2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 HOF Game on tape, as DC said..."We got work to do" (52 Viewers)

It’s actually a constant source of annoyance to me how bad our kicking game is. Or its complete lack of distance ability. We are a team looking to go to the playoffs and go deep. Matches are often decided on FG attempts right at the death. For a team of our aspirations we should have taken a punt on someone in the draft or been a little ambitious with trying to make a trade happen before the deadline. Kicker trades are not something you hear of that often but it’s such glaring need for us. Prater should probably still be kicking for us tbh

Was a bit puzzled with the Patterson to Badgley switch. Patterson has missed of couple of extra points (one a bad snap) and a short FG recently. 15 for 17 is pretty respectable for FGs and better than Badgley 20 for 24 last season. Patterson is not particularly good at 50+ yard FG, but still better than Badgley. Nearly identically mediocre kickers who should only be kicking behind 50 yards in complete desperation. I guess just the recent miscues kind of all stacked up together to make Patterson look worse than he is.

think they're just kicking a 53-man decision down the road

still have 5 more roster moves to make in the next 3 weeks - Cabinda, CJGJ, Houston, McNeil will all come back, and Bruce Irvin has only 1 roster elevation left.

we might be the only NFL team without a kicker on the active roster

top 12 RBs over the last five weeks in 1/2 PPR:

12. Chuba Hubbard 74.4
11. Tony Pollard 76.4
10. Alvin Kamara 80.3
9. David Montgomery 80.7
8. Raheem Mostert 82.6
7. Devin Singletary 87.6
6. Kyren Williams 88.9
5. Joe Mixon 97.3
4. Jahmyr Gibbs 97.9
3. James Cook 99.4
2. Rachaad White 103.1
1. Christian McCaffrey 140.2

It's a nice problem to have.

I've been really impressed with what AG has tried the last few weeks. Ifeatu Melifonwu has been dynamic, they scaled back Brian Branch - who is still playing at a high level, but probably more effective making him Slot CB only - and they've taken a lot of chances getting creative to try to generate pressure. Beats the hell out of just playing shell or man and asking guys to win their one on ones. Benching Jerry Jacobs and getting solid play from Kindle Vidor has been clutch. Even gave lil' Khalil Dorsey significant snaps last week and he came up big. Also lightened Jack Campbell's coverage responsibilities and he has been very solid the last 4 weeks.

If they can maintain that flying around the ball attitude on defense we could see that unit peaking at year end. Gonna be huge getting Ceedy, James and Alim back for the playoffs.

Lions assignments for Sunday's game in Minnesota:

Broadcast: Albert/Vilma/Spake
Officiating: Land Clarks's crew

Clark's crew not afraid to throw flags. They have eight games with 14 or more this season. Last Lions' game was 31-30 win over Bears in Chicago in 2022.

Jahmyr Gibbs leads all NFL RBs in plays of 20+ yards...and there are a bunch of RBs with more touches. He is also in the top 10 in broken tackles.

Not bad for someone that "can't run between the tackles" and someone that "falls down at first contact".

Lions could become the 1st team with two 1,000-yard rushers and two 1,000-yard receivers in NFL history.

Monty needs 145 (49 per game)
Gibbs needs 208 (70 per game)
LaPorta needs 242 (81 per game)

Probably gonna be tough for LaPorta without 1 really big game, but its certainly on the table.

CJGJ: "People thought we were going to be ****ty this year. I look at my comments every day from when I first signed. 'Enjoy being a 5-win team, a 3-win team, a 4-win team.' Haha, ****er. Still on my cocky, arrogant ****.

I read the Bible, too. Make sure y'all put that in there."

:lmao:

I'd love to see them do it.

Sam is unlikely to get there; he's topped 65 yards twice. Two best 3-game stretches were 203 (G 2-4) and 210 (Wk 13 had 140.)

Then again we're playing the Vikings twice. Obviously winning trumps everything but they probably wouldn't mind dialing up LaPorta a lot while playing Hock.

The Vikings are among the most blitz heavy teams in the NFL, so I could see quick hitters to LaPorta/ARSB/Gibbs being on the menu, and of the 3, I think the Vikes would try hardest to stop Amon-Ra.

I don't recall the exact number but since 2020 Frank Ragnow has only allowed one sack in more than 1700 snaps.

Someone did a split on the Lions offense with Frank in it and without Frank in it. It like flipped from the 2nd best to a low 20's offense.

Not sure how much longer Rags is going to last. Read that he can hardly walk Monday to Saturday because of the pain. The toe might end his career sooner than later.

How we feeling about a potential playoff game against the Rams ? Can’t say I would look forward to that one tbh, Matthew is playing incredibly well right now and I would not enjoy him sticking a dagger in us. I think it’s something he’ probably rather avoid as well if given the choice. They’d certainly be a very dangerous wildcard opponent for us

Would be awesome to beat Stafford in the Wild Card round and take out Patricia in the Divisional round

We hunting that swag still, we still hunting for what’s ours. I don’t think a lot of guys understand you in a position right now you can change your life. Ya know, you fighting for seed’s that you ain’t never seen before. Like some guys have, some guys haven’t. I think right now it’s coming tighter, you tune out the noise. What do guys call it, the kool aid you been drinking? Put that **** down, just keep playing ball. Excuse my language. But it’s just understanding that, like, this team got a chance to change the city, change their history.

Added in the current win totals of each team thru 14 games. Everyone has their own guys to re-sign as well as FAs to hopefully bring in under the cap, but it's encouraging going forward that a non rebuilding team like the Lions are in the top 10.

OL is healthy

Games in which Decker-Jackson-Ragnow-Glasgow-Sewell started:
  • 34-20 at GB
  • 42-24 CAR
  • 41-38 at LAC
  • 33-28 at NO
  • 42-17 DEN
5-0
38.4 ppg
How are you feeling about the DET running game against a tough MN D?

Curious how they handle the crazy blitzing from Flores. Do they trust Gibbs back there?

MN gives up a lot of receptions to RBs (but not a lot of yards). Planning on starting Gibbs, but think I'm leaning towards benching Monty. Feeling like this will be a tough game for both of them to eat.

Think ASTB has a huge game.

After watching the Rams last night also knowing they are hitting their stride, I would rather not face them. The Stafford connection plus McVey as the coach leans me to prefer any other team in round 1. The other concern would be Minn if we manage to win both games, beating them 3 times in 4 weeks does not sound like good odds.

I don't listen to too much local radio, but I did catch an amusing call between 10-2. Guy ordered a #9 Lions Jamo jersey in the mail. Opens the box and instead finds a #9 Lions Stafford jersey. They did get the size right though.

Cominsky falls on the fumble instead of trying to pick it up game over. Not sure what he was thinking but made us sweat it out. Was not a pretty win but a W is a W in the NFL.

So nice to finally get s home playoff game.

Iffy may have been the player of the game.

He’s come up big in the last month. I was watching on my laptop with a headphone in, dumped the headphones and cranked the volume up and told my partner Lions stop a TD this Vikings drive they are div champs for the first time since 93. She is a bit of an NFL fan but hasn’t watched this season, she laughed and said it’s the Lions no chance they stop a TD then. I said hmm maybe these 10-4 Lions are different. Next play INT game over 😂😂😂
