Under the radar: Ugo Amadi was CB1 in my league weeks 8-18. Adebo’s gone and Amadi’s back. New DC so we can’t rely on his role being the same, but he should be rostered in case it is.
Huh. Funny. Interesting tip. Do you mind if I expound a little? I dropped him to get down to the Zealots forty-man roster. I watched him at the end of the year, and he can't cover to save his life. They wrote an article about him two days after the Saints got killed up in Green Bay and the writer was not kind to Amadi.
He was in the slot a lot, but he was only getting 50%-70% of the snaps when I had him. So I turned him loose after the year. He's not great in coverage and he's a fourth-round pick that's bounced from Seattle (who drafted him in 2019) to Philly to Tennesee to KC to NO. He's moved from team-to-team pretty rapidly since 2022. Four teams. He's been traded by Philly within ten days of his arrival in a trade from Seattle in 2022, traded to Tennessee from Philly ten days later, waived from Tennessee, couldn't carve out a role in KC, and now he plays for NO.
His snap shares decreased last year from Week 14 at 100% to Week 15 at 79%; to Week 16 at 61%; and then to Week 17 at 48%. Then back up to 70% for Week 18. He finished as CB31 but he did average 13.5 points or so when he played, which puts him in first place among all CBs. So I don't know. He only played because Adebo was injured, but as you note, Adebo is gone.
I don't know what to make of it. I appreciate the tip, but I'd temper expectations if I were the reader. He'll wind up off the field if he doesn't get better in coverage. Unless, of course, NO doesn't have anybody else, which given their cap situation is completely possible. If he's on the field playing that teams' slot corner, then yeah, definitely fire him up. If he bounces around or the situation changes, I'd be wary. And he's also the kind of guy that can get yanked off of the field in a game because of his coverage, so that's something to consider. He was 180th out of 222 CBs in coverage grade from PFF, clocking in with a grade of 50.0. His overall grade was a 55.2, good for 160th out of 222.
So that's his story, really. Probably way too much and you probably know all that, but he was my slot corner for the playoffs this year until the finals (thank God I rested him because of his plummeting snap count, although it didn't matter because I got wiped and trucked in the same week) from about Week 12 on, so yeah, I'm familiar and can share some musings.
