It's not good KJ

-Right now the starting left side of Miami's OL is LT-Patrick Paul #55 in the Draft last year and ranked very low by PFF during his time on the field. Miami did draft him 2nd Rd last year
The LG is Liam Eichenberg who was resigned for a paltry $2M and is entering his 5th season as one of the lowest rated OG in the NFL

RG-James Shields from Pitt and missed 3/4 of the season
RT-Austin Jackson, missed over half of last season

-Phins have like 9 or 10 picks int he Draft, I see them targeting Trapillo from BC, Grant from W&M, they're gonna have to try and look at guys like that
I hope they don't go OL in the 1st unless they trade back a few spots. They need multiple 2nd round selections to shore things up

Yeah, it is going to take some work and some luck to get things aligned on the front. I agree, their current draft position is probably not placing them in position to take a lineman (from a value standpoint). Hopefully they able to trade down, get decent value and gain picks in the process. Selfishly I don’t want to have to watch Achane run into a brick wall all next year.

Too early to say, but probably. I think we'd all be happier with the RB at pick 78 in this year's draft, or whatever pick they gave up for a 2024 4th to take him.
I expect Miami to draft a grinder on day 3 (Martinez if he's there, Jordan James, Ollie Gordon) and Wright to be kind of swing back who can fill in for either Achane or the grinder.

Speak for yourself. The more quick hitters they throw to Jonnu Smith the better my fantasy team in a TEP league will be. Part of the reason for so much Jonnu usage last year was double high safeties taking Tyreek and Waddle away while the OL was porous and caused Tua to constantly throw five-eight yard passes to Jonnu.

1.13 CB Jahdae Barron or WR Tetairoa McMillan on the idea Miami trades Tyreek Hill
-Weaker WR class of sorts but you shouldn't turn your nose up at all of them.
McMillan is 6-4/220+ would add some much needed size at one of the starting WR spots

I like Barron because he can be a defensive starter we draft that will actually see his 2nd contract here.
Go look at he depth charts for Philly, KC and Det, they're loaded with players the team drafted not a bunch if free agents or 1 year plugs
I'm tired of no consistency so I want to see the team draft players we'll have the long haul.

DB doesn't seem to be mentioned much for Dolphins' needs but we have Kohou and Duckie starting right now with Cam Smith behind them at CB and NB, not good.
We have 10 picks in the draft, we can address the holes in both the OL and DL later, this is an impact pick and we need to hit a home run desperately

What do I think Miami will actually do? Kenny Grant, DT from Michigan would be a safe pick for them but IDL is so deep, they can easily find a solid choice in the 2nd round
So while I like Grant a lot, might be the better DT vs Graham going higher, it would be a wasted pick in a way for a team that has a lot of holes they need to address
Holes they didn't address last year and things are only getting worse

The NFL could still investigate. It's 2 witnesses, his wife and MIL, versus Tyreek.

My round 1 odds:

Kelvin Banks, OT/G, Texas - 50%
Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas - 15%
Will Johnson CB, Michigan - 10%
Walter Nolen, DT, Ole Miss - 10%
Grey Zabel, OT, North Dakota State - 5%
Trade Down - 5%
Other - 5%

These aren't who I think they should take, purely my take after reading a bunch of mocks and break downs who I think they will take. I see a lot of people say DT, Graham will be long gone and other then Nolen the others seem more likely if they trade back into the 20's. The problem is I don't think anyone will stand out enough at 13 that teams will want to trade up. The OL and DL after the top few seems like a whole bunch of the same guy.

Bottom line, I would prefer a trade down, but I think that the dolphins are sitting in a good spot to get a draft "faller" with some of the skill guys who seem to be rising up boards before the draft starts.

Guys I like: any CB with a round 1 grade, Banks, Zabel, Nolen. On a trade down add the other Oregon OT and the Michigan DT to the list.

No where do we need a RB, WR, TE, and I'm ok with either of the safeties but I prefer some of the other guys later in the draft.

Guys like MBOW and Farmer I like for our lines, and there are a lot of zone corners and safeties on the second and third day of the draft. Same goes for Centers. Lots of Day 3 centeres with a lot of experience
 
Michigan DT Kenneth Grant was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 13th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

USA Today - Grade C; A magnet for double teams and a force against the run, the 6-4, 331-pounder will certainly make his presence felt for a Dolphins team needing to create more of a push up front. But Grant still has substantial work to do to harness his considerable athleticism in pass-rushing scenarios, and he might never be a prolific playmaker in the backfield. That makes this pick a little rich in a class that's long on interior defenders who can hold the point of attack.

Yahoo Sports - Grade B-; Kenneth Grant is a big, athletic nose tackle that will help the Dolphins get more physical against the run immediately. Grant has some pass rush upside that’s unusual for a 330-pound defensive tackle, but Miami’s offensive tackle situation is in such a tough spot.

