2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 HOF Game on tape, as DC said..."We got work to do" (36 Viewers)

Would be surprised if Hutch matches his sack total of last year they way he is getting blocked. Looks like a pinball at times with the double teams, the TE chips, and the RB picking him up. Has to be sore on Mondays.
This is why getting a pass rusher at the trade deadline is top priority.

Well it’s a priority for ten other teams as well. Not saying we shouldn’t do it, but it’s going to be tough getting it done at a price we like.

Mid level CB for depth would be another piece I’d like to see them add.

Not my favorite guy but if he’s in any kind of shape bring Suh in for the last 6 game push + playoff run. Any IDL who could give Alim & Buggs a hand at generating pressure.

***************

Constant refrain when we have defensive failings:
  • Have to win our one on ones
  • Trust the man beside you will do his job, you focus on yours
  • Coaches Coach and players play; the plan was good, we just didn’t execute it
  • You say it looked like soft coverage? Well that wasn’t the call, we wanted press man but the players didn’t do what we asked of them.
Rinse and repeat.

I sincerely hope AG gets a head coaching job this offseason. Lions will get two 3rds for the minority hire and the team will get a DC capable of making adjustments.
Hope he does too, but not counting on it.

Suh never had an issue with teammates, and he plays intense and hard and cut down his cheap shots. Suh cares about $$$$. If he is in shape they should at least kick the tires on him.

"Some breaking news, last week it was the Ravens that spoke to me," Suh said. "They seem to be interested. They played great [on Sunday]. You never know."

Suh was the in studio guest for Sky Sports UK for the Lions v Ravens game last Sunday. He spoke very well, he does have that softly spoken voice that kind of flies in the face of his on the field reputation. I don’t usually watch our coverage but now the Lions get picked for it they get blacked out on gamepass ( which is ridiculous in itself because Sky Sports is cable and not everybody has it )

edit - good to see Kerby not pop up, I know he supposedly clear the protocol on Sunday but you never know with brain injuries. Looks like Jerry Jacobs should be a full go.

Frank Ragnow is his normal rest maintenance for his inoperable toe, not to worry.

Vaitai will push through. Dude struggled v the Ravens, gave up two hurries and one sack, 2nd lowest OL pass block grade and a team low 44.5 in run blocking. That's not who he is, hopefully he gets healthier as the week goes on.

They asked about Monty is MCDC's weekly presser yesterday morning and it was a curt 'he's not practicing", probably won't see him until Week 9. Raiders have an OK pass defense but are missing 2 of their top 4 DBs (including their best cover corner, the Slot CB), and have been a sieve on run defense. I think Gibbs will have his best game of the season.

No practice on Friday

  • RB David Montgomery (ribs)
  • LG Jonah Jackson (ankle)
  • C Frank Ragnow (toe/calf)
I'm officially worried.
Glasgow can slide over to play C. Vaitai is already playing LG starting for Jackson.

RG.....probably Kayode Awosika, who started Week 6 v the Bucs and graded out well. Much improved over last year. 155 snaps last year, 50.4 PFF grade. This year it's 61.5 on 73 snaps. Has given up 1 sack, 1QB hit, 2 hurries, 65.9 pass block grade.

edit

All of Awosika's snaps have come at LG. They may be more comfortable leaving him there, as Hal Vaitai has played all 192 of his snaps at RG. Glasgow has played 1 g (75 snaps) at LG and his other 5 starts were at RG (294 snaps.) Graham played C in college and has career snap numbers of 2550 at RG, 2422 at C, and 1219 at LG.

Obviously we will miss Frank but his poor game by his standards - gave up 4 pressures and graded out as the 4th best OL on the day at 57.0, on the heels of his 5th best 56.0 (1 pressure) at TB might be indicative of how much pain he has been trying to maange on his inoperable toe. Prior to that, he was the 2nd highest graded C in the NFL through Week 5. Probably a good part of the reason why the run game has struggled the last two weeks.

Also.....

Limited practice

  • G Halapoulivaati Vaitai (back)
FMTT, that's a new designation.

Benito and Malcolm returned to FP Friday, all other Lions were full participants.

