2025 Team Defense & Defense by Committee Thread (1 Viewer)

Jets got me the win week 1 with a dominant 19 point performance in MNF. Today they racked up a point. Not sure if they had injuries or week 1 was a fluke but Pats & Chiefs next 2 weeks don't inspire a lot of confidence that they will put up double digits.

Anyone bailing on Jets or are they a ride or die or bench and hold?
I am bailing.

Other options:
Wash @ Denver
Miami @ NE
I'm actually leaning more towards using Denver D/ST vs. Washington. Tampa D/ST vs. Chicago also an interest point of mine. IF Detroit is available in your leagues, I might take a swing on them. Seattle's down 2 starting tackles for the game in Detroit.

Yep...I'll own it. Not too great in the prognostication:
Denver = 0 pts
Tampa = 19 pts
Detroit = -1 pts

Trust in @ignatiusjreilly though:
Washington = 9 pts
Miami = 11 pts

(Point totals from ESPN standard D/ST Scoring)

Don't trust in me too much. I dropped Miami in one league (for Cleveland, so jury's still out)

I’m bailing on everyone!
In a typical year, there are only a couple defenses that reach "start no matter what and hold them through the bye" status. This year, Dallas is clearly there, Not sure who else, though I'm sure others will emerge over the course of the season

I definitely believe in platooning a DT but this year stinks so far. I can’t help but wonder if dropping the Bills before week one to grab a better matchup with the Vikings was a mistake. Not just for the game but maybe they wouldn’t made a good enough regular starter.

I think early on nobody knows nuthin'. That's why it almost never makes sense to spend up for a DST in the draft.

Over the course of the year we'll get a better idea of which Ds are good and which offenses to stream against

Who we targeting for Week 3?

Baltimore is available in one of my leagues, and the matchup with Indy could be really good if Richardson sits.

Other possibilities:

Jax vs. Houston: Texans line is decimated and they've been giving up lots of sacks
KC vs Chicago: Bears offense seems broken so far, and they've been giving up both sacks and TDs
Went with KC. Aside from the matchup, they may be legit good. The Detroit game looks better in retrospect, and they held Jax to three FGs (although they also got lucky that Jags WRs couldn't keep their toes inbounds). Especially as Jones rounds back into form, they could emerge as one of the league's better Ds.

Went with Was week 1 which worked out well. Dropped them for Den this week and it's probably going to cost me the week. TB was also available. Oh well.

Will Rams continue to see adjustments from Raheem Morris defense?

Was 49ers Offense Too Much For Rams Defense?

Rams Defense could potentially have the opportunity to feast on Bengals QB Jake Browning if Joe Burrow is unable to play in the week 3 MNF game:

Steelers Depot
Adam Schefter on Joe Burrow calf injury on Pat McAfee: "If he came out of that game and he didn't feel great there, you know, I think it's fair to wonder, is he gonna be ready for a week from Monday night against the Rams?" #Steelers #NFL

Think this was the first week where I got a negative score in BOTH the leagues where we still use team defences, and no, it was not the same team in both.

Lot's of strong options on the wire this week. Probably leaning Pats as my first priority with Ravens and Chiefs both out there as well.

Drafted the Saints and they've been fine so far. Roll with them or go after hot hands with nice matchups like Chiefs, Dolphins, or Jags?

Someone in my league took the Saints as the #2 off the board in something like the 9th round. Crazy.

Guess it depends on whether you'd have to drop them or not to bring in another. If I had room to carry them on my bench, I might be tempted to spot start another D here and there, but, if roster space was tight, I'd have no problem keeping the Saints active.

I’m in the same boat. I want to hold the Saints but the Chiefs are still on my WW for the moment and their next two matchups are screaming at me. I can’t carry two DSTs. Such tough decisions to make in short bench leagues.

Edit: I dropped the saints for the chiefs because I couldn’t bear to watch someone else pick them up and I’m trying to win now since I’m 1-1.

Agree and did the same. They have done a great job developing young talent and they are starting to mature. Add back the disruptive force in Jones and they are a top unit.

Was able to pickup the Chiefs on waivers to pair with Washington.

I'm liking the next few weeks on paper:
Week 3: vs Bears -Chiefs
Week 4: at Jets -Chiefs
Week 5: vs Bears - Washington
Week 6: at Falcons - Washington or vs Broncos - Chiefs
Week 7: at Giants - Washington

Bryce Young not practicing today. Seahawks looking like a good choice
I honestly don't know whether it makes them a better or a worse option. Not because I think Dalton is a better QB. But he might be less mistake-prone than a rookie in his third game, and mistakes are what you most want out of the QB facing your defense.

In any event, it was already a good matchup, so I don't know if this changes things much one way or the other. It really comes down to how much weight you put on matchup vs. defensive talent
