2025 Miami Dolphins - Draft 2025 (7 Viewers)

Traveling thru the mountains, just wanted to hit on the Draft

I’ll start with massive excitement for Achane who I mentioned if you scroll thru some of the pre draft pages, he’s got Warrick Dunn qualities if you remember him like I do. He was a border line Hall of Fame player for Bucs and Falcons. There’s a reason McDaniel almost wet himself when they selected him. 8-10 carries or touches a game is my guess and will fill a much needed void at RB
Runs 4.3 this dude is fast and he’s going to gash defenses

“A” for me at the 84th pick and rookie contract on what will be a centerpiece in a 2-3 Back attack and will open up even more passing and running lanes for everyone.

51-Cam F’n Smith as Howard has been put on notice. Smith can start immediately on slot receivers and learn CB1 skills from 2 of the best in recent years. Needham and Kohou now are firmly Nickel or Dime. Miami could lead the league in Interceptions loading up on Playmakers and while DB was not a need, Smith too good to pass up. Igbo is gone I would say.

“B” because it wasn’t a need but perhaps an “A” later on if Howard is gone in ‘24 and Smith is a new lock down for us and supplants him. It could offer a lot of roster flexibility when it comes time to pay Tua or the upcoming Wilkins extension

I hate phone typing.
Miami did well if I have a vote.

They passed on Torrence at OG from Florida, that had to be a gut punch for a few of you who might have felt OL was the priority but we’ve documented how poorly they’ve performed of the ones Miami drafted so I have more hope for the 2 players we took last night.

I hated watching Charbonett go 1 pick after Miami took Cam Smith but that made Achane all the sweeter at 84.

Achane was No 2 on my list after Bijan Robinson. Mike McDaniel was at the MoP Draft Luau Party and we traded notes.

I’ll be interested to see what some of your reactions are.

Looks like Miami is doing the best they can wpith the way the draft has fallen to them and their lack of picks. I think the TE run hurt them as they figured that one of those guys would make it to them. I think the kid from penn state is still out there.

I think if Miami wanted a TE they would have drafted one. They knew when the TE run was coming and could have traded up had they desired.

As deep as TE was, Phins clearly satisfied with Smythe and don’t view that position as one of need. I think in this offense it’s more like a 6th OL vs a vertical threat which Smythe is not.

I would have said don't be surprised if they took another RB, but I see they don't have a pick until the 7th round. Perhaps Chris Rodriguez in the 7th or as an UDFA?.

I think they wait to see how the Dalvin situation goes. Also swift is likely in play. Miami likely goes into training camp with the 5 guys they currently have. If dalvin gets released or becomes available miami can jettison 3/5 guys currently on the roster with minimal hits. I think the seventh rounders are for a big fat DT/NG type and a “whatever pick”

Think most Dolphins fans were expecting some sort of OL/TE combo with the 2 picks they had - got neither.

Still worried about the OLine - although Grier and McDaniel don’t seem concerned at all about it.

Guess they counting on Eichenberg, Jackson, etc to improve? Sign a vet or two post June 1?

Maybe not drafting OL is for the best since the only OL Grier has ever drafted that is worth a damn has been Hunt.

Dunno?

Ok. So now we have 20 udfa coming in for the weekend along with 4 picks and what do we know:

1)the Te position in this offense is not a priority. They are a blocker and much like the fullback more of an “outlet” pass than a matchup issue. We do have 2 move te prospects on the roster but how do they see the field with berrios and Wilson still in the team.
2) the rb room will be inexpensive. Dalvin might change that if something happens, but I think miami is set up like the pre-cmc 9ers.
3) this defense is going to be the key in this division. miami, the bills, and the jets all got better offensively this offseason so whichever team slows down the opposing offense and gets turnovers is going to matter.
4) finally: I get a sense miami is not done. Listening to Grier it seems like they went into the draft obviously knowing they weren’t going to solve every issue with 4 picks. They likely went with the “let’s see how this draft unfolds and go from there” we get a cap bump in June and I guess Ced Wilson comes to camp and likely gets traded near cutdowns Or stays if someone gets hurt.

Saw a stat yesterday that I’m not sure is accurate. UDFA’s made up 23% of all NFL players last year !?!

Anyone know if that’s true?

