2025 Philadelphia Eagles - Fare thee well, Eagles legend Charley Hughlett (38 Viewers)

Is AJ breaking up with us?

He grabbed his keys and said he was just going out for smokes.
Just friggin fix the passing offense man. This isn't THAT hard....

You can't fix the passing offense because Hurts cannot sustain a passing offense. He's running QB first and foremost. He runs because he can't pass very well and the offense is built around that, not passing. Heck, even running he can barely get over the goal line w/out needing help.

When the tush push gets banned next year he's going to be in trouble.
JFC, would you quit with the anti tush push stuff? It is NOT what has made Hurts effective, that's an absurd statement that has been debunked statistically numerous times
Just because you disagree with it does not make it "debunked".

Your opinion is greatly appreciated but don't try to pass that off as fact.
Super Bowl ring says debunked on the side of it
Irrelevant to the original question of "fix the passing offense".

I would also like to point out that Trent Dilfer also has a Super Bowl ring, so that would "debunk" the "has a Super Bow ring so he must be an awesome passer" argument.

Packers fan right? Tied the Cowboys right?

Let me know if I'm wrong, trying to set a foundation of reality here
Distraction won't work. Regardless of whatever team I may root for, that doesn't change the fact that Hurts isn't a very good passer.

I realize you want to change the narrative because, well, SIDEZ!!!, but looking to attack the messenger is not how you win arguments.
You are coming into a thread of the Super Bowl Champs from last year, who are off to a 4-0 start while not looking good at all - but beating 2 for sure playoff teams, probably another in the Chiefs, but also beating the team you guys literally just tied with, while they were at full strength.

Might want to look into the mirror to see who is trying to distract who

Hurts is 4 win away from breaking the all-time record for most wins in a row by a QB.

You guys are letting a poster who's team just tied the Cowboys, a team that a Hurts led team beat multiple times last season. You're letting that guy derail the thread with demurrer arguments?

See the post above. Ad-Hominem attacks don't disprove my argument and they certainly don't prove yours.

You should learn what demurrer means. Here is a translation: Even if everything you said was true . . . so what?

You're argument is a nothing argument because the things that you're arguing really don't matter when it comes to being a winning QB.

Not talking about the Eagles, I'm talking about Hurts. Is there some kind of Eagles Review Board I have to submit questions to in order to get a topic to talk about approved?

Be better than using Ad-Hominem attacks at posters simply because you don't want discuss and/or face a topic.

Saying a person is using a demurrer argument isn't an ad hominem attack. It's an attack on the argument which in this case is specious to begin with, and not really relevant at all to what matters for winning football games.

Specious means plausible but actually wrong. Just this morning, Ron Jaworski after watching the All-22s of the TB game said, "AJ Brown was not getting open." So yes, your argument is specious.

As for my use of the term demurrer and your reply. . . this is an example of an ad hominem attack. See the difference?

I guess EVENTUALLY the Hurts naysayers and haters will be proven right. Hopefully it's after another Super Bowl victory or two....but I'm fine with a regular season MVP runner up, two Super Bowl appearances, a Super Bowl win, a Super Bowl MVP and beating pretty much every other QB supposedly better than him in the head to head matchups in the past few regular seasons.

It’s the same nonsense over and over. Yes, he is not a QB who can carry a team by himself with his arm. How many QB’s today are? 🤔

He needs a good supporting cast like most QB’s. When he has that, he does awesome most times 🤷‍♂️

The reason you keep hearing it is because it's true. And you everyone knows it's true. He's not a terrible QB, he's just another run of the mill running QB who runs because the passing skills are not there. Sure, he has good days, but has mostly average or bad days and it's a reason he runs and needs help getting over goal lines. You're so wowed by the running stats and assisted TDs it never occurred to any of you to look at his passing. You're paying a RB to play the QB position.
I get it, you want attention and I hope you get it 😂
Isn’t he a jets fan? Sucks having Fields at QB and a terrible GM

I hate the QB wins stat. It’s so team dependent. You got guys like Marino who’d have more wins if the team around him wasn’t so bad, or Peyton Manning would have more SB apps if his defebse played better

The Philadelphia Eagles may be undefeated, but the price of victory is starting to mount.

Jalen Carter, who has been battling a shoulder issue since training camp, reaggravated the injury in Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay. He left in the second half, was listed as questionable, but came back to finish the fight alongside his teammates, showing grit and toughness Philly fans know well.

Now, Carter will undergo further testing to determine the extent of the damage. His status moving forward will be crucial, with the defensive line relying heavily on his disruptive presence in the trenches.

The Eagles also lost Ogbo Okoronkwo and Lane Johnson during the game, adding to the concern.

Philly is 4-0, but the real test begins now, can the Eagles stay healthy enough to chase another deep postseason run?

How many yards did you have to move the goal posts to add that additional qualifier on once I sunk your "Super Bowl Ring" argument?

