2025 Philadelphia Eagles - Lane Johnson has entered the late-stage Jason Peters phase: great when out there, but can’t stay out there a full season. (97 Viewers)

We are going back to the superbowl
This defense is too good.

and we know what the offense can be. if we get number 1 seed i feel pretty damn good about it
Can be and will be are not the same thing. The defense is great but at some point the offense has to play better. You guys are the favorites right now but there's a long way to go.
Absolutely. Offense can't coast by forever. We have all the pieces from last year. So it's there. It just amazes me the play calling has been so bad this year to hinder it.

You're not wrong, the offense MUST be better, which is basically the thesis of AJ Brown's season long complaints.

Basically they can't win a Super Bowl like this, and they know it. Hopefully as the season continues to progress and the OC learns more of what works/what doesn't work (but just typing that out itself I say 'no we can't win a SB') hopefully we can have more of those better games where everything clicks. I don't see it as likely and just hopeful the team continues to be hot, win games and just go on a run bc..

This defense is insane. Allowing 7 points, then 9 points to a team that scores 30+ points every other game. I heard on NFL N this morning that Goff completed just 2 of his last 20 passes....finished with a career low completion %

He was rattled. They prob should have kicked the ball some on 4th downs. I dont think i have ever seen that many 4th down stops in one game.

Sirianni running back to back tush pushes, in his own territory with the back up center nearly gave me an aneurysm

Why he did that up by 2 scores late is inexcusable. With Lions struggling to move the ball all night, punt it away and make Lions use up the clock.
I normally think Nick is a good to very good in game manager but the last two weeks he has made some inexplicable decisions late in the game. It’s super frustrating.

I think he is just vibe chasing at this point - the win that last game with a deep catch or whatever to convert, game over "Offense sealed it for us"

Same thing w the Tush Push, I think its more a little of "Tough guy syndrome" and him just wanting to dominate the guy that makes a name for being physical, and again, saying "The offense closed it out for us" I think being what he was hoping to say. I don't think Offensive minded guys love saying "The defense is winning us and closing out games" really all I can say.

He's maturing as far as his interactions and how he talks etc this year, but stuff like this he still needs to learn more and get better at

Defensive appreciation tweet dump:

Eagles defense last 2 weeks:

Vs Packers (3rd best EPA offense)
- 10 drives
- 7 points

Vs Lions (5th best EPA offense)
- 13 drives
- 9 points (FG on drive starting at Eagles 28 yard line)

The #Lions went 0-for-6 on 4th down in 2022.

They are 0-for-6 on 4th down tonight.

They're the only team to finish 0-for-6 on 4th down in a game.

Before last night, the Lions had gone 40 straight games scoring double-digit points.

Before last night, Amon-Ra St. Brown's worst single-game catch rate was 33.3%.

He finished with an 16.7% catch rate against the Eagles.

WR Amon-Ra St. Brown was limited to two catches for 42 yards on 12 targets vs the #Eagles, and had zero catches when matched up with Cooper DeJean (10 matchups) and Quinyon Mitchell (9 matchups) and each had 3 targets vs. St. Brown, per @NextGenStats.

Adoree' Jackson had 11 matchups, allowed one catch for 8 yards on 5 targets.

Quinyon Mitchell has allowed just a 41.9% completion percentage in coverage this season, the lowest by any player with 50+ targets in a season since 2018.

Eagles are 26-5 (.838) with DC Vic Fangio.

Jared Goff targeting Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean

3-of-10, 31 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 0.4 passer rating.

Mitchell did not allow a completion.

The #Eagles lead the #NFL in opponent QB completion rate (56.6%)

Jared Goff's 37.8% completion percentage against the Eagles was the worst of his career and the worst by any QB in a game this season (minimum 20 attempts).

Jalyx Hunt:

- 6 pressures (team lead)
- 5!! QB hits (team lead)
- 1 hurry
- 16.7% win rate (team lead)

Those Q stats man....holy crap do we have a real lockdown/borderline best CB sorta of guy on our team.

