380 draft prospects rated! (1 Viewer)

Just an FYI to all of you...

His final copy didn't get sent out until one week before the draft. He does several rough drafts until he is satisfied with the final product.

Also, he ranked 380 players last year...this year he says he will rank 500+!!!

I'll keep posting any updates I get from him.

He's got his logarithm done to get the rankings. All he's gotta do now is enter in all the players and their various rankings.

He's got a spreadsheet in excel that he's got his math plugged into and all you gotta do is type in a number, 276 for example, and it processes through the logarithm and it will show you the 276th ranked player overall!

Impressive.

:X

is there anyway someone can PM me when this thing comes out?

i'd love to see a copy but don't check the SP often enough.

Yeah. Do it Furley. Then I can bump the thread a few times to make sure you're paying attention. :pics:

WOW!! It is going to take some time to fully digest but this looks awesome.

Also, is there any chance the NFLDraftGuys will be adding past versions (archives) for comparision sake?

Peterson 40 is logged as 4.55? :(
I could only run about 20 yards... I just doubled that to get my time in the 40 yard dash and then the spreadsheet laughed when I put that into the SSR calculator :loco: Otherwise the program looks awesome!!! Great work guys. I look forward to analysing this stuff over the next week. Thanks to everyone who put in all the hard work to get this accomplished

I asked Bob about this. It is a slight discrepency. He said that was the time he got from one of the websites he used to enter all his initial round of numbers. The website he used must have had outdated info. He used this website to get all his numbers prior to the publications coming out. He realizes that number (4.55) is off and is trying to correct it.

Not to nitpick, but it looks like there are several other discrepancies on fourty times.

Chris Houston

Quincy Black

Antwan Barnes to name a few.

Did the scoring methodology change over the past three years? The reason I ask is that the highest rated player from 2005 is Braylon Edwards and he is number 36 if you put all the numbers together from the past three years. I am trying to normalize these to compare players from different years and I want to make sure that I am getting "apples to apples". Warpig or Bloom can you let me know? Thanks!

As far as I know, he takes their numbers from the combine (or the website he uses), then he throws in the rankings from the publications. He comes up with various logarithm's and/or algorithm's that crunches all the numbers. What may throw the numbers off from year to year is that it seems that he comes up with a new formula each year to help better define the "best" athlete/athletes.It's a constant work in progress and he's constantly thinking of things to add. That's really all he does. :banned:

anybody know what A, B, C, D, etc. are?what magazines/publications/websites?
we made a conscious decision to not include that info because the entire set of rankings is included, and we didn't want make any enemies in the draft industry. That being said, Ourlads, Sporting News, and Kiper are among the rankings used...Sorry to have to conceal that, but I know that if (when) we do a draft guide, I would be unhappy if I saw the entire set of rankings I was needing to sell to make a living out there for free.

I think what you'll find is that Braylon's numbers are a function of his peers in his draft. If one year as a whole is up, plugging in someone from a different year doesn't quite fit. That and, as Warpig mentioned, the formula has evolved over the years. Interesting concept, though. I wonder if we can come up with a way to combine lists? The 2005 would have to be left out, I'm afraid, because it has too few sources. Then again, we could apply the logarithm piece to some of the columns on the right... hmmm... maybe.

sure, but why not include a list of the publications involved, u don't have to include which ones are represented by which letter.

Last year's RB rankings:

Adrian Peterson*

Marshawn Lynch*

Michael Bush*

Tony Hunt

Kenny Irons

Antonio Pittman*

Lorenzo Booker

DeShawn Wynn

Brandon Jackson*

Darius Walker*

Kolby Smith

Chris Henry*

Dwayne Wright*

Jason Snelling

Ken Darby

Selvin Young

Ahmad Bradshaw*

Tyrone Moss

Ronnie McGill

Nate IIaoa

Thomas Clayton

Jon Cornish

Garrett Wolfe

Alonzo Coleman

Alvin Banks

Germaine Race

Danny Ware*

Gary Russell*

It'll be interesting to see what Bush, Hunt, and Irons do when they get a chance. Strangely, I don't remember much about Darius Walker from last year's draft guides, but he comes out fairly high here. I have no idea what'll happen in Houston, but he did fine when he got a chance late in the season.