CBS Sports - Grade B+; The Dolphins had to get an interior defensive lineman and Grant fits in perfectly. He is a big, power player who can line up next to Zach Sieler. I like this pick for a team desperate for defensive line help.

Just a few of the reactions. It's hard to argue against the pick even if it isn't a wow pick. Once you got past number 5, maybe number 6 if you think Jeanty is that special the next 15 or 20 guys all seem to grade out about the same by most so it really comes down to who you like best when your pick comes up. DT is a position of need for sure and it's not a reach pick that you shake your head and question (ie. Ted Ginn)
 
I’m a Michigan guy, so I’ve seen a ton of Grant. He’s the very definition of a safe pick that fills a need. He is ridiculously fast for a 330 pound guy. Beast against the run.

I would be more ok with the pick if we would have traded down and got him, but we don’t know if they tried or not. Seems like players 12ish thru 30 were all kinda evenly grouped, so there may not have been many teams looking to trade up.

I get it isn’t a need, but I really wanted them to go BPA with Warren falling to them. If Warren was gone, I’d really be more than ok with this pick. Best hope is Grant can be what Wilkins was for us.

Need to address the offensive line and secondary today obviously.

It's easy to argue the selection because there are tons of DT in the 2nd round that would be just as good for Miami and they could have had a shut down CB in Barron but watched him go to Denver to make a lethal pairing with Surtain, the Dolphins once again show a lack of ability to see the entire playing field in these drafts

Waste at 13 if you ask me when you have so many names along the DLine
I'd even argue Landon Jackson, the 6-7/280 lb Edge/DE would have made a nice pillar alongside Sieler who tips the scales at close to 300.
Jackson is going in the 2nd round, there are/were so many options here.

Not impressed at all, yes it fills a need on 1st and perhaps 2nd down, doubt we see a 350 lb Nose Tackle out there on 3rd down unless its short yardage
Kind of a role player more than a frontline starter

Grier doesn't deserve more than a "C" for this pick, anyone could have made it and I actually like other DTs better in this draft

The good news is we're going 2-15 and maybe we can lure Arch Manning away from making $5M a year at Ole Miss, likely closer to $10M at this point

Miami needed desperately to lock up the Top Corner in this class, Barron fell into their lap and they passed on him, that's going to cripple them.
The FO did pay Tua a lot of money less than a year ago, are they really wanting to tank or get in a better draft spot for next season?

How are they gonna win any games with that starting trio at Corner? Ramsey and the Phins have agreed to part ways so we must face reality

Miami has two 4th and 5th Rd picks, that would have been a much better time to grab a DT when you have possibly 3 starting holes in the Secondary and I seriously might be short changing them, could be 4 or even 5, I don't trust the new Safeties they signed

Same regime since 2016 that has produced absolutely NOTHING, NADA, ZIP, ZILCH, you can't give them the benefit of the doubt on anything, don't credit the Phins as if they didn't get a single phone call to move down so they're victims, they bring it on themselves, shouldn't be in this mess

But Grier pushed a lot of chips in and went for the big time with Hill and Ramsey, OK they tried and they swung and it didn't produce anything in the end, time to move on
Grier gets to start a new rebuild project? Why would they allow him to continue after repeated failures?

Going into the draft, I expected Grant to go in the 20’s to a good organization who scoops up value late in the first round and everyone else groans, ala the Ravens. He’s a better player than the other DT that’ll get drafted tonight. We’ll have to wait and see I guess.

But he's not even the best DT on his own college football team
I had him going in the 20s as well, not sure what happened to WIll Johnson but he's still on the board

I understand Grant is good but I listed a half dozen guys that are all pretty good that are going tonight.
Grant and any DB tonight vs
Barron and any DT I named that could be taken tonight
The gap between Grant and the other DTs I listed is not as great and won't be felt as much as the difference between Barron and say Revel, Porter or Thomas at DB

Miami Secondary right now is scary and it will still be scary after tonight no matter who they select.
Owner is a Michigan Alum so I wasn't surprised with so many taken last night that Phins would be one of them.
 
I just don't see the point in this endless cycle of using all our premium draft picks to replace positions we already had good players at, but let walk.

This isn't going to be a popular opinion, but when we have a young stud or good player at a position, we should just pay them. Or find another way to replace them that isn't using our premium draft capital, and spend that on guys that we actually think will help us get BETTER, not guys who will make us get less bad.

If we already weren't good enough to win a Super Bowl with that player, how are we going to be good enough when we use our best way to get better (draft capital) getting a lessor version of that player we already had? It's just an endless cycle of staying mediocre, but in a BEST case scenario, because odds are the guy we draft is going to be significantly worse than that guy we just let walk, and maybe a complete bust.

The cap can be manipulated and figured out via creative accounting. You can't creatively account your way to more 1st round picks. Every year we hear about how the Rams are screwed, how they have no cap space and are going to have to cut all of their good players, yet year after year they find ways to retain those guys and even go shopping for other expensive guys.