Its a dream

Collingsworth said something really interesting. He said the Eagles are holding back on Hurts runs and are planning on opening it up later in the season. He obviously was told something in the meetings he had with the team. That to me is the key for the offense. Hurts extends drives with his legs, and it's part of the reason why the Eagles have so many 3 and outs this year, because he's not running as much, probably to save his body since he's been dinged up every year. Hurts running will open up things for everyone else, it will also extend drives to allow guys like AJ and DeVonta more targets, wear defenses out and keep yours fresh. But at this point in time, there really isn't a need for it since they keep winning games. Play it safe, keep Hurts healthy and win ugly until the games begin to really mean something. They've beaten KC, LAR, TB, GB and now DET playing this way. There's no reason to think that they can't win every single game they have on schedule playing this way. One thing we do know, the deeper the Eagles go in the playoffs, the better Hurts gets. That's all that matters. Doesn't need to look pretty. Pretty gets you 0-5 on fourth down.

Lane Johnson out 4-6 weeks Lis Franc sprain.

Not ideal.
We’ve been seeing this all season with Lane, unfortunately. Body has started betraying him, even though the skills and technique are still peaking. Jason Peters reached that point where we accepted he was going to miss a few series or a quarter every week, and a full season was no longer realistic.

I’ve never been more sure of a first round pick in my life. No matter what, we’re going OT in the first round in 2026.

Just have to hope he doesn’t need to be rushed back. If the division is locked up just rest him as long as possible.

This defense is a Super Bowl defense. I’ve seen them. This is *definitely* one of the best in the league without question. The addition of Phillips and the return of Nolan Smith has transformed this into something that’s obviously tough to get yards or score on as is.

Playing at Dallas this week and their offense will be a run test to see where this defense really is but tonight was an absolute masterpiece and I look forward to seeing how they continue to get better and what the plan with Michael Carter is moving forward and really just “how good can it get” if better than this?

Offense, I don’t have time for it right now.

Part of the problem with the run game is Barkley. Bigsby looks great out there and Barkley keeps running into offensive lineman butts.
Barkley has always had a dancing in the backfield issue. Sometimes I feel he’s not patient with his blockers enough. The dancing around is great when it works and defenders lose a footing or miss their tackle, but when he’s not making the defenders confused and missing tackles it looks bad.

Not the first time. Tim McManus reported frustration amongst players on Hurts play when Brian Johnson was here. Everyone said he was just stirring the pot but Tim doesn’t write stuff unless he truly believes his sources on the matter.
I’m too lazy to look it up or search for it, but I remember you saying that Tim McManus was basically full of **** and not to trust anything he says. Shocking that when he says something negative about Jalen, his word is gospel. SHOCKING I TELL YA!

I never said that I was the opposite. That wasn’t me. If anything I said Tim was to be trusted at the same time it was said Nick was overriding the offense which it seems he might be doing again.

McManus/Fowler: Hurts and Sirianni relationship not good
Any time a writer quotes a “source familiar with Jalen Hurts’ thinking” ( that’s a direct quote from Tim McManus) and you subscribe to their opinions it’s a you problem.

Just be honest, it doesn’t matter who’s says anything about Hurts to you. Someone could quote Hurts’ dog and you’d buy in.

See I checked this with other people. I happened to know people at Florida who were close to Brian who said the same thing. People online who have ins with the Eagles and no biased for anything other then just some inside scoop like HonestNfL said Johnson was scapegoated.

Maybe the offense the first two yrs was great because of Shane. Maybe Nick has just been winning do to the talent on the roster not much scheme. When the Owner and GM tell the HC let us get more involved on who is hired as your next Cordinators on Def and Off that’s not a great sign at all. His excuse for last week not including AJ Brown more was laughable. It was telling and saying “we don’t know how to scheme our guys open”.

Last night was also a perfect example of getting too cute or cocky with some dumb decision making again end of game. Not punting with a back up C and RT and he was bailed out by the refs on the last meaningful play that should’ve been if anything OPI.

Look you can believe what you want but I guess by your account no insider or reporter shouldn’t be trusted. It is funny something bad said about Hurts and a whole army comes out swinging on his nuts. I wonder if the Bama fans felt hurt with him introducing himself with a Go Sooners last night? That kind of made me chuckle a bit.

He’s been bailed out twice in two weeks by dumb decisions. The defense and then the refs. Like why are we passing at all up two scores under 3 mins? I get wanting to go for the jugular but his decision making right now might cost this team in a big game eventually

Not knowing how to scheme guys open is bull. I was watching another game, forget which one and the team brought the WR into the backfield so that he would have to be picked up by a LB. The announcers ran the play back showing how great the scheme was. That's scheming guys to get open. Instead the Eagles seem content on letting Brown try to beat corners which he isn't doing at a high enough rate. Jaworski had been adamant that when he watches the tape, AJ is not getting open enough.

