3rd Shark Pool Mock Draft (1 Viewer)

KC is looking to move up in the second round from #55 if anyone would like to possibly trade down

I don't like the Rams pick in the 2nd. They already have Atogwe and Butler at safety.Bigger needs are WR and MLB. Heyward-Bey or Laurinaitis are ideal for 2.3 if they're there for the Rams and I would do backflips if they got either one there.
I don't like Laurinaitis and DHB is a project that I'm not wanting to try. The Rams want football players, tough football players and I think Delmas fits that mold perfectly. Remember that Atogwa was franchised last year and is only under contract for one year with the Rams. There are plenty of good lb's in this draft and since all those wr's fell to the second I think we can get some good value in the third or fourth round.Plus, it never hurts to have depth in the secondary.
I dont like Laurinitis that much either but he's worth a second just in the merchandise and hype he will get from Ohio State fans.

1:24 - The Atlanta Falcons select Evander "Ziggy" Hood; DT (Missouri)

The Falcons commence their defensive 'replenishment' process by getting a high effort good all-around prospect in Hood. The Falcons depth chart at DT consists of:

Jonathan Babineaux (solid)

Trey Lewis (showed well as a rookie in 2007, but coming off two torn ACL's to same knee)

Kindal Moorehead (journeyman veteran)

...so the need for DT preempts other areas of the defense like LB, CB or S.
Like this pick, with Cushing off the board early. Don't like the gonzo trade tho.
Rationale behind the Gonzo trade:1) Falcons know that they would be lucky to execute the type of quick turnaround on defense that they did on offense one off-season ago. That transformation was headlined by ProBowl to All-Pro performances by their two key off-season acquisitions in Matt Ryan and Michael Turner. Those talents are not available to the Falcons this go round.

2) As such, their defense is going to require at least another off-season of personnel acquisition.

3) Gonzalez is a 2-3 year acquisition admittedly, but he helps the Falcons dramatically in one area on offense they had difficulty with (particularly Ryan) in 2008 - red zone efficiency. He's a solid weapon outside the 20 as well.

4) If the defense isn't going to show dramatic improvement in 2009, then via the Gonzalez acquisition, the hope is that he can add 3-6 PPG on offense either via direct contribution or defensive attention to counteract any defensive shortcomings they have this year.

As for Mularkey's histroical under use of the TE, he's never had a QB who could leverage all the weapons he has at his disposal like Ryan.

The Houston Texans have traded their 2009 Picks 2.14 and 2009 3.13

To the KC Chiefs for their 2009 Picks 2.23 and 2009 3.03

Thanks everyone, especially Buffaloes for helping out with a 5 minute extension.

Lexus and the Texans.

Stinkin Ref is aware that he is on the clock, and I believe he has his selection ready to go very shortly.

KANSAS CITY SELECTS LAWRENCE SIDBURY DE RICHMOND

it isn't even fair to say that KC had a pass rush last year after setting an NFL record with the fewest sacks......Sidbury is flying up the charts and after adding Curry to this defense, it was nice to get one of the best speed pass rushers out there....obviously I am going in the direction of shoring up this defense......Curry and Richmond as well as Vrabel and Thomas have now helped add some depth to this defensive squad....would like to address one more defensive position within the next two picks....

I may be as big of a KC fan that there is and the idea of trading Gonzo is not fun, however it is time and being able to eventually get a semi high second rounder for him (2.14) and only having to move down 10 slots in the third I think was an okay deal to help shore up this defense.....hopefully Cottam is ready to step in at TE....

2.15 Jamon Meredith OT/G South Carolina

The Patriots have O-Line needs after this year with Neal constantly battling shoulder injuries and pending contracts with Mankins and Kaczur. Mankins will likely be signed but the book is out on Kaczur. They do have some depth, hopefully Meredith will add depth with greater upside.

2.16 Denver selects Coye Francies, CB San Jose State

Could have gone a number of ways here but went with a physical corner who can come in and play the nickel position if need be. Denver is thin at corner with Josh Bell and Jack Williams behind Champ Bailey and Andre Goodman.

Denver picks up to this point:

1.12 Tyson Jackson, DE LSU

1.18 Connor Barwin, DE/OLB Cincinnati

2.16 Coye Francies, CB San Jose State

2.17 - Brian Robiskie - WR, OSU

The Bears were praying for one of the top receivers to fall, and luckily, Robiskie is here for us at 49th overall. He actually might be the most well-suited for what the Bears need, which is a big, tall, reasonably fast possession receiver.

Robiskie was the last receiver we would have considered drafting at this spot. Otherwise, we would have looked at a FS or looked to trade down. As it stands, we feel very lucky to have landed Robiskie.

nice pickI would interested in how high Robiskie would go in rookie drafts if he landed with Cutler. I think he would probably be the third or fourth wr off the board in this scenario.

WU_BANGER, look at your messages before you make a pick please

I like the Robiskie pick. I was hoping he'd fall to us at 2.20.

I will make my pick at some point later tonight - it may be really late, but I will get it done if you guys get caught up to me.