I dunno, I'm just jaded by this constant cycle of using our picks to get guys that we hope are as good as the guys we already had when we weren't good enough. What's the absolute best case upside for Kenneth Grant? Maybe in a perfect world he'll be as good as......Christian Wilkins. You know, the guy we already had that didn't make us good enough. And most likely, he'll be worse.

We worry so much about the "cost" of retaining guys but spending a 1st or 2nd round pick to replace them is a "cost" as well, and a very expensive one, especially given that a lot of the time we do it we don't end up getting an adequate replacement at that cost. But it just builds in from the get-go that the best case scenario is that we're going to maintain the status quo, instead of being able to try to use our picks to actually get better.

That is exactly the problem you describe

We lost Wilkins, Van Ginkle, Holland, Hunt and then used a lot of draft capital to bring in Hill and Ramsey, both were acquired using a 1st round pick, a 2nd was added for Hill plus other later round picks to KC and they've been to 3 Super Bowls in a row since they parted with him, add in another 1st round pick the owner was penalized for plus a 3rd

This is what you get and Grier is only being discussed as a future VP even when they bring in the next General Manager so he's not going any where
I can't say exactly where I heard this or know this but Grier is in no way worried about job security. He's been thru multiple head coaches, Ross won't fire him
Plus Grier has incriminating evidence behind the scenes on Ross, now that last part is pure Wreckless Speculation :lol:
 
I think we are all beyond frustrated at this point. I’m definitely not going to argue that the front office is dysfunctional. If it were up to me, Grier would have been gone long ago. My opinion on the pick is just the reality of the situation. I would be very disappointed if they had a trade partner to move down and didn’t take it. But based on the lack of teams trading up into this range of the draft I’m guessing that there were no trades to be had. It’s not like teams were tripping over themselves to trade up for Barron or Warren or any of the offensive lineman who were left.

I think we’re a 6-7 win team at best no matter who we draft this season. Hopefully this time next year we have a different regime, but my hopes are always low with this team. Best case scenario is the bottom falls out early and we win 3 games, clean house and get a top pick. Sad reality for this once proud organization.

I am under estimating Grant a lot, you're right and I'm not trying to be funny
He's a quality DT that most years we would be delighted to have but after they already did this with Wilkins and with so many in a deep DT class,...
I would have preferred Barron but Grant by all admission on my part was very high on the IDL I put together but I didn't want to burn 13 on him
I'm sure he will become the Captain of that Defense quickly.

-You are going to compare the careers of Grant, Barron and perhaps Will Johnson and Grey Zabel because those were the only names most Miami fans were talking about
I agree with you on Warren and would have loved him coming on to the team if Hill is leaving and change the look of the offense with more pop at RB and TE.
Miami could add 1 more strong RB and still bring in a decent TE prospect like Fannin who I like a lot, the offense would change and be more ball control to hide that defense

Still no answers in the Secondary however...

That is what Miami is sitting on right now, I honestly would not cry if they grabbed one more DT from this rich class in the 2nd and revamp the whole DL
New blood on the DL, Chop Year 2, Chubb and Phillips on the Edges providing pass rush, you'd have a whole new look on Defense
Miami could also look at a couple Safeties in the 2nd round

-I think Miami should wait on OL now, the guys in the 2nd are just OK, better off filling in the OL 4th and 5th round, Willie Lampkin from NC is high on my list, just a pure road grader

Nohl Williams, Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson both from Kansas and Dorian Strong from Va Tech all make decent DB prospects with all the openings right now in the Secondary

We reached on our 1st and second rounder.....I am sick and tired of this guy reaching. We reached on Tua....yeah we did folks....ridiculous we took him over Herbert. That 2020 draft was the beginning of the end everyone.

All three picks are busts. You don't recover from that. And this team has not.

We reached on Waddle......yeah we did. Could have had Jamar Chase. Could have had Devonte Smith...or how about Parsons? HUGE WIFF.

Phillips we all knew was a major injury risk based on his college years and concussion issues....the guy sat out an entire year of college and contemplated quitting....but yeah we take guys with injury issues all the time.

Grant will have serious problems staying on the field at the NFL level unless he takes his physical conditioning very seriously. He is out of shape, could not finish games in college in cooler climates.....dude has red flags on him......we could have had better prospects than this at 13.

I am so sick and tired of the new generation of Dolphin fans who have zero clue of how proud this franchise was at one time and run competently. No idea about our history......the team the last 25 years has been an embarrassment.

Ross is a clueless owner who cares about one thing. Ticket sales and revenue 1000%. Wins, losses? He does not care as long as season tickets are sold out....and we have 40K people walking around in Tua jerseys clueless that we don't have a legit QB, legit coach or legit GM.

We are a laughing stock.

5 wins max.

I broke up with these guys after that debacle in 2020.....got **** teased in 2023 for about 2 months. That's all they have to show for all this....2 months of high flying offense vs under .500 teams.

Go check out this turd of QB's record vs teams over .500 and check out his record vs Buffalo.

Nuff said.
