I’m just trying not to get ahead of myself and enjoy things for now. Yeah, 13 seconds is burned into ever fan’s memory, but the Bills have honestly had awful injury/tragedy luck pretty much every year in the playoffs.Let’s say the Bills lose in first or second round this year and fail to make the Super Bowl again. Some people have been calling for McDermott to be fired if he can’t get us over the hump. But who would even be out there, besides Ben Johnson, that you would feel happy replacing him with?
There’s a part of me that if Johnson told Beanne he would become the next head coach that I’d be ok with firing McDermott. I mean, imagine Josh in that offensive system. But other than Johnson there’s not a single guy out there I’d rather have.
Here were the guys out due to injury in the game they lost:
2023 Divisional against KC: Gabe Davis, Milano, Rapp, Bernard, Spector, Benford, Tre,
2022 Divisional against Bengals: Hamlin had died on the field. Don’t need much more than that. But also out, Hyde, Von, Jones, Bernard, Benford, Spector, Boettger
2021 Divisional against KC: Probably the least injuries and the one they should have won the most obviously. The biggest What If there, is if Tre hadn’t torn his ACL in November. Gotta think this game turns out differently if Tre started rather than Dane Jackson.
They’ve had fairly crippling defensive injuries each of the last 3 years. This year they seem to be in a pretty good spot injury wise. Whether Milano can get closer to his former self may be the biggest question mark.
So I’m just going to sit back and enjoy before concerning myself if the Bills should get rid of one of their most successful coaches ever (hint: they won’t).
