2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 HOF Game on tape, as DC said..."We got work to do" (52 Viewers)

Lions not 100% locked into a spot. (so you're saying there's a chance at #2).
But assuming they're at #3, they're locked into facing the Rams (and we'll see how much the 49ers care about the Week 18 matchup) or the Packers (if they win and Rams lose).

The money lines indicate maybe a 5% chance at the 2 seed, but because it's still a chance Lions will be trying this week. And for better or worse their coach rarely backs off.
Lions a current 4 point favorite.

I waited a day to let my emotions calm down. To read and listen to radio and TV and am more confused this morning.

First of all I want to say I don`t believe that NFL officials "Wanted the Cowboys to win" I just don`t think the NFL Refs would put themselves under this type of scrutiny on a prime time Saturday night game where every NFL fan was watching. If anything it was an egregious mistake but can`t see it being intentional like Lions fans of the radio think it was. This has turned into a "he said, she said" situation. Decker said he reported, ref said he did not.

What troubles me is right after the play the refs needed to get it right. If they confused Skipper and Decker go to the replay like they always do frame by frame and look and who talked to the refs. That is how big that play was. If Decker did not report what was he doing talking to the Ref?

Second. Lions D played a great game except for a couple of plays..how Barnes did not sack Prescott for a safety is one of the most puzzling plays I have seen in a long time. Then on top of that it ends up a long TD pass. 9 point swing and Lions would have had the ball back. Lions had some good fortune right after when Lamb fumbled out of the end zone though.

Third. Goff had an up and down game. Came though on last drive, thanks to Dallas calling for a pass play that fell incomplete giving Lions 40 more seconds. What Dallas was thinking there was beyond me. But Goff still has trouble with the out routes under pressure. Like Aikman said if you are throwing the out..make sure it it outside your receiver so he is the only one who has a chance to catch it. The INTs were too far inside.

Fourth. I like DC, we all do. This is not criticism of DC But at times his bravado takes over a little too much. The NFL is a game of calculated risk-reward. This is not Pop Warner. The fake punt was ballsy and everyone loved it because it worked, but risking giving Dallas the ball on Lions 25 if it does not work worth the risk in a tight game? Not kicking the FG early in a tight worth the risk? Not having a mobile qB on those 4th down goal line plays limit what Lions can do and we know by now the blitz in coming on those plays.

I wanted them to go for 2 and the win after the last TD, but after the penalty and all the chaos it just seemed off, then after another penalty Lions used up there 2 point plays, kick the PAT and extend the game.

Sad thing now it looks like that loss will cost the Lions the #2 seed and a possible second home game. But the season and goals are still ahead and if the D steps it up again anything can happen.

The team played a tough gritty game Saturday..they played playoff type football and maybe that helps going forward. I am so looking forward to what lies ahead.

In terms of the "call" the NFL came down quickly on the ref crew, removing them from the playoffs. Not sure if they will be allowed back for week 18. To me this confirms the Lions side of the story. But it's over and we will move forward. 🦁

A couple of weeks ago, Jalen Hurts said, the Eagles "were not committed". Yesterday an Eagles player said, “Practice habits become game day reality”.

I'm not saying he's the only player, but the above is why the Lions didn't draft Jalen Carter.

Have to admit Jamo has won me over. With LaPorta and St Brown I doubt he will ever be the "go to" or "move the chains" guy who gets 90 receptions a year. But watching him he does bring an element that teams have to defend all the time. And he seems totally engaged now, on running plays he blocks, even if he is not getting a block he is always out there hustling and getting in the way of defenders.

Heard Goff a couple of weeks ago talk about him and it made sense. Said "The reason he has not been getting targets is that he missed training camp both years, missed almost all of last season with an injury, missed most of camp and early games this season with a suspension so we don`t have the thousands of reps together the other guys have. Just now have we been able to work together, develop trust as to what both of us want to do.