Not sure, but it sounds right given if you include practice squad players. These UDFAs could contribute in 2023: P Michael Turn, OK, Matt Turk's nephew. Nose tackle, Brandon Pili, USC, since Jenkins left. He got $100k guaranteed $. CB Ethan Bonner, Stanford, 4.39 40 proday, probably try at ST gunner and backup safety, got $80k guaranteed. Crossen could be cut, so we need a ST replacement.

Definitely the message to this point is TE is going to be a 6th OL/hybrid FB, Miami can line up Hill and Waddle wide, 7 blockers plus Tua and then hand off to Achane or others and free them for huge gashes and chunk plays

The Defense will set up plenty of short fields throughout the season, I expect Miami to have large leads by halftime and playing the pass a lot defensively as well as wanting to eat up large amounts of clock in the 2nd half offensively

The team is full of talent everywhere, and Miami will gain $14M from Jones on June 1st and Cedric Wilson is another $7M so they’re not done filling any holes they might have.

Found it real interesting that the TE drafted is the exact opposite of Gesicki, the anti Gesicki. Good blocker, physical and can break a tackle. Probably ticked McDaniel off as much as the rest of us that Gesicki never, never broke a tackle.

The Dolphins signed a bunch of UDFA rookies to the OL, both starting tackles from Michigan, including 7th rounder Ryan Hayes. One of them should make the team, perhaps a couple on the practice squad. Some are good at run blocking, some at pass protection, if they were good at both they would've been drafted early! We need a decent FA tackle like Cam Flemming to compete with Austin Jackson and backup Armstead.

We also signed a physical TE from Campbell University, Julian Hill, who also has athleticism and YAC ability. I had to look it up, Campbell is in NC. Competition between Tanner Conner, 6th rounder Elijah Higgins, and now Hill. At NT, we gave $100k to the big guy from USC. We also gave $80k to Ethan Bonner, a 4.4 40 CB from Stanford who will likely be tried at safety and ST gunner.

In June free agency, I think we go strong after Cam Flemming and a veteran NT.

I'm excited to see what Cam Smith and Devon Archane do in September. Rookie minicamp starts next week.

Cam Smith-9.68 out of a possible 10
Elijah Higgins-8.9, is he going to try and play TE? He's like 225 lbs
Ryan Hayes-8.9, started for Michigan last year at Tackle, Austin Jackson is on notice.

Rookie mini camp this weekend and while they didn't have a slew of picks I'm excited about to hear about the picks and which UDFAs come out with a shot.

Isaiah Wynn is a good one year buy-low OT for Miami. Wynn has good physical traits. We could sign one more veteran OL after June. Hopefulky, Liam improves or one of the rookie OTs sticks around till next year when the CAP will impact MIA more.

And this is exactly what Miami needs. He may or may not make the team, might be a swing man or back up, 6th man off the bench.
Miami isn't done wheeling and dealing and don't be surprised if Cook ends up starting Week 1 for them
100% agree.

Hope they use whatever resources/cap they have left to patch together an average Oline. Really the only glaring need left for them.

You guys are forgetting this line was solid as long as Armstead was in there. When he was out it was more of a challenge. I also think Miami is likely going to a 6 lineman set with the inline TE basically being another blocker/outlet, but the base grouping will be waddle/HIll RB and then a slot guy/move TE or fullback rounding out the sets. I think the interchangeability of Waddle/Hill/Achane mimics what The niners do with Cmac/Deebo/Aiyuk with the latter being bigger and the former being faster.

Armstead is indeed all world while in but hasn't played a full season yet.

These signings haven't moved the needle for me at all... I'll be surprised if they make the team, pleasantly surprised if they contribute. Happy if they're better than last year.
I still have the worry cloud about the OL. I think that Mike White will be better than 2 gloves but if they can't keep Tua upright ... cringe time. The rest of McD's offense I'm excited about... even the TEs

Gotcha. I agree to a point. Fact is until we get the cash injection from flushing Jones away its going to be a treadmill. The guys they brought in for rookie camp didn't look the part so they brought in these two guys. Lewan still out there as are a few other more costly Tackles. I think Miami goes to camp with this and then see what shakes out. they also have all their draft picks if they need to trade for a tackle later on in the "process"

Agreed. I'm still baffled, less than pleased, or whatever that they didn't secure something better.

