2025 Team Defense & Defense by Committee Thread (5 Viewers)

The Browns matchup this past week might have been the single best defensive matchup all year headed into the week and they got me 2 points. I hate defenses.
I started them and lost my matchup by .1.

There’s a lot of things to blame for my loss… but Browns and Daniel Jones on my squad certainly felt like the catalyst.

On bye this week, so trying to look ahead and pick up DSTs for Weeks 16-17 (currently have Cleveland, which faces Bills and Steelers at home)

Here's who is under consideration:
  • NO (NYJ/@Tenn)
  • LAR (@Sea/Atl)
  • Buffalo (@Cle/Philly)
  • NE (@ Bal[/@ NYJ
  • SF (@Ind/Chi, but will probably get picked up this week for the Tenn matchup)

Is Colts D worth picking up for playoffs? Thought I was in good shape with TB but FBG has them lower than Colts week 15 and 17 at least.
Not sure how confident you are in your lineup or your scoring rules. Maybe your league scoring rules favors Colts over TB.

TB has one of the most favorable matchups ROS.
Feel like TB matchups are getting hyped but a bit overrated, this week vs. NO is a good one, but once hit playoffs have Atlanta which is ok, Carolina decent but they've been playing better and Rams put up a stinker vs. them last week, and Miami which is ok but they've been playing better and running more.

Fair points. I think they have favorable matchups and if the FBG is using his league settings they are pointing to which matchups they think are more favorable. TB has been pretty solid against the run. They also have played a pretty tough schedule. This should be the easier part of their schedule even if it is against division rivals.
Bears/Cowboys/Chiefs also on the wire, would you drop depth at other positions to pair one with TB?
I am probably too late for you to decide. That is is a tough choice. It depended on my roster and who I had to let go. I am actually going with the Bears for week 15 Chiefs are not a bad decision either. Dallas I am tempted because they are home but I think maybe Minnesota starts clicking this week not sure what to make of that game.

If NE defense is indeed out there, go grab them for sure

Nah, they got claimed this week (as did SF).

Leaning toward NO. They've been playing much better lately, and they have great matchups, even if Tyrod is back by then.

I can also add the Rams as a second defense. I doubt many people will be picking them up for Det/Seattle, but Championship Week against a Falcons team that seems to be in full "1, 2, 3 ... Cancun!" model is appealing. Of all the ones on my list, they are the best IRL defense

How do people feel about Seattle vs Indy with ? at QB. I have another good option (PHI) but I love how SEA is playing but Indy was not giving up many points to DST this year.

Can't go wrong with either D there. The Raiders OL is terrible can't run block and can't pass block hard not to use PHI. Indy I see being more conservative with Rivers. Seattle defense is legit and I can't see Steichen giving Rivers many passing attempts. Low points allowed for both teams but I guess I expect better sack numbers with PHI D because the Raiders still want to drop back plenty.

In same boat having picked up TB, but being less than impressed with their performance. Secured bye this week, so current plan is to nab NO/NE for access to the Jets O both weeks. Let's hope for a long stretch of Brady Cook!

The 49ers have quietly become the 8th-best scoring defense.
In my home league that I made the playoffs they are last in scoring
Yep. They are dead last in the league in sacks with 16 total. That's really really bad. The Titans have TWICE as many sacks for perspective.
Thanks

I’m thinking of adding/starting them this week. Only D I have is KC
KC's not a bad option. Decent IRL defense, plus Herbert is obviously capable of giving up sacks/INTs behind that O-line

Thanks for this. I had picked them up off waivers but based on this comment, I’m switching gears and going with a hot Miami defense facing an inept Pittsburgh offense.

Yeah I don’t hate them, I like that they’re at home. Idk, they don’t excite me

Deciding between Jacksonville and Pittsburgh. Yards allowed matters a bit and we get 1 point per 25 KR/PR yards.
I feel like Jacksonville with both fields and Taylor questionable is a smash over Pitt.

Could be wrong.

Or could be the Achane owner in me not wanting Pittsburgh to do well. (Currently own Pitt but going after Jacksonville tonight on waivers).

Need your help to beat my wife this week... in the first playoff round in our ESPN family league.

Options available:
SF vs TEN
CHI vs CLE
NYG vs WAS
NO vs CAR
CAR @ NO
MIA @ PIT

TIA!

Your wording is a tad insensitive but I am certain you didn’t mean it that way.
You could have given me help but you've given me so much more.

+10 if you know the movie reference (without looking it up)
no idea!

I'm trying to decide between SF or CHI.

SF actually on a mini D streak with double digits two weeks in a row prior to bye. Not a great D, but maybe they are coming together.

CHI game going to be played in frigid conditions. Bet it's a run fest. Low scoring all around, kill clock. Could be conservative game plan that limits turnovers.

Torn on those two. Both Ds don't put a ton of pressure on the QB.

Thoughts on Miami this week? They have 10 sacks in the last 2 weeks and have been a pretty good fantasy D of late. They get slow, old, gimpy Rodgers next.
I’m tempted by the ‘fins as well but a little spooked by a night game in Pittsburgh with a hi temp of 20

Also have NE at home, but unsure which Bills offense will show up

And added Dallas, who I am leaning towards on the belief that JJMc’s 3 TD game is not repeatable