O.K. so I crowned them America's New Team two weeks ago.
They must not pull a doink like America's Old Team and lose AT HOME to a team they should beat any week they play them anywhere.
O.K?
All right :banned:

This should be the second game in the Dan Campbell era to his this list IMO;

Top 20 Most Points Scored by Detroit Lions Single Game

Interesting 6 of them have occurred on Thanksgiving:
  • 1950 49-14 over New York Yankees (not. a. typo.)
  • 1951 52-35 over FTP
  • 1952 48-24 over FTP
  • 1983 45-13 over Pittsburgh Steelers
  • 1997 55-20 over Chicago Bears
  • 2015 45-14 over Philadelphia Eagles
50 burger and team record (55) are on the table IMO.

Penei Sewell last allowed a sack Week 10 at Chicago, 15 games ago. His pass blocking grade of 84.2 is 7th amongst all OT and 1st for RT. He allowed 2 pressures in Week 2 playing LT and had w of his 3 lowest grades when he flipped sides while Taylor Decker missed time with a HAS.

The Raiders move Maxx Crosby around but that’s the primary assignment. Good on good.

He never comes off the field; 443 snaps (97.1%) is the highest usage of any Edge. On True Pass Rush sets his grade of 92.0 is second to Myles Garrett and his overall pass rushing grade is 90.8 (4th.) He is first in pressures generated with 43 - Hutch is 2nd with 42 - and has 7 sacks.

As a team, Las Vegas ranks 18th in Pass Rush grade; Detroit is 21st. For both teams, it is one superstart and friends who have not been helping enough. It is very much Batman without Robin.

I hate to state that old cliche of maybe this was a good loss, but maybe it was. The world was starting to get behind the Lions and really starting to believe they could make a playoff run. Maybe they started to believe the hype. Nothing more humbling then getting your but handed to u like that. My gut says the culture Campbell has created they the teams responds well.

I so hope you are right and all of it in the air!!! The Kool Aid got me as FanDuel has a weekly special prop +220 to hit if either Goff or Mahomes hit for 350+ yards passing this week that I had to bet, if for no other reason than to make sure I can stay awake to the end of Monday Night.

meh.through the cloud of optimism about the Lions, is the same hangman's noose that is only visible to Mets fans. both team wreak of potential, of 'this is the year' and every year it's wtf just happened to us. used to be the Jets saga as well, only this year feels different, like maybe just maybe they've turned the corner a-rodgers be damned.
but the Lions are the Lions are the Lions. as emmit smith famously said, a tiger can't lose it's spots. and 'they got debacled' - Lions got spanked by the Ravens this was a turkey shoot game. or shoot the fish in the barrel game. i.e. too easy. they're competitive but in no way a contender unfortunately.

PSA

Trolls are internet bullies hide behind their computers, phones, or tablets and do their utmost best to cause online misery.

Reasons for trolling vary from person to person. Some people do it out of boredom, and some want to get a response from someone they idealize. Some do it for seeking attention, while there may be others who have negative social potency.

According to research, people who are insecure and want to get a kick out of being hostile towards others are more likely to troll. People with a propensity to seek excessive stimulation have often been found trolling.

A psychoanalytic study suggests that people with antisocial, narcissistic behavior and sadistic personality disorder are more likely to perpetrate trolling behavior. These people derive pleasure and enjoyment from being intentionally cruel to others.

There are trollers who are just jealous people who wish to lash out at successful people because they have all the fun and happiness in life which the troller lacks. Educated, strong and successful women give such people a colossal inferiority complex, which they show by lashing out at them.

They wish to gain a reaction and then troll some more to further upset their victims to "have some fun."

The best way to deal with such people is to ignore them. Being ignored kills their fun and they move onto their next target.

Psychologists suggest that anonymity plays a vital role in trolling. People feel a lack of restraint when they are communicating online. They tend to easily say things over the internet that they would not say in face-to-face communication.

Factors such as mood also play a vital role in trolling. When people are in a negative mood, they tend to vent their negativity through their messages. Many people being tagged as trolls might just be people like us who are having a bad day though they could have chosen a better way to deal with it.

Pointspread seems to be leveling off around 8 with the Raiders paying +300 on the moneyline. Working in the total of 46.5, a projection of "around" a 27-19 game. 🏈

After the shellacking we took in Baltimore I think fans want blood vengence.

One score victory won't placate the masses.

Then again, half the bandwagon turned an ankle jumping off so there was some good came out of M&T Bank Stadium.