The only teams in #NFL history to have 4 players each produce 850+ scrimmage yards AND 9+ TDs in a single season:

- 2023 Lions (Gibbs, LaPorta, Montgomery, St Brown)

- 2004 Colts (Marvin Harrison, Edgerrin James, Reggie Wayne, Brandon Stokley)

Patience was needed as it was with Gibbs. Both of these guys are in a place to become elite offensive weapons. Holmes & company drafted players with elite potential.

Along with La Porta and Saint the Lions have an offense that may end up being compared to the past great offenses of the Colts and Rams.

Fantasy players have little patience with those who don’t immediately produce. Lions had made it clear they were going to slowly incorporate Gibbs into the offense. With Jamo most here understood that he was going to need time because of how choppy his actual time with the team had been.

I am so looking forward to the Lions future and hopefully Holmes can add talent to the OL to keep the whole thing going for years to come.

McCarthy is lucky that the 2 point conversion was overturned. Major error throwing a bomb when all was needed was to run the clock. That type of coaching will cost you a playoff game.

If Chicago beats Green Bay, the Lions will play the Rams

If Green Bay wins and SF beats LAR, Detroit will play the Packers

I'm torn deciding which team I'd least like to play.
I think I'd rather face the Packers. I DGAF about the Stafford narrative, I just think the Rams have been playing very well lately, and I'd much rather face Jordan Love in his first-ever playoff game. But that Thanksgiving Day game scared me a little, too

Unclear if it was solely because of that or also because of the tripping call against Hendershoot that should have been on Hutchinson

Overall, I came out of Saturday night feeling good about the Lions in spite of the loss. Yeah, it was probably a mistake to go for two after the penalty, but overall I really like Campbell's aggressiveness. I couldn't help but flash back to the last time the Lions got screwed by the refs in a Cowboys game, in the 2014 playoffs. The unexplained pickup of the DPI flag was awful, but Caldwell compounded the problem by punting on 4th and 1 on the following play.

So yeah, it would have been nice if Detroit had won the game and been in position to host Dallas in a potential playoff rematch. But, based on what I saw Saturday, I feel fully confident that, if that rematch does end up happening, Detroit can absolutely go back to Dallas and beat them (but for the love of God, please figure out a better coverage scheme for CeeDee!)

At the same time, Saturday also highlighted for me that the biggest thing holding Detroit back remains Goff. I'll give him a pass on the first INT; he was being rushed and didn't see that the screen was covered. But the second one, as well as the final 2-point attempt, failed because in both cases he short-armed the throws. I give him all credit for the way he engineered that final drive, but I still question on whether he can make all the big throws when it counts. I'm not one of those who says they need to immediately move on from him and hand the job to Hooker -- I have no idea if he's even any good -- and I do think they can win a SB with Goff if everything breaks right. But counting on an inside straight is not the best long-term strategy

Thank You Detroit For Everything The Past Year Has Been Amazing From Meeting New People Playing With Great Teammates But The Time Has Come For Me To Say Goodbye. Detroit 96 Out. ❤️

Looks like Buggs is going to be released to make room. They still have one open roster spot so cutting him opens up the spots for CJGJ & McNeil.

Houston won’t play this week per Dan Campbell. Not sure if he or Bruce Irvin will be on the 53-man for the playoffs, but we’ll see if they make another move.

Initial thought is that I’d rather not play against Stafford and the Rams. Stafford is playoff tested and I think Rams are better against the run.

The Lions certainly did not match GB’s intensity on Thanksgiving. Some of that may have been due to how they dismantled GB in the first game at GB. That may have led to some complacency.

GB and Love improved but I think the Lions will be ready if there is a next time.

