Sam Burns shooting 65 on that golf course is ridiculous.
Jason Day with a 66. Pretty good too.
I thnk it shows that the golf course was done right. Scoring average is near 5 over, but if you're playing great golf you can still put up a great round.
I disagree. The length of the rough has removed all scrambling skills. The players who rate high in scrambling and have a deft touch around the green, no longer have an advantage. Whether you roll 6" into the rough or 6 yards, it still seems to be a guessing game on how hard to hit the ball out.

I think if the course had another row of intermediate rough at half the height of the primary rough, it would have served them well for shots that just missed the fairway, or rolled out a little further than expected.

Make it a little wider, or have the grass on the intermediate rough a little longer to stop balls from rolling into the primary.

I'm ok with scrambling not being rewarded, even if I disagree with you on that.(I think it's been very apparent that some of the guys are doing a better job of figuring out how hard/soft to hit it out of the rough than others).

It's the US Open. If the fairway is 18 yards wide and you hit it 15 yards right of center, you deserve to be punished. If you hit it over the green, I don't care if it's by a yard or ten, you deserve to be punished.

The guys leading this are showing that if you play great golf, you're gonna score well. Sam Burns had a 65 today. If you're not playing A+ golf, you shouldn't be given a chance to win this just because you're good at overcoming your screw ups. There's a lot of tourneys where good scrambling will give you a chance to win. I'm happy the US Open isn't one of them. Either have everything working in your bag, or lose. That's what this tourney should be.

I just think the course does not have to be so black and white regarding hitting a perfect shot or not hitting a perfect shot.

You hit it good - You are on the fairway.
You hit it pretty good - You're in the rough and have a horrible shot.
You hit it bad - You're in the rough and have a horrible shot.

Rory wins his green jacket and goes right back to being an unlikeable little cry baby. Throwing clubs....smashing the tee marker. Grow up, pal. You've got the career grand slam and like $500M in the bank. Its gonna be ok.

Lowry too. Tough Friday for the Irish

This is a great test of having to play precision golf. Shots have to be in certain spots in the fairways and on the greens. This is a very demanding golf course and it's fair in my opinion. Bogeys are going to happen. Those that limit the double bogeys and worse have the best chance to win. In addition, they have to be mentally tough enough to handle the swings. It's a grueling test and is definitely not for the faint of heart and I love it.

This is kind of where I am, too. I'm not smart enough to know whether the course is too penal, but I like watching these guys try to dig themselves out of trouble. I don't know if I'd want to watch it every week, but it's once a year. I think pretty much everyone who made the cut still has a chance.

Two questions:

1. How much rain did they get yesterday evening?

2. Are there any streaming options for the conclusion of round 2 this morning? Doesn't appear USA or NBC is.

Make it a little wider, or have the grass on the intermediate rough a little longer to stop balls from rolling into the primary.

This is the only thing keeping this course from being the perfect test of golf this weekend. I was surprised when I first tuned in to see how narrow the first cut was and it's clearly not stopping balls that are just slightly off-center in the fairway from rolling into the cabbage.

The guy who misses being dead center by 4-5 yards shouldn't be suffering the same fate as the guy who's so far left or right that he's on the wrong side of the bunker.

Another nation of followers in mourning, too. The DeChamBros.

I'm glad I faded both of them this week in my pick 3 pool. Went with Scottie/Rahm/Morikora instead.

I like Rory, but I kind of want to see him shoot in the 90s today. The club throw was fine. Smashing the tee box marker was not fine. Now he's whining about greens.

Here comes the rain :lmao: I’ve caddied in this…trying to keep your player, clubs, gloves, ball dry while you get drenched is…a challenge. Not to mention the player has to hit a shot with rain pelting him.

He's a mess right now.
Don't be surprised when he retires out of the blue.
Oof. That doesn't sound good. Crazy after winning Pebble, The Players, and the Masters this year. He's not happy the non-conforming driver issue got leaked. Did that really mess him up that bad?

:lmao: It’s a phase. He’s been the most accessible golfer in the world for as long as we can remember. He just climbed Everest. He’ll be dialed in for Port Rush.

I imagine It's also personal life w Rory. They are moving to England. It's a lot for anyone to handle. Career grand slam. Being in contention so many times this year. Commenting on LIV for 2 years Ryder Cups. Being the PGAT spokesman for a while. Wife and kid on one coast while he partially lives in Jupiter. It's a lot to ask of one person and I'm sure it's exhausting. Easy to say he gets paid to handle it, but in the end he's human.

I think Lowry is the bigger disappointment of the Irishmen. That guy has nothing on his back and he has had a few meltdowns with fans and was a mess this week.

I love what Montgomery said. You got the best technology in the world now. Hit the damn fairway

I kinda want to like the guy (Rory) but man he makes it hard.

Lowry seems like a great hang, but yeah he's been really "touchy" lately. What's the word on him?

Apparently Wyndham Clark destroyed multiple lockers yesterday after missing the cut.

Dude has major anger issues. Don't want him anywhere near the Ryder cup team. Total one hit wonder

This may be the oddest U.S. Open Rd 4 leaderboard I can remember.

I really thought someone like Scheffler and/or Koepka would make a run yesterday and at least some of the leaders would fall back.

Should be fun today in any case.