To facilitate any trades:

In case somoneone wants to move up to move up to the 2.20 spot from picks 53-67, give the Seahawks even or better value per the chart, including the pick between 53-67 - with next year's picks being discounted 1 round. You can post a deal, and you may assume I will accept the deal you post. Only one person can do this, obviously.

The Houston Texans will take Stevegamer up on the offer to move up to the Seattle Seahawks 2.20 draft slot (52nd overall in 2009).The Texans will give the 3.03 selection (67th overall in 2009) obtained via an earlier trade with the KC Chiefs, and a 2010 3rd round selection (actual pick TBD after the 2009 season). As this is the first response posted, I presume that per your original posting this is a done deal, and as such will notify the Draft Moderator to make the necessary adjustment in selection assignments.Thank you, and GL in your leagues this year - Lexus.

Obviously it'd depend on where the other guys fall, but I see it looking something like this:1. Crabtree, regardless of team

2. Maclin, regardless of team

3. Nicks, Miami/NYG

4. Robiskie, Bears

5. Britt, Miami/NYG

lexus/stevegamer...After doing the math, this appears to fall a few points shy of "equal trade value" according to the chart provided, so I will wait to make the change in the OP once I hear from stevegamer in this thread or via PM on this trade.

I might take Robiskie over Nicks in this situation, IMO they're roughly equal to start with.

Cleveland Browns select :

LeSean McCoy , RB PITT

I viewed the trade offers but landing a playmaker like McCoy at a postion of need is huge at this point in the draft.

McCoy gives the Browns a nice compiliment to J Lewis.... and should be able to handle the load when Lewis is done soon.

2009 Browns Draft Recap

1.5. Cleveland -Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech

1.26. Cleveland -Everette Brown, DE/OLB Florida State

2.4-36 Cleveland -Darius Butler, CB Connecticut

2.18-50 Cleveland - LeSean McCoy, RB Pittsburgh

pm sent to banker guy

You got 4 guys that I see have 1st round talent and all of them were a major need for the Browns. In my opinion you have had the best draft so far.

Butler was a gift. I almost took him with the 2.02

Good job

Highway robbery.

Anxiously awaiting Banker's pick!

Note on KC - Tony G for Atlanta's 2nd has been a big rumor. However, I'm not sure if I like the DE selection over Merideth or one of the WR's although you've certainly upgraded the defense. Also, if they know they've got the deal for Tony G as I mentioned before, they would consider Crabtree at #3 and then take a speed rusher OLB or DE with the pick they got from Tony G. Just my IMO. That said, they need OL badly and LB prospects can be had later behind their veteran stop-gaps so again I'm still not a fan of the Curry to KC train.

Damn, the Browns need you in the Front Office, that is an incredible draft thus far.

Thanks for the kind words fellas..!!!!

Things really fell into place from the Browns and their picks.

Looking back if I did not trade Edwards the draft would probably look like this..

RD 1 - Okapro (who I am not high on)

RD 2 - DHB (Safety net when they lose Edwards, replaces Stallworth)

RD 2 - Still probably McCoy.

trading Edwards really allowed the Browns to make the selections that helped fill the biggest need.

Seahawks accept the trade with Texans. We get 2009 3.03 & a 2010 3rd for 2009 2.20.

The Cowboys take Sean Smith -Utah.

I really would have taken Duke Robinson, however I did that in the last mock. So, I want to try a different approach to see how it plays out.

In the case of Sean Smith the Cowboys love his size/speed, his natural ball skills and big play ability. We take him as our likely back up FS. However, his ability to also play CB is an attractive quality which was a large factor in taking him here. Other safeties (Who wll remain nameless were considered with this pick).

Cowboys are looking to trade up.

We are willing to give up picks or will listen to offers on Tashard Choice/Greg Ellis/Bobby Carpenter.

PM sent to stevegamer

 Nice pick, this was one of the main guys on my radar.

:backtothedrawingboard:

The Steelers are willing to wheel and deal at 2.32 (#64 overall); send offers to move up/down to me. I am considering both.

I seriously considered him at my pick, too.

2.21 The Eagles select Patrick Chung S Oregon

Well, sacrifices had to be made when Maclin unexpectedly fell into our laps in the 1st. All the 1st tier RB's (IMO, anyway) were scooped up ahead of us, so instead of reaching, we took the best player in a 'need' position on the board.

In many ways Chung reminds me of the player he'll be replacing, Brian Dawkins. He hits hard, he's a good tackler, good blitzer and ferocious competitor. Also, as team captain, he obviously impressed the coaching staff with his leadership skills. All-in-all, he seems a fine replacement for Dawk.

I had him picked for Denver before I change my mind and went with Francies.

I usually value CB's much higher than S, but Chung was too good a value to leave out there. The Eagles also have a bigger need at S.

He is totally a fit for the Eagles, I could see this going down.

2.22 The Minnesota Vikings Select: Josh Freeman - QB Kansas State

I highly doubt Freeman would fall this far and there is just too much value not to take him at this position. I also doubt the Vikings would draft him here, but would go with a certain O-lineman.

That being said Josh Freeman's rights are available.