Detroit Lions Aidan Hutchinson stats this season:
  • 47 tackles
  • 28 QB hits
  • 11 tackles for loss
  • 9.5 sacks
  • 7 passes defended
  • 3 forced fumbles
  • 2 fumble recoveries
  • 1 INT
  • 3rd in pressures
  • 6th PFF Pass Rush Grade ED

It was an entertaining game. We had some issues, which is a weekly thing, it's never perfect. Goff did not have a good game and the red zone offense struggled. But I've been impressed with the adjustments AG has made the last 4 weeks. The Barnes gaffe was inexplicable, they had no answers for CeeDee, the IOL play was atrocious. OTOH their run D was pretty stout, we forced 4 punts, 3 sacks, couple turnovers (the latter resulted in zero points.) Didn't have their best game but they were right there at the end. Most games come down to couple plays.

Losing sucks but this is the kind of experience that can force a team to come together. I'm glad we have Campbell leading them bc I think he does a good job of keeping them focused and moving beyond the sour result. Couple things that impressed me in game: 1) after the Lamb TD, MCDC went over to where Barnes was sitting with the other LBs and had a calm discussion with him. Barnes made the 3rd down stop on their next possession. 2) after the Goff interception, Campbell is yelling at the defense running onto the field "We're still in this, let's get a stop here." Obviously they benefited from phantom tripping but whatever - Jack Campbell was held on the 92 yarder, ARSB got mugged and there was no call, yada yada yada. After the Dallas FG Detroit responded by driving 89 yards for the TD. They were always going for 2 *(Campbell did tell Costa and Stoney yesterday if it had been outside the 10 bc of another penalty or something they would have kicked.)

Doesn't do any good to chase your tail over the end game. It is what it is, nothing will change. Have to move forward. Still have a chance to tie the franchise record for regular season wins (12) and go into the playoffs with positive momentum.

Love your take. I’m a Cowboy fan first and foremost, but a Detroit fan second because of DC. He was born down the road from our ranch, went to school in Glen Rose Texas next door, played for Dallas and has that “every guy” down home personality players want to play for. Things are moving in the right direction for Detroit with DC running the show. I wish you were in the AFC instead of NFC for a chance to play each other in the Big Dance one day, but as it is just know that if we meet again or Dallas loses out- lots of Cowboy fans will be rallying around Dan and the Lions. Good luck in the playoffs, just not against Dallas 😋

I was listening. First time I heard DC get that way.

Also, what is going on with Buggs?

Tough year for him.

Reddit speculation, goes back to this spring. Resigned for a 2-year deal, did a lot of partying & skipped voluntary OTAs (which had a ver high % of attendance.) Lot of social media drama over the summer (gf problems), speculation about mental health issues. Don’t know if any of that is true BTW. Coach said it was performance based. He worked hard after getting benched the first couple weeks but they preferred Benito over Buggs. He can’t play 3-tech like Alim so it’s either 1-tech or ride the pine.

Seemed like he was back in good standing. He’s a good vocal leader; he was breaking it down pregame getting everyone hyped up before the Vikings game.

You also have to take into account neither Brad or Dan has full control. Personnel decisions are collaborative & I think Holmes prefers to hang onto guys he invested in (Levi Onwuzurike) and they probably view Brodric Martin as still developing. They’ve seen peak Buggs and while he’s solid there isn’t much upside there.

Feel bad just from a human standpoint. He’s been a part of the last couple seasons progression. But as the roster gets better we will have to shed mid guys who aren’t performing (C Harris, W Harris, both Okwara brothers.)

Sheila is having a face to face with Roger today. I still thought the NFL statement was complete BS, not admitting an error but then blaming the Lions for trickery. The team has moved on and there is nothing thst can be done, but this kind of stuff needs to be handled better in the future.

Yeah, he’s even patient with Carlos. But I think either was listening earlier, or somebody told him what Costa said before Coach came on the air.

I loved that Dan called them out. Don’t be all tough guy bravado when it’s just you bitching to callers but get mousy when you have Campbell on the line. You want a candid convo let’s have it, no need to tip toe around the questions when you’ve already said on air he was a reckless lunatic for going for 2.

