Tomlin ever saying that. Late last season he stuck with the “hot” hand Mason Rudolph even after Pickett was 100% healthy.

Even if Tomlin said that, was Wilson ever pronounced the starter? I think most expected Wilson to be the starter. Just not sure it was ever more than Russ had first crack at it. Maybe I missed that piece of news.

Hopefully Jones practices exclusively at LT now. Gets healthy, and is ready when Moore gets hurt or has a bad game, and then we never look back.
Hopefully, but right now he's looking like a lost cause. Like he needs a sport psychologist or something to get his head on straight.

Defense looks good. We’ll see when we play against better O. ILB still soft. Queen isn’t physical at the position and Wilson is small.

The DL/OLB is deep and likely best in the league sans injury and the secondary is good and deep with more ceiling.

The offense, well here we are. OL punched more than a few good holes as compared to the last 2 years and we at least look functional with some better downfield execution to Pickens and Friermuth. The OL has plenty of ceiling.

I think we would be worse with Wilson. While Fields is simply not a good passer, his running ability changes the D on every play and we don’t sustain drives without that. It freezes off line defenders which gives Najee more room. He’s powerful and can move the pile but omg slow and more so gets tripped up way too easily. Make him an inside linebacker lol

Chargers a great next test. Lot of fragile egos right now which is pathetic but again here we are.