Grier does and has done a lot of good things drafting/finding OL has not been one of them.

Have any of you started looking into some of these UDFAs?

You might want to put the tape on for Jackson State
SWAC Defensive player of the year

I got a hunch you might be looking at that new Middle LB you all wanted.
Vicious hitter, Clubber might be a good nickname for this one.

OTA reports starting to leak out...

and McD presser (before heading back the Heat sideline to pump up the crowd?)

What i took away from this was Achane looks special and our back up QBs are terrible if we lose Tua although I still feel like Sky and his experience thru the Playoffs is something they can build around. Sky is the future Don Strock on this team. But Achane is going to have a lot of mismatches and McDaniel is going to design plays specifically for him and to isolate him on a LB speeding up the sidelines on a wheel route with Hill on the other side drawing double coverage and Waddle underneath also occupying the better DBs.

I'm not sure where I have to draft him but he's going on every redraft team I can get him, won't be my RB1/2 but he slides in perfectly as a flex or RB3 for me. I can see him around 800 yds rush and another 500-600+ catching the ball, could be more. Tight Ends don't fill the box much in this offense so I think the 3rd highest producing receiver/RB in this offense can prosper.

One other note, the OL isn't exactly turning heads in these OTAs, flip side it would seem the defense is loaded with pressure from the Edge and playmakers throughout the secondary

And we're back to Dalvin Cook being a Miami Dolphin again, rumors running rampant that Coach MM wants to pair him with Achane
Where there's smoke there's fire

Tragic news in our community of Dolphins fans this week. We lost the man behind the hilarious Tuanon parody account. Eric leaves behind his wife and four children. Anything helps
Here's a link to his GoFundMe.
Dolphin players and wives and fans have been generous. First, AVG's wife donated $1,000. Then Cheetah with $7,000. Now, Tua with $10,000. Initial goal of $50k reached, so now the goal is $75k.

>>Eric Carmona, also known as FinsVicious, was a proud Navy veteran, and a die hard Miami Dolphins and Tua fan. But, most importantly, he was a great husband to Vanessa and an amazing father to his 4 children. Eric passed away Thursday early morning on his way to work at the young age of 30 and he will be missed by everyone who has been touched by his words and friendship. Funds are being raised in honor of Eric to help Vanessa and their children through this tragedy.<<

A buddy of mine is a season ticket holder. He's far from a diehard, but he's gotten to know some of them. Last year I went to a game with him and I got introduced to a guy who had been named Fan of the Year. At first I thought he was joking, but it was actually an award the NFL gives out to people like him. It opened my eyes to the notion that a lot of the guys you see on TV painting their faces and wearing silly costumes make use of their platform to do good works in the community, raise money, etc.

I've met Big E and Dolphreaky both have done really good work in the community. Dolphreaky most recently with the hurricane, she lives in SW FL.

The battle for #3, #4 WR will be intense. Ezukanma and Chosen are making noise in camp. Berrios will also be in the mix, along with Cracraft who made key catches early last year. Cedric Wilson could be odd man out, a trade is unlikely due to the $7 mil salary, but he did well in 2021 when pressed into action in Dallas.

I'd love a showcase and trade of Ced Wilson

Countdown to Cook signing with the Miami Dolphins
Miami had a trade in place back in March
If true, this would seem like one of those moves you make en route to a Super Bowl run.
I don't care if folks think he's lost a step, he's way better than almost anyone we have rostered right now
He likely would not have to carry it more than 12-15 times a game, and we have a hot shot rookie with speed for days to split drives with him.
I think it would be a major Home Run and easily the best RB Miami has seen since Ricky Williams

I absolutely get the allure, if signing him negates resigning Connor Williams and Zach Sieler, I'm out.

Achane has the potential to be really good

MoP you're gonna be happy with his IG story minutes ago.

He posted that on his Twitter, he basically is telling the NFL to go bleep themselves, he only wants to be a Miami Dolphin
I still think Achane is going to carve out a wonderful niche in this offense. Cook won't even have 240 carries IMHO.

And he's cooked in Dynasty but he's very juicy in redrafts IMHO. All I care about is 2023, the rest is just background noise.
#2-ESPN roster talent top to bottom. Cook improves the overall team, he doesn't drag it down. People that are saying he's got nothing left in the tank, that's total BS IMO.
