40 mph wind gusts at Giants Stadium (1 Viewer)

NY Post article

From the blogger:

Wind gusts are expected to be as high as 40 miles an hour at Giants stadium on Sunday as the Giants get ready to face the Tampa Bay Bucs. Eli Manning said yesterday, that he has never played in a game having to deal with harsh wind conditions. "I haven't had a bad wind game, never a brutal wind game," Manning said. "You can't change the way you throw, you can't change your fundamentals or the way you grip it or throw it, you've just got to be confident in your throws and understand some deep stuff, and other things, you've got to be careful throwing."
Eli's lack of experience playing in windy conditions leads me to conclude that Giants (and Bucs) passing games should be downgraded this week. I personally have a pretty good WR to start in place of Burress, but it is still going to be a tough decision and I can imagine lots of FF teams that are counting on the Giants passing game are going to have some tough decisions to make as well. I remember the Bears/49'ers game last year, that was crazy wind conditions- Vasher's 108 yard FG return to ice the game-

If this forecast holds up, I would guess we upgrade the defense and running games, downgrade passing and kicking- I'm interested in what the rest of you think, and what you're going to do.

I was out at the track last night, and ... I gotta tell ya, the wind is a totally different animal out there in the Meadowlands complex. For those of you familiar with the area, it's almost as if once you get onto route 3/495, heading for the Lincoln Tunnel, the gusts diminish somewhat.

Was hanging out down by the rail (all the better to smoke), and the wind was a-whippin' up kinda fierce. It's miserable here in the City today ... rain and wind, but surprisingly warm. Downright balmy. However, the forecast looks pretty unforgiving as far as gametime is concerned ... then factor in the "Meadowlands" variable, and it could be absolutely debilitating for the passing/kicking games.

Thanks for the news... weather.com is calling for 25mph winds from the west at gametime. The stadium is on a NW-SE bias so they'll be some good crosswinds.

Jay Feely... meet the bench :)

Maybe good conditions to see more from Jacobs?
Tiki will blow away if he runs? :o
:lmao: Yeah, I would think Tiki's carries would go up too. I was thinking maybe the power running attack may get more of the call in a grind it out game, with conditions as discussed. But Tiki can do it all, so he'll clearly be the man still. I guess the RB pie may be bigger, so Jacobs' slice should be bigger too.

Thanks for the report Joe. This certainly can't be good for Gradkowski either, I've got Galloway. I'm in WR bye week hell. My other options are Matt Jones (I don't think he'll go this weekend) or Nate Washington vs OAK. I am going to monitor weather conditions, if they improve I'll probably stick with Galloway.

Just in case you didn't know half the games being played this week are going to be dealing with high winds.Check your games!!

Good info, thanks. That Bear- 49'ers game last year had the wind pretty much in your face or back depending on quarter- a crosswind is going to be a more consistent impediment for both teams.

Actually, since most games will have big wind this weekend, I'd say Eli's probably the best start around. He's got big, physical receivers who will go up and track and get the ball. I'd certainly rather have him than many.

Burress to the bench. Have to love mother nature for the added variable. This should be the first game of the season where weather is definitely a factor

:goodposting: Thanks. Cincy:Wind - SW at 13 MPHPhilly:Wind - WSW at 22 MPHChicago:Wind - SW at 13 MPHMeadowlands:Wind - W at 22 MPHCleveland: Wind - WSW at 22 MPHKC:Wind - SSW at 11 MPHThe rest 10 mph or lower. Not much chance of precipitation for any of the games- 10% or less. So the highest winds will affect Philly/Jax, NYG/Bucs, Cle/NYJ.Going with Colston in the dome vs. Balt. D.

And he can throw it to Tiki. Shorter throws and RAC yards.Since I'm starting Rhonde a few more defensive TD's would be nice.

It was Pickett vs. Orton, but..Bears/49ers game book, Oct 13, 2005

Wind: W 26, gusting to 47 mph

310 total rushing yards in the game, 95 total passing yards - Pickett 1 for 13, 28 yards :lmao:

4 of 6 FGs made in the game, only one TD on offense, other TD was Vasher's return.

ETA: AP had a 7 yd. TD run

Yeah as someone said the whole Northeast will be gett hammered by rain and wind. The games where the wind will play a big factor are. Jax at Philly 1pm 20-40+ winds according to weather.com, Tampa at NYG 1pm 20-40+ as someone reported on here, NYJ at Cleveland 1pm 25-35mph with occassional 40+mph from weather.com. I would downgrade some of the QB's playing in these games and receivers, tight ends probably stay the same and may see an improvent. Kickers should see a downgrade here. Defenses should see an increase as well as running backs

Maybe it was a crosswind, I remember they showed a highlight clip on Sportscenter, Gould made a kick that took a right turn and ended up in the sideline stands around the 5 yard line. It was extremely wide right.

