My reaction

For those who did not see it...New Orleans got the ball deep in their own territory, down 31-21, :50 left, no timeouts. They continue to compete, throw it down to the SF 35 yd line largely due to a big run after the catch by Sproles. They get to the SF 35 with a handful of seconds and they decide to just take a knee...

There was an outside shot at a big play for a TD and a quick onside kick at that point. With 4 seconds left you obviously can't do that. Saints WR had been getting lit up all afternoon, no reason to push it.

This. With 4 seconds left, there's no need to risk an injury when you're down by 10. I actually thought it was an honorable, classy thing way to end the game.
