2025 Breakout Players - Are You Tanking Too?? (2 Viewers)

With several injuries in my 12 team, Superflex, 0.5 PPR, salary cap league (where we can retain players for 3 years on increasingly expensive contracts), I started 0-4 and have decided to plan for next season by accumulating potential breakout players from the waiver wire.

Below is a list of relevant names at each position of who are available. Interested in hearing who people think could be "a thing" in 2025.

QB - Bryce Young, Hendon Hooker, Trey Lance
RB - A. Gibson, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Keaton Mitchell, Audric Estime, Tyrone Tracy, Hunter Luepke, Isaac Guerendo, Blake Corum, Dylan Laube, Marshawn Lloyd, Kimani Vidal.
WR - Zay Jones, Darius Slayton, Josh Palmer, Luke McCaffrey, R. Bateman, Jalen Tolbert, J. Mingo, J. McMillan, Metchie III
TE - Juwan Johnson, Chig Okonkwo, Noah Fant, G. Dulcich, Theo Johnson, JaTavion Sanders.

Right now, the names that pop out to me as having a chance next season to be relevant are: Bryce Young, Audric Estime, Tyrone Tracy, Blake Corum, Marshawn Lloyd, Vidal, Tolbert, McMillan and Theo Johnson...

Who do you like (including any other lesser known players I may have overlooked)?

Cheers.

Young by default over Hooker and Lance. I would actually take a shot at a cheat code QB and consider Malik Willis if available. Young obviously has a much better chance at being a week 1 starter, but not looking like a guy that's going to flip the switch.

I think Kendre Miller belongs on your short list at RB. All solid options. Not a single standout for me, but probably Corum if I had to pick one.

McMillan is the standout for me at the WR position. Godwin contract year. On that note, Jermaine Burton if he happens to be available and you're playing for 2025.

Maybe Noah Gray (or Wiley) if you think there's a chance Kelce hangs it up. Don't mind Theo Johnson.

All good ideas here. Thanks. I like McMillan as well.

Tanking already ?
Not sure I would be ready to give up yet, but here goes.
I don't like any of those QBs.
RB - Miller and Lloyd seem to have the most upside.
WR - McMillan would be my top target.

this, because Kelce will, eventually. I'd take both, if anyone has room.

I'd also take both rookie CIN TEs
Good thinking here. Kelce could be engaged by season's end and a kept man going forward...

Wiley might have more upside than Gray, but I probably lean Gray until Wiley actually makes some noise. I think there might be some goodness in Gray given years of experience in the system. I used to stash him until I reached the conclusion that he probably didn't have the top-5 ceiling post-Kelce that I was looking for. Not sure if that's fair. I seem to recall that he had a really soft play in the '23 opener on a chance to make a big catch that turned me off on rostering him further.

I think the most currrent dynasty rankings would probably favor Erick All. That's probably where I would go if I had to choose one. Just be ready to pivot to all of the above.

depending on the league setup, it might not be.

When I go into rebuild mode, i go full rebuild and like to sell my players at a premium before other owners who will, eventually, be selling. Less supply (me), more demand (everyone who thinks they're still in it). my dynasty philosophy is mediocrity builds mediocrity... be great or really suck and full rebuild. Plus, if i get similar offers (that include their next year's 1st) from multiple owners, it gives me the chance to choose the offer from the owner who's a bit delusional.

(FYI, I hate the word "tanking". If anyone really "tanks", they should be ejected from the league. but doing what's best for your team isn't "tanking".)

Yeah, it's a very loaded word with many connotations. I'm "embracing the tank" at 0-4 in my dynasty, but that's more about selling veterans at this point. It might escalate to not playing a kicker this week in favor of other stashes, but I doubt that I will be trying to lose at any point. I suspect that an all-out tank for the 1.1 probably won't be worth the embarrassment this year. I'm playing in a league that once allowed a team to start a retired Andrew Luck, so I'm not above it if there's a can't miss stud at RB that's going to put me over the top.

This league format sounds a bit different. I'm also not sure that I would be quitting on the season at 0-4 just for the sake of cheap keeper options, but the OP might be able to make some of these bench moves without killing their chance of getting to 1-4 and seeing where things go.

At TE, I like the potential of Erick All. The Bengals do not often use their TEs much but Higgins is likely gone next year and All has some talent.

I just added him this week. He looks like he could be legit.
If Pitts ****s the bed again tonight, I’m dumping him for All next week in my keeper league.
Can you believe this is where we’re at? No shares by me. Sold some time ago.

Looks like you get to keep Pitts for at least one more week! Of course, he was on my bench last night...

He was on my bench too in lieu of Kincaid, although I am going to dangle him out there to see if he has any value after last night.

I thought I would provide an update. After the 0-4 start, I went on a brief winning streak to get to 3-4, quickly followed by another losing streak to go to 3-7. I was active on the WW from weeks 5 to 10 after trading the under-performing Bijan Robinson after week 4 to free up some cap space to get a head start on the rebuild. Funny how when you start thinking about rebuild, you go on a 3 game winning streak…

At Week 4, my roster was: Fields, Etienne, DJ Moore, Rashee, Pitts, Bijan, Mooney, Caleb, Prater, Browns — with Maye, Minshew, Chubb, Kupp, McBride Mostert and Dolphins on my bench. A pretty decent list of names, but Kupp was hurt, Rashee went out for the year, Bijan and others were playing poorly.

After some further WW acquisitions (like J. Jennings, Estime, Bigsby, Dell, Tracy Jr) and a LOT of TRADES (8 in total over the last few weeks leading up to our deadline), my Week 13 roster is: Maye, Irving, Waddle, G. Wilson, McBride, Addison, McConkey, Mooney, Boswell, Cowboys — with Bigsby, Estime, Swift, K. Coleman, T. Dell, Legette, Chubb, Pacheco, T. Benson and Tracy Jr. on my bench.

Nearly all are on year 1 or 2 of their contracts with a few exceptions (so keepable for another year or two). Waddle’s contract is expiring and will need to be dropped (I wasn’t able to trade him to a contender - ran out of time) — and Pacheco and G. Wilson are in year 3 currently and I will only be able to protect one for next year (we are allowed one 4th year “Franchise player”), but can trade the other to another team in the offseason as that team’s franchise player, so should get something decent back.

It’s a solid group that I am excited about and building it was lots of fun. At different points, I traded away plenty of my Week 4 roster along with players like Goff, Flacco, Jennings, Harrison Jr., Carr and J. Chase to potential playoff teams. Most of these players were too expensive or on expiring contracts so not worth keeping, but some great players for teams making a title run.

Still one week left on our WW, so will drop Waddle (expiring contract) and probably T. Dell (a bit pricey) to grab a couple of other additional prospects.

Good luck to everyone still in the playoff race, which I hope to for the next few years…!
