2nd tier RBs - most potential? (1 Viewer)

The second tier of running backs after the top 5 includes Gore, Portis, Lynch, Barber, L. Johnson. If you want to "swing for the fences" without regard to risk, which of these RBs do you think has the most upside potential?

For upside, I like Gore. He's proven, there's little competition for carries and he's in Martz's offense. He could flop, but he could also go for 2000 yards from scrimmage and double digit TDs.

Agreed on Gore. I like MB3 too for the same reason.

Gore: will get 325+ touches. runs in a weak division, but poor Oline and a young QB with a lot of options. Defense could have the run game taken away. You believe the Martz hype?

Portis: will also get a ton of touches. runs in a tough division. young QB on a playoff contending team.

Lynch: should get close to 300 carries. receptions is the X factor here. decent oline. young QB with limited options. Defense will keep the run game in tact.

Barber: runs hard behind a great oline with an elite QB with elite options, but RBBC here, Felix Jones could keep him from getting 300 touches. Barber will get GL carries.

L. Johnson: stay away. horrible oline. horrible QB. horrible team.

I have 7th pick. I still don't know what I'm going to do.

you said homerun, so I'd gamble on Lynch. I think he'll see around 300 carries and 40-50 rec. with around 11 TDs to go along with it.

Two years ago Larry Johnson had 21 TDs, and over 2000 total yards. I wouldn't be shocked if he put up similar numbers again. However, last season Shaun Alexander had the most potential of the 2nd tier backs because of the same reason, and we know how that turned out. I also wouldn't be suprised if Johnson completely busted like Alexander did.

So if you want to take the player with the most upside, take Johnson. However, I'd take the safer player in Clinton Portis.

2 year ago, that was still a Vermeil offense. Also, KC is in full re-build mode, look at the age of the roster, low ceiling with LJ. Gore has never had more than 8 TD's so it would be a real breakout, and I'm not buyingI think Barber has the highest ceiling because if he get's 300 touches, he will be top 3. I personally think he is likely to get 250 but you said "upside"

Got stuck with the 7th pick in my league as well and am completely up in the error with this pick. I'm hoping the draft will pan out that someone bites on Brady early (and maybe even Moss), but most likely I'm stuck between Gore, Portis, Lynch, LJ or Barber.

My preference is:

1. Barber

2. Lynch

3. Portis

4. Gore

5. LJ

I think all of the concerns I've seen here in shark pool about splitting carries is getting excessive. Anymore nearly all teams are going with RBBC and very few RB's will be getting bulk of the teams carries. I think about with SF and KC that given the lack of talent Gore and LJ will be getting more carries, but if their OL's are terrible, their YPC and TD's will not be nearly as high....

I would say there are few other 2nd tier RB's - that might be drafted in later rounds -

Thomas Jones, Michael Turner, Earnest Graham are probably some of true 2nd tier RB's that I have my eye on....
