2025 Philadelphia Eagles - Season hasn't started, but roster games are being played. (52 Viewers)

We are also trading a 7th round pick to JAX to bring Fred Johnson back and improve their swing tackle depth.

All 3 trades this preseason are addressing needs that they tried to fill with the players on the current roster, but didn’t see that pan out.
I love this move. I kinda had this in the back of my mind as a possibility. A 7th is a great investment in getting him back.
Well…. If they gave him up for a 7 they were going to cut him. So he can’t be very good.
Would you say that’s right?
All I can say is that the guy was good in the Eagles’ system but got an offer that was more than the Eagles wanted to pay during FA, but the Eagles are 32 in the waiver line now and they do need some OL depth help, so

QB Kyle McCord
QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson
RB Montrell Johnson
RB Keiland Robinson
RB ShunDerrick Powell
WR Terrace Marshall
WR Elijah Cooks
TE Tanner Muse
TE EJ Jenkins
OL Kenyon Green
ED Ochaun Mathis
S Maxen Hook
S Andre Sam
S Lewis Cine
CB Eli Ricks
CB AJ Woods

so who is QB3? Really thought McCord would make the 53. And isn't McKee out for few weeks? Meaning at the moment we don't have a backup QB at all?

So we basically just cut CJGJ
One day, we'll hear about what he did to make us tear up the contract one year after signing and and helping us win the Super Bowl
The only thing I heard was that CJ called out Slay in front of the locker room after going on Micah’s podcast and calling him out. Several players and coaches plus Jeff and Howie weren’t thrilled with Slay and several vets had a talk with him after. Had it been someone with not much talent as Slay they would’ve been cut after the pod ended. Sounded more like they just wanted both off the team (there was talk of wanting to bring Slay back one more year before the incident) after that. There’s apparently no crazy story about CJ and people I talk too said CJ is just an easy enough target for those trying to get YouTube hits etc post something crazy about and then be vague when they probably don’t know anything at all.

Both got into each other faces but nothing more physical happened and several players privately agreeded with CJ. Slay is suppose to be a captain and team leader and just can’t be doing that stuff. Slay seemed to have a vendetta vs CJ because several of the young DBs made mistakes too but slay singled out only CJ so people felt that was personal

I wonder if they try and sign DTR to the practice squad and activate him in case of emergency. He looked OK early in camp, but then turned into a pumpkin.

Philly always loves to have a developmental QB, so if McCord doesn’t get signed to PS, it says a lot about what they think of his future.

It’s possible they only dress Jalen and Howell the first 2 games, I guess.

Honestly would have been fine with McKee 2 and McCord 3. Not sure Howell offers much more then them. Have to assume the mean to bring McCord back on PS if they can

I think Howie has another trade brewing before the deadline. I hope we get another decent rotational EDGE player today.
Yeah he definitely has something up his sleeve and if its this close and taking this long, I'm leaning more to a minor major move than some depth piece trade for another 6th round pick.

CB2/Edge would be my top choice

Howell has started in the league. I think he's a great #3 behind McKee. Try and get McCord on the PS to develop.

I'm ok with that, but nervous he wont clear. Really liked what I saw from him

I think he’ll clear waivers. Out of curiosity, what did you see that you liked?

I’m mostly going off short highlight clips and have been swayed by beat reporters, but he strikes me as JAG with decent processing speed and a weaker than expected arm.

Yeah I'm fine with letting McCord on the PS and if he doesn't make it so be it.

McKee injury put a wrench in things and we just need a viable backup for week 1.

Enter Sam Howell

My guess is Sam will be the coach up to McKee throughout the season and next year, the Eagles try to trade McKee, maybe bring back Howell as a true backup QB.

But I just don't think that's how the #QBFactory works, they always want someone in the pipeline to develop and trade later so we shall see I guess

I don't see another team claiming McCord

A few interesting names that were Cut that Eagles could have interest in.

QB wise

Hendon Hooker and Kyle Trask Eagles could keep the Italian theme going as Giants Tommy “Cutlets” DeVitto was cut.

Malachi Corley a WR with some return ability was cut by the jets and former Joe Douglas pick. Joe is back with the Eagles

Greg Dulcich TE was cut by Giants he’s dealt with injuries but has potential and only 25

Jalen Mills was cut. Could we see a reunion?

TB CUT 400lb NT Desmond Watson. Watson was talked up as a potentional Brotherly shove stopper. Howie could troll the NFL and sign him to the PS. Watson has been working on cutting weight and building more stamina with the TB but moves pretty dam well for his size.

In funny new Dal released La’el Collins. Dal fans propped this guy up as a future HoF at one point

Former giants LB Isiah Simmons was cut by GB wonder if the Eagles still have any interest as a rejuvenation project. Led Pack in Tackles preseason but also in misses.

I’d bet large amounts of cash that no LB gets signed by the Birds. The LB room, for the first time in years, is already too crowded with top talent. Baun and Campbell starting, Trot Jr. could easily start for a lot of other teams and Smael Monden developing and showing flashes. Plus, Nakobe coming back from injury week 6ish?

Simmons isn’t better than any of them.

Yeah no chance we are signing any LBs when we are paying just 1 guy and everyone else is on rookie deals and the talent level might not ever be this high again

What are you guys hearing about trade rumors today? Talking heads are talking about Trayvon Walker and Penn State product Arnold Ekibetie.

I’d like either one, but Ekibetie seems like a better fit for Vic’s scheme.

Yeah, Walker is serious wishcasting, and probably prohibitively expensive with JCs contract coming up, and Reed’s still coming.

Ekibetie, I figure he’s another WIP “Hey, here’s a guy that would be awesome” just because he’s a Penn State product. ATL probably has no interest in moving him.

But, I’m waiting and hoping on some talent at EDGE.

Jason Kelce will have a new sister in law very soon as brother Travis and Taylor Swift announce their engagement. That’s one hell of a sister in law to have.

That’s really all it is with these PSU guys anymore. Many of the ones people hype up are just JAGs. I doubt ATL trades him as they need edge rushers too.

No chance at Walker. I heard 1st rounder, Ringo and a 3rd rounder for him.
Honestly, I’d consider that. Maybe ask for a 5th back, or something. But Ringo is basically done here. A 1st and a 3rd is pretty rich, but he’d be an immediate huge upgrade at EDGE, and still has the 5th year option for ‘26.

I don’t expect it to get done, but 2 years double-digit sacks on the Jags?!?! Imagine what he could do here.

I don't see any universe where the Eagles give up a 1st round pick and 5 years of control for Walker and 2 years of control.

I hear you- it’s really, really unlikely. But the hopeful part of me is like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber: “So, you’re telling me there’s a chance?”

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. Walker for a 1st? Hell yes!

For a 1st and a 3rd? ehhh, maybe, but give me something back or make it a ‘26 3rd.

good decision making, decent timing. Decent athleticism. As you said only an average arm but looked good for a rookie with low investment. Deserves a chance to develop

Dean will start on PUP List eligibility to come off week 5

He's not coming off PUP by week 5. He'll be lucky to play this season, but if I had to guess, I'd say December would be around where he might get cleared. Thinking Tyler Higbee type timeline, though Higbee tore his ACL/MCL (in the same playoff round as Dean) and the recovery is slightly faster for his injury, but he didn't come off PUP until December 17th.

Eli Ricks the only real surprise and it's not truly a surprise considering how he underperformed.
I’m more surprised they cut Ainias. I thought for sure they’d keep 6 WR. And now who the hell is gonna do Punt Returns? Dotson?
GUessing he'll be a quick PS signing who can be easily activated if any other first 5 go down for more then a week or two

Nevermind he was cut

So, all of the vets have :wink, wink: deals to sign on the PS and use the 3 call up rules. The LS for sure.

Floodgates open at noon with waiver claims being processed and practice squads being assembled. Given that we don't have a LS or a clear PR on the 53, the Week 1 strategy for gameday will come into focus today.

Things to remember:
  • Successful waiver claims have to go on the 53-man roster
  • We are last in waiver order (we won SB59), so unlikely anyone worth a roster spot makes their way to us
  • Practice squad size is 16 (17 if you have an international exempt player, which we do: OT Laekin Vakalahi)
  • 2 players can be "called up" from the PS to the active roster on game day, with an individual player maximum of 2 times per season. After 2 call-ups, the player can't come off the PS unless they are signed to the active roster (and they have to stay on the roster a minimum of 3 weeks)
  • Vets with 4+ years in the NFL have their salary guaranteed for the entire year if they are on the Week 1 53-man roster. So that's probably why someone like LS Charley Hughlett was cut. He can go to the PS, get called up for Week 1 (and maybe even Week 2) before the team has to figure out how to open a 53-man spot for him for the rest of the season, and if he were to get cut for some reason during the season, none of his unpaid money goes against the cap.