I’m sure Roger will be open and honest. (Sarcasm: he’s a weasel)

It was good both ways, DC called Costa out "I`m here..ask it!" and Costa did not back down and said he thought it was reckless as many people were thinking the same. Stoney was going to pitch in too but DC snapped back too fast and cut him off.

Yeah I listened to the whole show. Mostly bc someone tweeted they played Dan Miller’s call of the 2-pointer to Decker. It was epic….for about 15 seconds….then the heartbreaking “Did they just throw a late flag?”

It just hit me that both last Saturday and in the 2014 playoff game, the delay (in throwing the flag in one case, picking it up in the other) made the whole thing much more painful

I don't think the Lions have made an official move, but it seems that have informed Bruce Irvin of their decision that they will be parting ways. I suppose that means that the Lions are confident that Houston will be ready. Irvin gave us a nice boost in a couple games. He did not really show up last game, I assume he did not get many snaps.

That was interesting, thanks for posting. One thing I haven't heard anyone ask Campbell, Goff or any of the other Lions: Why didn't anyone notice that the refs said 70 instead of 68? Was it the crowd noise? How frequently does something like that happen?

Search for the Spanish broadcast; it shows the Lions huddle, Goff is calling the play (Decker was to the QB’s immediate left), and simultaneously the referee announcement is made. No one heard in the huddle bc they were focused on Jared’s play call.

McCarthy says he heard it. I believe T.J. Lang was on the sidelines, he didn’t hear it. It’s not heard on the Fox broadcast but it did get picked up by the Dallas radio broadcast.

If the Lions coaches heard it they haven’t said that AFAIK. Not sure what they could have done, there’s no remedy there that doesn’t result in a flag (Campbell running on the field, etc.)

To me it makes sense Dallas heard it bc that is the one thing they would be keying on. 70 again, OK the Mike has identified him, we’re good. I imagine if you’re on the Lions staff you tune out the crowd, there’s no way it’s a reasonable expectation that the referee has made a basic procedural error.

Think about it from Dan’s perspective: 25 years in the league, you’ve seen an eligible OL report more than 1,000 times and nobody ever screwed up the way Brad Allen did, how is part of your process checking something that’s literally never gone sideways?

Good for her and us. I don’t know but suspect that Old Man Ford didn’t arrange a face to face meeting with the Commissioner regarding past officiating screw overs.

I know that your options are limited but I always have felt past ownership thought that making too much of a fuss was somewhat inappropriate.

This is assertive and an appropriate response by Sheila particularly with the NFL shifting blame on to the Lions.

Jamo DNP
LaPorta good to go

Alim & Ceedy will return
Starters will all play

Bruce Irvin is out of the picture, they don’t have room for him, released from practice squad

I think I saw on one video where after he walks away from Decker and Sewell, Allen goes to the Cowboys huddle and presumably tells them then. Based on what Dallas players have said, they definitely knew that 70 was officially eligible.

Other thing I'd like to know: How common is the trickeration that the Lions tried to pull with Decker, Sewell and Skipper all walking toward the ref? If it's something that teams do frequently, that's all the more reason the refs should have gotten it right. If it was a novel thing, I guess it's more understandable, and maybe the Lions should have made absolutely sure they had the right guy, but it's still on Allen to get it right

According to Rex Ryan it is fairly common or at least hardly unique. The game I went to I only heard a few announcements for an eligible, so just reporting isn't even all that frequent.

I think that this is one of those situations that have happened this season where the Lions being tricky and creative got in their own way. Creating confusion also confused the ref and Lions had no fail safe when the ref got it wrong.

That said still think Campbell going for the conversion from the 7 was off. If you have faith in your team why not have it in them winning in OT as well.

Going for it from the 7 is what you do when you need the 2 points to tie.

Both Rams and Niners resting starters this week. If Rams lose and Packers win, Detroit plays GB (assuming they don't luck into 2-seed with Dallas/Philly losses).

Of course, there's also the possibility that, even if they're going all out to win, Packers still lose to red-hot Bears
