Crede is on the 15 day DL, and this kid, Fields, will start in his his place.

He's had two starts at 3rd in a row for the ChiSox, and has gone a paltry 0 for 7 with a lot of whiffs.

His minor league numbers, however, say that the kid could become a 25 HR- 20 SB guy.

Crede has never had a strong hold on the position at 3, being the steaking player he is. So, Fields is being given a tryout to take the job during Crede's DL stint.

Not a good showing at all so far, put keep track of this kid and see if he heats up.

*deep sleeper, if he can get it going b4 Crede is healed

Career .259 hitter and never more than 30 dongs? Doesn't sound like a very firm grip.

I will ignore you're comment since you are a cubs fan.

Fields isn't a 20 SB guy...other than the 24 he had last year, he's never had more than 6. That 24 was an anomaly thanks to a manager who was run-friendly. Charlotte is one of the friendliest non-PCL ballparks in the minors so the HR numbers get inflated there.

I think pigskin pimp either knows Josh Fields or has some sort of connection to him and is just throwing out a feeler. Trust me, I am a huge Sox fan...crede's job is not in jeopardy and he has had a strong lock on 3b

isn't Crede a free agent after this year?

Strong lock? The Sox would be shopping Crede right now, but he has little to no value.I say Crede is gone before this year is out.

isn't he also one of the best defensive 3B in the league? he was also pretty clutch in the playoffs when they won the world series.
Don't get me wrong, he can pick it with the best of them(should have won the GG last year) But I don't care who you play for, and .259 career hitter is not going to cut it in the Big leagues........at least not for very long.

CBS SportsLine

3B Josh Fields was called up from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, with the Sox announcing that Joe Crede (back) was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Considering the seriousness of Crede's injury, it doesn't look like it will be a very short stay for Fields, either. "Everyone we call up from Charlotte. they hit .320, .380 (with the Knights)," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "All of a sudden they come here, and whoops. We had this kid a little bit last year. We had him in spring training. I think he'll be fine. Just go out and play the game, don't change anything."

(Updated 06/07/2007).

FANTASY ANALYSIS

Crede was slumping with the bat, though, hitting only .216 with four home runs and 22 RBI. Fields, who got the starting nod, was batting .283 with 10 home runs for the Knights. "I've been hitting the ball well," Fields said. "I turned my season around at Charlotte and definitely felt if they needed me, I could contribute. Hopefully, that's what I can do." He is worth a look in all deeper AL-only Fantasy leagues and certainly all long-term keeper formats.

From me

Just trying to provide a name that is not on a lot of people's radar. Of course, Fields has to prove he can hit ML pitching.

When healthy, he is certainly an elite defender at the MLB level. He's needed back surgery for three years, but has put it off due to contract concerns. I love the guy as a fan of the team, and was assuming he would build off of an all-star caliber season in '06, but he 'aint the same right now. If Fields tears the cover off the ball, the Sox will probably move Fields to the outfield in the hopes that Crede is healthy and ready to hit in '08. The big contract Boras was hoping for is probably off the table at this point, so l see him back in Chicago next season with a chip on his shoulder.

0 for 4 today makes him 0 for 11 in three starts. Ugh. What's with these kids in the ChiSox organization? I can understand the inflated minor league ballpark numbers, but these kids can stroke until they hit the ML team.Wasn't Brian Anderson everyone's sleeper last year before '06 started? We all know what happened with him. You can't say he didn't get his chance to prove himself. This Owens kid can't hit worth a lick in the Bigs, either.

 What a joke.

Their farm system is questionable and they've been rather blah with producing homegrown offensive talent. Brian Anderson rushed, Ryan Sweeney is Sean Burroughs II, and Jerry Owens was a college WR who played baseball in his spare time. He's fast but he's finding out quickly you can't steal 1st base

Does Crede still have a firm grip on 3B?

From Rotoworld:

Joe Crede has decided to undergo back surgery that will likely cost him the rest of the season.

Crede probably won't be officially ruled out for the year after the procedure, but it's hard to see him returning prior to September and even a comeback for the final three or four weeks of the season seems like a long shot. Josh Fields could spend the rest of the season as the White Sox's regular third baseman. Jun. 12 - 12:19 am et

Shouldn't he have done this say, middle of last year?

posting this just proves how little you know. If Crede is healthy he has a firm grip on it. You come here talking about Josh Fields and it says he COULD spend the rest of their season as the sox 3b. While i think he will, just the fact that there is a chance he doesnt shows how far off you were...

oh, and you're "shouldnt he of done this say, middle of last year" is somthing that anyone is a cubs fan would never say with how they could be ridiculed about injuries they discover late with their pitchers. Though with what im guessing your baseball iq is you didnt know that.

HE WILL BE GONE NEXT YEAR.....how is that for a firm grip.

He's going to be to expensive and to fragile.

Deal with it.

again, showing how really slow you are. Read the original post which I responded to. he said he NEVER (see this word to the left of this..ill highlight again NEVER) had a firm grip on it. To which i laughed at since he said never. its quite obvious if someone is hurt and cant play the position someone else has to play it. Come on Wrigley, are you really this dumb??

HE NEVER DID HAVE A FIRM GRIP ON 3BThere was talk of moving Fields to the OF, but he never went. Crede has been warming up 3B for Fields for the past 3 years.
