I believe this has a lot to do with the league-worst pass protection. I'm not sure any QB would be getting the ball downfield behind this OL. There's just not enough time. I've never seen a dolphins line as bad as this years, and it hasn't often been a strength in my time following them.
No actually it does not.....I was at the game yesterday....and have seen Tua live 6 times now. He simply does to have a live NFL arm.....nope. He cannot make all the throws needed to be a successful franchise QB and the sooner some Dolphins fans stop talking themselves into this notion that it is all on the OL....the better you will be for it. Many times he has time to make quick decisive decisions....he is a one read QB.....terrible.
I see Waddle and Parker running free downfield....and he simply does not have the confidence to throw downfield.
Case in point. In yesterdays game he had a free play as NE jumped offsides.......Waddle knew this and streaked with ease down the sideline and had not one....but 2 steps on the DB.....and what does Tua do...he throws a 10-12 yard pass in the middle of the field (incomplete mind you). So this is inexcusable....he has zero confidence to go down the field with velocity and accuracy....HE IS NOT AN NFL starting caliber QB and I am getting more and more a sneaking suspicion that this was Flores’s call and not Grier.
Grier very well may have wanted Herbert (who has a cannon) who can flick his wrist for a 30 yard pass with ease.
The 2020 draft has been an unmitigated disaster......case in point? This years team finished 9-8.....two straight winning seasons (10-6 in 2020) yet we are on the outside looking in. The team has talent. No question. A house cleaning in certain area’s is coming.
QB
OL
WR
RB
Flores had a lot more say than we may even know now that he has been fired. Dysfunction is now starting to look more and more evident as this unfolds.
I am willing to look for a stop gap of project for 2022 and sit tight for 2023 to attempt to draft another franchise QB. Or go for Watson if cleared.....anything but Tua coming back.
The Dolphins have a lot of possibilities. Strong draft capital, lots of cap space. they can go after a veteran like Wilson.....or....make a move for Baker Mayfield who’s 5th year option was picked up by the Browns so they would shoulder the salary load in any trade.
That kid played with a torn labrum all season yet is getting run outta town. Is he an upgrade to Tua? Yeah he could be. Live arm, and a far better leader. The fact Tua was not voted as a team captain speaks VOLUMES about this past season. His team does not believe in him....nope. And the play calling intuit second half yesterday also displayed the lack of confidence in Tua. Did he make a great play with his feet to clinch that game? Yes. He did. I give him props for that. I don’t question his desire to win. But he is not the answer......at all.
Joe Burrow plays with a very sub par OL.......case in point.
So the Fins have a lot of things to mull over here in the next 2 months.....but I love our defense and am very happy about where we sit with draft picks and cap space.
Grier is being retained......Flores was fired.....a lot is going to come out on the “why” and at the very core of that as now I am starting to believe they allowed Flores too much say in draft decisions and he flunked on the Tua pick over Herbert and Grier and Ross may have wanted Herbert......and Flores was allowed to get final say on it. I have seen that happen many times with head coaches.....they marry the wrong QB.
Great win last night......loved sticking it to the Pat’s and bump them out of a home playoff game......loved it. And BTQ Mac Jones did not look particularly impressive yesterday.....but it was easy to see his arm strength and physical measurables are much better than Tua’s. He has a much better arm in terms of strength.....his accuracy yesterday though was quite poor. And he looks like a rookie. The Pat’s will not survive round one....but they have a QB to build around.
We don’t.