Any news on Monty? I see him listed as questionable for MNF, but no new info if they plan on waiting to after the bye to bring him back

Was wondering the same for real life and for multiple fantasy leagues I have him in ! Updates have been very slow/non existent this week

Check the report

- J Caldwell, probably

DC is so much better in the pressers.

Caldwell and Patricia were both such dooshes. Caldwell acted like is was a national security question if asked about a pulled hammy.

Worried that his big toe that can`t be repaired on Rags is going to cause him to leave the game much earlier than he should. I read last year Rags is in constant pain and limps around. Has to get an injection to make it through game day.

How often did we get a presser out of Quinn? Maybe 2x a year?

Hated everything about those two douchebags.

Caldwell I always felt was a good man. Mid coach at best but truly a good human, took time to get to know the men he was leading, cared about where they were headed in life.

I could respect him on that basis. He’s the kind of coach players look back on and are grateful for the experience.

The teams were 100% predictable. Beat bad teams, coin flip on middle class, always lose to good teams - home or away. Stone cold lock 1st round exit in the WVC games. I think we’ve lost 11 out of 12 SB era playoff games? 0-9 on the road, 0-8 as road WC…that’s off memory so check it. Not all on Jim but it was never going to change under his leadership.

I feel like we pushed the Lions as the SB contender , new kid on the block WAYYYYYYYYY too much. They are after all , the Lions. I'm no fan of the Ravens but that was a take them behind the woodshed moment yesterday. not sure how deeetroit recovers from this. good morning football on NFLN was all over the Lions like a cheap suit for weeks. now what??
They have some serious talent but they're likely a year or two away. the window is only opening for them ,and that's a good thing, the opposite of the Bills. everyone roots for the Lions. wish they could get it together.but a flop like this is criminal for a so-called contender.

The Lions will bounce back. Are there three or four teams clearly better than the Lions...absolutely. But most Super Bowls are not won by the best team. They just need to respond like they did last year after the pounding they took from Carolina.

Much respect for Caldwell as a man and the players had respect for him, just thought his behavior in pressers was dooshy and unnecessary.

Have no use at all for Quinntricia.

I'm starting Josh Reynolds again, home game where Goff clearly has better stats per Bobby's upthread breakdown. The injuries are a little concerning, but the Lions may have a coaching advantage. LV is 9th in OVP in my league's scoring, but they're not high in sacks so Goff may have time. Marcus Peters isn't a lock down CB. Garoppolo starting should lead to a slightly higher scoring game. Reynolds has outproduced other big names on my roster such as Godwin (didn't start him), Cooper, and Higgins.

Dan Campbell Saturday presser:
  • Good to have CJGJ around for a few days, love the energy
  • Frank won't practice today, it's day-to-day, hard to say if he'll be able to go for MNF
  • GG will play C, Hal Vaitai on the injury report level of concern?
    • "Well if it comes to that we got Kayode, we got Sorsdal, we got Skip, we got all kinds of options. If it comes to that we'll slide Penei inside to G, put Skipper at C.....(laughter)...but yearh if Big V goes we'll be fine."
  • We embrace these moments (playing on national tv), as a roster we look forward to these.
  • Heaping praise on Josh McDaniels. You wonder if other Coaches are soft on other coaches, blind spot, just a respect thing, or does he walk off stage round the corner and tell the guy walking with im "can you beleive thaey lapped that up? Guy is a clown, everyone knows it."
  • On Josh Reynolds (@SoBeDad) Since 2021 he's been one of the best additions we could have had. He's perfect for what we are. The reliability factor, the hands, the route tree, it goes a long way. I laugh every Wednesday of what we ask from him: play the X, then Z, back to this formation, then blocking support block, hold on we need you to go to the 2nd level, take the CB, no let's have you block down on the Will LB...he does the dirty work, he's been explosive receiver, he's reliable...." Bruh it goes on for several minutes.

Thanks. Regarding a thread on analytics, I think the WR position would be the most useful, since there are more of them in play each week, and stuff like defensive alignments and shadow CBs, and a synthesis of the info, is hard to come by. You could be a consultant to Joe!

BTW, I still remember the 2020 election thread where you provided a real time update of the data, it was impressive.