I know they wanted him to take less hits aka “don’t try to be the tough guy, slide, don’t fight for extra yards, get rid of the ball before taking unnecessary hit and get out and not try for extra yards.” Type stuff. But Jesus you play too safe and he’s gonna get hurt. You can’t play or coached scared in this physical game. My godfather always told me the story how my grandpop pulled him off the field in hs because he saw him playing scared. Told him if you played afraid to get hurt, you’ll end up seriously hurt.Ive heard that from so many over the yrs. You want to protect your guy sure but limiting his best assets is a recipe for disaster, gets people upset and shows a lack of trust to him to protect himself.

Yep motion helps, lining them up elsewhere or putting certain guys next or opposite them, different routes etc. when they play zone defenses o see no play calls designed as Zone Beaters.

I think at this stage I’m one of the few who don’t mind your posts but it’s getting to be a little challenging for me. Here’s why:

1. Brian Johnson was the scapegoat? Where is this guy today? If he ran such a great offense, why is he not an OC anywhere? Do what Diana does, and read the tea leaves on this one.

2. In your second paragraph you seem unaware on how things work here, how teams operate and how a coach will defend is players and coaches. First we don’t run a Siriani scheme, second it’s more common than not to have upper management assist with searches for coaches and lastly, HC’s wil say very silly things to protect other coaches and players. For examples, see pretty much every successful HC ever.

Totally agree here. Absolutely horrible decision. He listens to the analytics far to much (they suggest go and a conversion rate of 98%) but he needs to read the room there for sure.

Correct, no reporter should be 100% trusted. Having that kind of blind loyalty in 2025, when you know about the clicks is absolutely crazy. Their livelihoods are on the line and if that’s threatened they’ll say anything to stay relevant.

And stop making yourself the victim. If I post 100 good stats for Hurts you don’t like a single one. When I post the critical ones you like them lol. You are Hurts’ Ray Finkle.

Yep. Our current OC is horrific at scheming guys open. He’s bad at scheming period if I’m being honest.

Moving Devonta into the RB slot and faking a handoff to him didn’t work?

Using Calcantara as a lead blocker on counters doesn’t work?

Running AJ on go routes all day instead of crossers doesn’t work?

Completely abandoning RPO looks work?

Going with 6 OL and running a 2-3 person routes doesn’t work?

Nearly every pass completion we have there’s a guy right on the WR’s hip. NO receiver is getting open a lot.

4-2 with a negative point differential and outgained by our opponents in all 6 games this season is not a "good" 4-2. Like 2023, there are times where the numbers below the surface tell the story more accurately than the results.

It's like when a RB has 100 yards and a TD, which seems great, and usually is. But then you see in the box score they had 26 carries and a long of 70. Those 25 carries for 30 total yards and the reasons for it can't be dismissed because one long run made the results look good.

MIN and NYG (at home) after this mini-bye, with the real bye after, is when we have to get right or else that back 9 of games will be ugly.

One of the biggest parallels to ‘23 is very similar to your post. Every average opponent will be looked at as the “get right” or “week they get it to together” etc and before you know it, it’s week 16.

The only thing that matters is how they look when/if they make the playoffs. If they’re all dinged up and winning in spite of the OC, expect and early exit or to blow it down the stretch and not make the playoffs. After that we can enjoy all of the same talking points and click bait trash along the way.

After we replace the OC I expect another deep
playoff run and possible SB in ‘27
This is still how it likely plays out.

My ONLY hope is that the D stays relatively healthy and we have a TB/Baltimore style of defensive run in the playoffs. With this group, it’s possible.

This is where I am at this point.

"We need a historic defense to win it all"

Vic Fangio defenses typically get better in year 2/3 so its entirely possible, looking at some metrics and the additions we have added recently

But man I hate hoping for that lol

My ONLY hope is that the D stays relatively healthy and we have a TB/Baltimore style of defensive run in the playoffs. With this group, it’s possible.
This is where I am at this point.

"We need a historic defense to win it all"

Vic Fangio defenses typically get better in year 2/3 so its entirely possible, looking at some metrics and the additions we have added recently

But man I hate hoping for that lol
Me too. That was over a month ago I said that as well. The signs were there.