Yeah, was thinking a bit about this today. The Eagles have had a tough schedule and are getting the best other teams can give. I'm concerned about the inconsistency on offense BUT they have shown they can be explosive. Last year they were 2-2 after four games and didn't look so great then either. The season is still pretty young, and Nick and this team have earned a little trust/leeway.
I don’t agree with a lot of ESP’s takes but he had one the other day I agreed with. I’m paraphrasing but he was basically saying we’re now at a level where we’re being judged like dominant college programs. Where if we don’t win a certain way or by so many points it’s almost a negative. I couldn’t agree more.

We lost a lot of quality players and coaches (how many OC’s is it now for Hurts?), have some poor play, younger starters and players dinged up. That’s all before you factors in the opening schedule. With all that said we’re 4-0. Patullo has been overall what I think rational people expected. We were never going to replace Moore’s experience. As bad as the offense is at times it’s shown some flashes. Hopefully they become more consistent.
I heard this take too. I'll listen to his early morning POD sometimes when I'm walking the dog before sunrise out here, but I agree with the sentiment. Its no longer about winning but how it looks/whether this really becomes a dynasty, etc

Until we start losing of course

Right?
Wrong, anyone can come in here. Notice how members of the Cowboys thread were asking ME to leave when Micah Parsons got traded, we are built different.

I'm just saying lol look in the mirror. Packers fan, of a team that is 2-1-1, losing to a beat up Cowboys team

THEN coming into the Eagles thread to talk crap about hurts

Its just funny man lighten up broski

1 guy iirc. All are welcome in the cowboys thread imo. It’s the team thread, not a fan page.

Anyone that types a post in the eagles thread without one hand on the eagles junk gets the troll treatment from the toughest fan base in the league. Some things never change

I humbly respect your opinion, but your original statement that I responded to was "Super Bowl ring says debunked on the side of it", to which I replied "Trent Dilfer also has a Super Bowl ring".

After realizing your statement was countered and parried with relative ease, you then had to save face and add an ADDITIONAL qualifier on to it "Was Dilfer MVP?" which, of course, means you would have kept narrowing down and adding more and more qualifiers to get to your supposition.

He is not the best QB in the NFL and certainly not one of the better passers in the NFL, but that is all opinion, of course.

And I can relate to having the best QB in the NFL. As a Packers fan, Aaron Rodgers had like 3 MVPs in a row (sorry YOU can't relate to that) and a Super Bowl ring as well. So, yeah, even that statement by you was "debunked".

Before you even get to the QB throwing the ball, there are a number of events that need to happen.

1. The play call and play design need to be called and designed properly. The Eagles are way to predictable in certain formations.
2. You need to properly identify the defense and set up the blocking scheme and audible if necessary.
3. Once set, you need the offensive line to block properly.
4. You need the receivers to win their one-on-one and sometimes one-on-two battles.

Then, if all that happens, you need the QB to be able to deliver the ball on time and accurately. You're jumping straight to the end and disregarding all the other things that go into a play. But again, I say your argument is a demurrer argument because even when things break down during a play, or a quarter, or a half, the QB and the team are doing enough to win the game. That's what's important. It doesn't have to look pretty, it just has to be effective. I think fantasy football has really ruined peoples perceptions of what really matters.

It's not specious to the original statement to which I responded to, which was "fix the passing offense", which I literally stated in the post directly above yours.

I feel like you just wanted to use the word "demurrer" in a sentence to a) dismiss the topic w/out actually addressing the argument being put forth and b) show everyone how cool you are by using one of them fancy words.

I respect your OPINION, but it's nothing but an opinion and doesn't do anything to a) disprove my point or b) prove yours.

You may think it's "specious" but, again, it's just a way for you to avoid having to talk about the topic. Again, while I respect your opinion, I must "demur" on your analysis as it seems to me it's simply a case of Homerism.

Meh, Ceedee had stone hand syndrome and 2 miraculous blocks or you’re 2-2
:coffee:

Hurts is 4 win away from breaking the all-time record for most wins in a row by a QB.

You guys are letting a poster who's team just tied the Cowboys, a team that a Hurts led team beat multiple times last season. You're letting that guy derail the thread with demurrer arguments?
I hate the QB wins stat. It’s so team dependent. You got guys like Marino who’d have more wins if the team around him wasn’t so bad, or Peyton Manning would have more SB apps if his defebse played better

You will admit that the QB is a huge part of team success, probably the most important part.

Yeah, this has kind of been on my mind all weekend. I'm a redraft league where I took Hurts. I normally wouldn't have, but I was tired and a bit out of it from traveling and I had forgotten our league went from 4 pt. passing TDs to 6, so Hurts was a dumb draft pick even at the later stage where I got him. I am not bitter about it at all, but I've been watching and I'm just more than confused with your OC. Perhaps there's a good reason, but damn you guys were close to losing three games with that team and that set of skill players.

Here's Greg Cosell, who is very respected around the league and tells it nicely but fairly:

There are more, but I have limited time to find and get the exact spot cued up, etc.

The Eagles have made a move at long snapper

They have signed Cal Adomitis to the active roster and placed LS Charley Hughlett on injured reserve

DE Ogbo Okoronkwo has also been placed on injured reserve

Oh it it is I’m just saying it’s like arguing wins and loses for starting pitchers