Thanks....so I was able to barter my way into a couple of premium data sites

I could pull receiver/DB matchup info

I have access to a lot of data WRT depth, direction, expected CB/S matchups.....lemme think on that a bit

Kind of laid up with a respiratory thing right now but s/b Ok in a couple days

Reminds me, time for a flu shot. Still thinking about COVID shot. I'm traveling during Thanksgiving, so I'll probably do it on a different day, even though they say the same day is OK. Stay safe.

Got my flu shot, due fir the new COVID next week - might push it back.

Day I got to Baltimore I developed a nasty deep chest cough; dry for several days, now a little phlegm. GP says nothing serious, just a respiratory virus that will run its course (obvs tested negative for anything known.)

Getting close to an age where any kind of setback causes me to be extra cautious. Want to walk my daughter down an aisle one day, ya know.

Plus there might be a Super Bowl that needs to be attended one day…

I only went back about 20 years, but most Superbowls are won by one best of the 3 or 4 best teams. There are a few exceptions.

home sick today so I’m goofing around listening to old MLB broadcasts (archive.org)

currently on Game 5 of the 1968 WS

Brock didn’t slide, Willie Horton hits Freehan on the fly from deep left to keep it at 3-2 Cards

53,000+ at Tiger Stadium goes wild

tell ya what we might come back & win this one….

(earlier I watched a 27 minute Frankenstein project - someone matched up film from the 1957 NFL Championship to the radio broadcast)

I only have a Slay Jr 23 in color rush grays. Hangs way in the corner with the other former Lions: 4, 9, 32, 88. Current collection is 14 (x2), 44, 46, 97, with a new 9 en transit….might get here Monday.

Have never rocked a 20 but always thought it would be cool to get all three of them.

Ravens WR Odell Beckham Jr. was fined $21,844 for unnecessary roughness in 4th quarter vs. Lions. Believe it was for leading with his helmet into Kerby Joseph. That’s his third fine in 2 wks. MLB Roquan Smith was fined $16,391 for hit on Jared Goff in 4th quarter that was flagged.

FTR I spent most of Sunday night last weekend on a pub crawl, in which I would announce my presence when my wife and I rolled in

I want an F***ing rematch

and if there were any Ravens fans in their group

Just get to Vegas, alright guy? Cause we'll be there! Your team just peaked, we're gonna peak in January and February but hey! Congrats for winning October.

which is why I have laryngitis this week, it sure as heck wasn't from the game.

I used to do outside accounting & the YE tax return for Dexter's consulting business. Good guy, very personable, always came in to sign his return (most clients just want you to FedEx it over.)

What's the injury outlook for this game Monday night? Trying to decide between Detroit or Chargers against the Bears at home in my Survivor Pool.

I think Detroit wins this in a rebound game in front of an electric crowd on Monday night. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.

stone cold lock - see the MNF game thread I just posted for the why

they are going to come out p.o.'ed and the crowd on Devil's Night in Detroit? Gonna hit 120+ dBs, standing room only

first MNF game in 5 years

last week is not who they are but they know nothing in this league is easy

hard week of practice in pads, I think their head is in the right place

***************

Monty will be out

Gibbs can handle the load, but Craig Reynolds might see more snaps than last week when they dropped back 58 times

OL - it's complicated

both tackles are healthy, that's 2 of their 3 best guys

C Pro Bowler Frank Ragnow is dealing with a calf; if he misses the start, Graham Glasgow slides over - 8 year guy with like 96 starts, 37 at C, playing well so NBD

LG - Pro Bowler Jonah Jackson out likely Kayode Awosika gets his 4th career start, he's decent but he's the backup for a reason

RG - Hal Vaitai had a knee injury Week 2 so GG took over; now he's having back issues, can back up but not go side-to-side. Which probably means we turn to 6'9" Dan Skipper (swing T and 6th OL in 13 sets) or rookie Colby Sorsdal, 5th rounder out of William & Mary. See above - was decent in 36 snaps Week 3 but he was viewed as a developmental project.

Others - reserve DE John Paschal likely out, IDL Benito Jones practiced in full Saturday, LB Malcolm Rodriguez was LP and is questionable, Jerry Jacobs & the rest of the DBs are healthy.

Every team has injuries but we've had starters miss a cumulative total of 25+ games, 12 players have hit the IR, 7 season ending injuries. It's starting to pile up.

Should be OK this week but nothing is easy.
