I have a nice, simple life on Sundays. My bride and I go to church, have brunch with friends, go to the park or museum. The Lions are just this big ole pile of frustration. I'm at a point in life where I'm cool with cutting off people or things that are more trouble than they're worth. This team is just something I need less of right now. It's not something that is worth getting upset about or going on a tirade. I'll just let them go for awhile, I have other things/people I'd prefer to invest in.
One good thing about being a Lions fan is that it forces you to face the fact that some things in life just don't work out.
The thing I like best is that no matter how bad my fantasy team is going, it's almost always doing better than the Lions.
Yesterday was a terrific, mostly NFL free Sunday for me. We finished socializing after church and were waiting for car service, I made a couple quick GTD moves and put the app away for the day. Listened to the game while getting to our brunch spot.
Didn't think about football the rest of the afternoon, took in some fall color, had friends over for a meal and a few bottles of wine, telling stories for hours. Binged a little Netflix, on my way to the bedroom took a glance at my FF team. High score for the week, finally a MNF with no sweat, first place. See how easy this hobby is when you don't think about it too much? Picked an optimal lineup for the first time in forever.
I hate it when the Lions play awful and fantasy team stinks. My irritability increases and it's just so idiotic - sports should be a source of enjoyment. I'm very passionate about teams I follow, it's just not in my DNA to be a casual. But if the only team I care about is going to play in a way that is this embarrassing, I'm better off just letting it go for a few months. Maybe next year they'll get it right.

I love reading books about the 1940s-1950s Brooklyn Dodgers fans. "Just wait until next year!" Every. Single. Year. They won ten pennants without a World Championship (1890, 1899, 1900, 1916, 1920, 1941, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1953.) The last 5 times they lost the World Series to the Yankees.
Then it finally happened.
Detroit has nowhere near that level of consistently good teams, but it still resonates. We can never beat the Vikings, the Packers have ruled the division for decades, we find new and inventive ways to lose every year. Obscure league rules are discovered as a new way to screw us out of a win and get changed in the offseason. It's unending.
One day before I die it will be Brooklyn in 1955. It's going to be amazing.