Browns/Jets is a 4:00 game. Probably similar conditions, though.

Seriously, it's not that bad. It won't affect short passes and it shouldn't bother either team in the redzone.

Eli might not be able to start off the game with a 50 yard bomb, but to bench Burress is foolish. I've been to a ton of Giants game in my life and I've seen teams throw in worse conditions than what they are calling for tomorrow.

I wouldn't start either kicker, however.

I think Tiki's catchs would also go up, as the focus becomes on the short passing game.

If the weather that's here today is in the Meadowlands tomorrow (which is often the case), I wouldn't want to be counting on the passing game. It's been very windy and very wet all day here.

alright I have feely/Akers as Kickers ,any insight here on who to play, you guys are scaring me
I don't know what the wind will be like in Philly, or the effects in that stadium. But it's difficult to kick when the wind is blowing around 15MPH in the Meadowlands. It could be an adventure for Feely tomorrow.

Ever have one of those "perfect storm" seasons? (Excuse the pun) In my main league, I'm 6-1. It seems like every week, my opponent has his 1st and 2nd round picks on a bye. Every week, the team I play has its lowest scoring effort of the season. Not that it matters, honestly..... I lead the league in points.

And now this news. I am playing against Gradkowski -AND- Shockey -AND- Burress tomorrow!

C'mon wind!!! :banned:

I'm surprised no one mentioned this. There's no reason to really downgrade anyone if the wind is blowing from one endzone to the other. They'll still be able to make some throws, and they'll definately go for long FGs with the wind at their back.If it's a crosswind, then they're in trouble.

Every time I have taken someone out of the lineup based on bad weather conditions, that person still posted good stats. I realize that the weather can in fact have the occasional adverse impact, but how much should be be basing our decisions on the weather forecast, especially when we're not talking about snow, sleet, or ice?

The winds at Giants stadium at 20mph(not 40) due to the shape of the stadium are like a tornado. The winds enter from the north east side where the end zone is that has Jimmy Hoffa buried.and then goes south to 50 yard line seats and crosses mid field to the other side 50 yard line seats..like a complete cycle.Only the west end zone feels less wind.

Be at game bringing a kite to fly that states..FBG's#1 in red white and blue colors. :banned:

Giants stadium always has funky swirly winds. I live 5 hours away but it was windy yesterday and this morning. This afternoon+evening it's typical. Can some NY/NJ guy throw an update in here tomorrow please?

Well this makes my decision to go with Carney in a Dome over Feely.

But Burress in the wind or Reggie Brown in the wind.................????

Not only wondering if you downgrade Manning & company, but is this a rather big upgrade for the Buc's D/ST?? They have been looking good as of late -- at home anyway...

Gee, I don't know. Which one do you think is more likely to be able to adjust to the ball's movement and take the ball away from a corner?

I know its 15+ hours until kickoff, but I was just out right near the Meadowlands (literally right next to it) and holy cow was the wind gusting! Again, who knows what this means tomorrow but it was crazy strong wind tonight.

Fewer passes would mean more runs and more runs for the Bucs means Cadillac should be a good bet for 20+ carries and the Bucs have never lost when Cadillac gets 20 or more carries in a game.

Just a little something else to chew on.

Wow man! Super awesome info!! Hey, I bet Gruden scripts his offense tomorrow JUST to that trend! Yep, the Bucs first 20 plays will be handoffs to Caddy, thereby insuring the win!Hey, here's something else to chew on ... the Bucs have NEVER lost a game after leading through 4 quarters ...

Somehow this :whoosh: seems quite appropriate after reading your post.

Ya know, somehow I'm not surprised .... wow.

Wind affects two things - long kicks and long passes.

Downgrade Plax, uptick possession recievers (Toomer, Shockey).

Throw the kickers at the wall (the wind will blow them out the window).

And you continue to miss the point. Oh well, keep trying to be clever. Maybe that'll prove to be something you're good at.Good luck with that.

Know that perfect storm feeling VERY well... unfortunately, I'm the double-wide. 1-6, lost four of those weeks by 9 points or less, and leaving Feeley in because I don't wanna cough up another $1 to put in Carney. :bag:
